Abstract

The relevance of munāsabah—the study of thematic and structural coherence between Qur’anic verses and chapters—has long been a subject of scholarly debate. While some classical exegetes regard it as a foundational approach in unlocking the Ilahi unity of the Qur’an, others question its significance due to the diverse contexts of revelation. This study aims to explore the theoretical foundations of munāsabah and examine its pedagogical relevance in contemporary Qur’anic exegesis. Employing a qualitative library research method and a descriptive-analytical approach, this study critically engages with classical works, particularly Mafātīḥ al-Ghayb by Fakhruddin al-Rāzī and Naẓm al-Durar by Al-Biqāʿī. The findings reveal that munāsabah plays a pivotal role in demonstrating the Qur’an’s thematic coherence, deepening spiritual insight, and enhancing the methodological rigor of tafsir education. It is concluded that munāsabah is not merely a stylistic or rhetorical device but a vital exegetical framework that enriches both the cognitive and affective dimensions of learning the Qur’an. This research contributes to contemporary Qur’anic studies by reaffirming munāsabah as an integrative and indispensable interpretive tool in the teaching and understanding of the Qur’an.

Abstract

The family is the basic unit of society in Islam, playing a strategic role in shaping a generation of believers and the pious. Modern challenges such as shifting values, individualism, and globalization demand a deep understanding of the Qur'anic guidance regarding the ideal family. This study explores the stories of the families of Imran and Ibrahim, which emphasize the values of monotheism, spiritual education, sacrifice, and exemplary behavior in raising children. Referring to the exegeses of al-Manar and al-Munir, these Qur'anic teachings are analyzed to build a harmonious and pious family capable of facing the challenges of the contemporary era. This study aims to describe the concept of the ideal family in the Qur'an through the stories of the families of Imran and Ibrahim based on the exegeses of al-Manar and al-Munir. The research employs a qualitative method with a semiotic approach. Primary data consists of Qur'anic verses, based on the interpretations of al-Manar and al-Munir. Data collection techniques include literature study and document analysis. The results of this study found that the Qur'an depicts the families of Imran and Ibrahim as ideal models with values of monotheism, education, and sacrifice. The interpretation of al-Manar highlights the spiritual education of the family of Imran, while al-Munir emphasizes the steadfastness of faith and obedience in the family of Ibrahim through the story of the sacrifice of Ismail.

Abstract

Inner peace is a universal aspiration, enabling individuals to navigate life with a calm and serene heart. One of the key factors influencing a person’s sense of peace or anxiety is the quality of their faith. To enhance faith, one needs a heart and mind that are constantly focused on Allah SWT, humbling oneself before Him—what is commonly referred to as solemnity (khushu’). This study aims to explore the concept of solemnity in the Qur’an using descriptive and thematic methods. The findings reveal that the meaning of solemnity in the Qur’an encompasses several aspects, including submission, lowering one’s voice and heart, as well as focus and obedience in performing good deeds. The research also identifies a connection between solemnity and spiritual intelligence, particularly through the concept of the God Spot, introduced by Ary Ginanjar in Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ). The God Spot refers to the point of awareness within individuals that fosters their spiritual nature and innate urge to seek God. Applying the God Spot concept in daily life can help individuals experience God’s real presence, become a source of inner peace, and strengthen their spiritual values. This research contributes to the understanding of how solemnity can enhance one’s faith quality and inner calm through a deeper spiritual approach.

Abstract

The study of the Qur'an's verses that discuss plants reveals not only the beauty of God's creation but also contains profound theological, aesthetic, and spiritual messages. This article analyzes these verses through the approach of balaghah science, specifically ma'ānī and bayan, and enriches their inner meaning with a Sufi perspective. Ma'ānī science is used to examine the structure and style of language that emphasizes certain meanings, while bayan science reveals the meaning of figures of speech such as tashbīh, isti'ārah, and kināyah. And the Sufi approach views plants as symbols of tajallī Allah, the human spiritual journey, and a means of contemplation towards ma'rifatullāh. The process of plant growth is interpreted as an allegory of the development of faith, love, and good deeds that must be cultivated through spiritual training. The research findings demonstrate that plants in the Quran are not merely biological objects, but rather a medium of divine communication that conveys the values of monotheism, beauty, and ecological awareness. Thus, this multidisciplinary interpretation presents a holistic and transformative understanding of the Quran.

