Abstract

This article examines the emergence of radicalism in Indonesia and the various measures taken to prevent and address it. Radicalism has become an issue that requires serious attention because its impact extends beyond religious understanding and can affect social life more broadly. Such views have the potential to cause divisions within families, undermine social cohesion, shape individual perspectives, and even threaten the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). One case that has attracted particular attention is Al-Qiyadah Al-Islamiyah. The development of this group occurred through several stages, beginning with the dissemination of its teachings privately and later expanding into open propagation. Over time, hostility toward groups outside their community also emerged, along with the idea of establishing their own government. In response to this issue, Muslim scholars, particularly the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia/MUI), have sought to address it through religious studies, the issuance of religious edicts (fatwas), and various preventive measures. These efforts have required considerable time, energy, intellectual resources, and other forms of support. The government has also paid attention to the issue by supporting the religious measures undertaken by the MUI through the fatwas it has issued.
