Abstract

This research is motivated by the still low level of students' understanding and mastery of the phonetic phenomenon of isymam in the recitation (qiraat) of Imam ‘Asim, particularly in terms of pronunciation. Isymam is one of the rare forms of recitation (qiraat gharīb) that holds significance in the science of Qur’anic recitation and possesses distinct phonetic characteristics that are not represented in writing but are only found in oral practice. The aim of this study is to analyze students’ ability to pronounce isymam in the recitation of Imam ‘Asim, as well as to examine the factors causing pronunciation errors. This is a field study using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and oral tests of Qur’anic reading. The data analysis technique employed is a descriptive-evaluative method, and the results are presented narratively. The findings show that a small number of students still struggle to accurately demonstrate the pronunciation of isymam, mainly because it requires coordination between producing the dammah vowel sound and a simultaneous but voiceless lip movement. Contributing factors to the mispronunciation include limited practice-based qiraat learning in madrasahs, the lack of phonetic Qur’an training, and the absence of dedicated programs for the rare recitations of Imam ‘Asim. Therefore, a phonetic-based approach and intensive training are needed to enhance students' proficiency in reading the Qur’an more fluently in accordance with authentic qiraat rules.

Abstract

The integration of general knowledge and religion in modern Islamic education is a crucial issue in the era of globalization and technological advancement. The main problem raised is the dichotomy between religious knowledge and general knowledge, which hinders the development of holistic Islamic education. The aim of this research is to explore the challenges and opportunities in the integration process, with a focus on philosophical, theological and practical approaches. The research method used is a literature review with qualitative analysis of relevant literature. The research results show that the integration of general knowledge and religion can increase the relevance of Islamic education to the needs of our time, although structural and paradigmatic challenges still constitute the main obstacles. Support from various parties is the key to successfully implementing this integration.

Abstract

Epistemology of moderate Qur’anic interpretation through the integration of riwāyah, ra’yi, and isyārī approaches and its implications for contemporary Islamic education. The study is motivated by the dynamic development of Qur’anic exegesis which, in modern contexts, faces tendencies toward interpretive extremism, either in rigid textual literalism or overly subjective interpretations that risk undermining the authority of the Qur’anic text. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes classical and contemporary tafsīr works as well as relevant literature on Islamic education. The findings reveal that riwāyah emphasizes textual authority and transmission, ra’yi highlights rational reasoning and contextual ijtihād, while isyārī enriches the spiritual and ethical dimensions of interpretation. The integration of these three approaches forms a balanced epistemology of moderate tafsīr that harmonizes text, reason, and spirituality. In the context of contemporary Islamic education, this epistemological framework contributes to a shift in educational goals from mere knowledge transmission toward methodological awareness, curriculum development based on tafsīr epistemology, dialogical learning methods, and the cultivation of moderate, tolerant, and inclusive religious attitudes. This study offers a conceptual contribution to the development of Islamic education that remains faithful to Islamic scholarly tradition while addressing contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of low memorization achievement among the students of Ma’had ‘Aly PPTQ Ibnu Abbas Klaten, where most of them have not reached the target of memorizing five juz each semester. Challenges such as lack of focus, low motivation, weak muraja’ah systems, and discomfort during memorization submission also affect the quality of their memorization. These conditions encouraged the institution to implement the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method as a strategy to improve the students’ memorization progress and quality. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method in memorizing the Qur’an at Ma’had ‘Aly PPTQ Ibnu Abbas Klaten and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its application. This research also aims to determine the extent to which the KLT method contributes to improving the students’ Qur’an memorization quality. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Primary data were obtained from the Head of Ma’had ‘Aly, tahfidz instructors, and students participating in the KLT program. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Source triangulation was used to ensure data validity. The findings show that the KLT (Kejar Lancar Tahfidz) method is implemented through stages such as target setting, intensive tahfidz schedules, supervision by muhafidzah, memorization evaluation programs, and a system for mapping student progress. This method has proven effective in improving memorization quality, increasing motivation, and strengthening the discipline of muraja’ah among the students. Supporting factors include institutional commitment, intensive mentoring, and the supportive environment of the pesantren. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include students’ psychological conditions, time management challenges, and differences in individual memorization abilities. Based on the research results, it is recommended that the KLT program continue to be developed by increasing the variety of memorization methods, strengthening students’ time management, and optimizing motivational guidance. The institution is also advised to enhance its periodic evaluation system and provide additional support for students with slower memorization abilities. Future research may focus on examining the relationship between the KLT method and the psychological aspects of Qur’an memorizers.

Abstract

Research on the Qur'an and Hadith is the primary foundation for the development of Islamic studies. Over time, research models on these two primary sources of Islam have undergone a methodological transformation, from traditional, history-based approaches to contextual, interdisciplinary approaches. This article aims to comprehensively examine research models on the Qur'an and Hadith, both classical and modern, and their relevance in addressing contemporary challenges. This research uses a qualitative approach based on library research. The results indicate that research models on the Qur'an and Hadith are dynamic and adaptive to developments in science, without abandoning the principles of textual authenticity.