Abstract

This article examines how the Ministry of Religious Affairs, through the Al-Qur'an and its Tafsir – Enhanced Edition (AQT-EDS), interprets QS. al-Nisā' verse 19, particularly in emphasizing the principle of mu'āsyarah bi al-ma'rūf as the basis for equality in relations between men and women. This research is qualitative in nature with a literature study method as the data collection technique. The analysis used is Julia Kristeva's intertextuality theory with the QPXT model: Q refers to direct quotations, P to meaning extraction, X to differences in emphasis, and T to meaning transformation. The results show that the P and X patterns are dominant in the interpretation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. AQT-EDS absorbs many classical meanings regarding the prohibition of 'adl and the restoration of women's rights, but provides a new emphasis on the ethical-procedural dimension by choosing diction that is communicative and popular for the wider community. Thus, this interpretation does not only repeat turāṯ, but also emphasizes the boundaries of behavior that are in line with the values of ma'rūf. This study also noted the absence of a T-pattern, thus the normative direction remains consistent with mainstream interpretations without significant changes in meaning. QS. al-Nisā': 19 in the AQT-EDS is positioned as a normative and ethical basis for the Ministry of Religious Affairs' gender equality policies, including premarital education, gender mainstreaming programs, and anti-violence cultural campaigns in domestic relationships and broader social interactions.

Abstract

This article attempts to examine the epistemological dimension of a local interpretation by a Nusantara scholar, namely Tafsir Tajul Muslimin Min al-Kalam al-Rabb al-'Alamiin by Misbah Mustafa. Misbah Mustafa's interpretation in his work is strongly influenced by the scientific background and socio-political dynamics of Javanese Islamic society at that time. This study employs a historical-philosophical approach, utilising a qualitative research method that involves descriptive analysis. The data used are derived from literature studies, particularly those related to the interpretation of Tajul Muslimin and other relevant literature that support this research. The results of this study are that Misbah Mustafa's interpretation in his work is influenced by at least two factors: internal factors, such as the scientific background of traditional Islamic boarding schools that tend towards socio-community studies, and external factors, namely the cultural and political situation at the time of writing. Regarding the epistemological structure of Tajul Muslimin's interpretation, in terms of the sources of interpretation used, it is classified as tafsir bi al-ra'yi al-Mahmud or also called burhani epistemology. Meanwhile, the interpretive method used by Misbah is generally classified as at-tahlili (analysis), and specifically, the author identified at least 10 distinct steps employed by Misbah in his interpretation. Then, regarding the validity of Misbah Mustafa's interpretation in his interpretation, the author concluded that his interpretation contains elements of three theories of truth in philosophy: coherence, correspondence, and pragmatism.

Abstract

This article examines M. Quraish Shihab's interpretation of Quranic verses related to women's reproductive health, specifically the themes of menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding, in his Tafsir al-Misbah. These four themes were chosen because they represent important phases in the female reproductive cycle that have direct implications for physical, psychological, and social health. Using a thematic interpretation analysis approach, this study finds that Quraish Shihab emphasizes the balance between the normative values of the Quran and the practical needs of modern life. On the theme of menstruation, he emphasizes the wisdom of sharia that maintains women's hygiene and health. In discussing pregnancy and childbirth, Quraish highlights the difficult struggles of a mother as a form of respect for women's roles. Meanwhile, on the theme of breastfeeding, he emphasizes the importance of children's rights as well as the moral obligation of fathers and the community to provide support. The relevance of Quraish Shihab's interpretation shows that the Quran pays significant attention to women's reproductive health issues, not only within a biological framework but also within ethical, social, and family contexts. This article contributes to demonstrating how contemporary interpretations can serve as a reference in formulating discourse on women's reproductive health and justice in the modern era.

Abstract

The tahlili method of interpretation books is characterized by its complex and comprehensive discussion. This makes it a method rich in meaning and considered to possess highly accurate information. This study aims to determine and explore the urgency, special characteristics, and existence of the tahlili method in the modern era, which is both practical and contextual. This study uses a qualitative approach oriented towards theoretical studies. In terms of type, this research is classified as a library study, with data sources drawn from various published literature, both in print and digital media, that are relevant to the research subtheme discussed. The results of this study indicate that the tahlili method faces serious challenges in the modern contemporary era. However, the tahlili method has not lost its existence. Instead, this method continues to adapt by integrating new, more contextual approaches without abandoning its basic principles. Modern exegetical works such as Wahbah az-Zuhaili's al-Munir are concrete evidence that tahlili remains vital as a methodological foundation for text-oriented interpretation while also being open to modern social contexts. Thus, the tahlili method can be seen as an Islamic intellectual heritage that is not only historically valuable but also relevant in responding to the challenges of the times.
