Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine whether the implementation of the New Student Admission (Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru [PPDB]) policy promotes equitable access to quality education in Indonesia. Using National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas, 2015–2021) data, the study assesses changes in student mobility from low socioeconomic backgrounds, transportation costs to school, and participation of students with disabilities. Schoollevel National Examination scores from 2015 to 2019 were analyzed to assess changes in the distribution of learning outcomes before and after PPDB implementation. The findings indicate that PPDB has expanded access for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds by increasing enrollment in public schools and reducing transportation costs through proximity-based admissions. Disparities in learning outcomes across schools have narrowed over time; however, this reduction is primarily attributable to declining performance in previously high-performing schools rather than significant improvements in low-performing schools. Although PPDB provides a pathway for students with disabilities to enter public schools, its effectiveness in promoting disability inclusion remains limited, as school readiness and accessibility have not improved significantly. The results suggest that PPDB contributes to greater equity in access, but its success in sustaining learning quality and inclusive education requires complementary policies targeting school capacity, teacher preparedness, and inclusive infrastructure.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the requisite skills for Differentiated instruction (DI) implementation and to identify best practices across school levels. Differentiated instruction (DI) for deeper learning is essential for responding to students’ diverse needs. Using 112 self-reported essays, interviews, videotaped practices, and experts meeting, this study employed Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) to capture the knowledge experts use to carry out differentiation. The results revealed a 4:9:2 skill formula across the preparation, implementation, and evaluation phases. Notable differences across school levels emerged. In the preparation phase, primary and secondary school teachers prepared varied materials (34%) and grouping strategies (44%), whereas only a few kindergarten teachers (3%) employed these strategies. In the implementation phase, most primary (68%) and secondary (79%) teachers tailored materials to students' learning styles by offering content in multiple formats; however, only a small proportion of kindergarten teachers (26%) differentiated content, focusing instead on process differentiation and additional learning support. Despite the differing contexts, the study also identified cross-level similarities. Future research should investigate the long-term impacts of DI on student achievement and engagement, as well as examine DI practices in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how national policies conceptualize inclusion through nonformal learning pathways and evaluates their operational effectiveness. It examines the role of nonformal education as a strategic tool for social inclusion in Indonesia, focusing on the persistent gap between symbolic policy commitments and transformative educational practices. Using a qualitative approach with a critical analytical literature review design, data were gathered through systematic analysis of policy texts, academic publications, and institutional reports. Thematic content analysis was used to identify patterns in discourse and policy orientation. Findings indicate that current policies prioritize vocational and administrative objectives while neglecting community-based inclusive learning practices. Structural fragmentation, limited state support, and the absence of an inclusive pedagogical framework weaken implementation. This study underscores the urgency of integrating nonformal education into the national inclusivity framework, supported by measurable indicators and cross-sectoral coordination. The uniqueness of this study lies in bridging critical pedagogy and inclusivity theory to position nonformal education as a transformative and policy-relevant domain in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational board game Digital Marketing Tycoon (DMT) in enhancing high school students’ understanding of digital marketing concepts. Using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design, 345 students from Semarang and Jakarta were divided into an experimental group (n = 177) and a control group (n = 168). The experimental group played DMT for 60–90 minutes, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected through a validated 20-item online quiz (Cronbach’s a = .82) administered before and after the intervention. Paired-samples t test revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group (mean increase = 13.94 points), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.55). The control group showed minimal change. A Shapiro–Wilk test confirmed the normality of the data. A strong positive correlation (r = .640, p < .001) indicated consistent learning gains across all ability levels. Qualitative observations indicated increased engagement, collaboration, and strategic thinking. The findings support the integration of purpose-designed board games into entrepreneurship curricula to bridge abstract concepts with real-world application. Recommendations include piloting Digital Marketing Tycoon within national curriculum frameworks, providing teacher training in gamification, and conducting longitudinal studies to assess long-term knowledge retention.
