Abstract

The proliferation of social media has revolutionized activism, particularly in Global South countries, where traditional forms of protest often face significant constraints. This research examines the rise of digital movements facilitated by social media platforms, focusing on how these tools empower marginalized communities and amplify their voices. The study aims to analyze the strategies employed by activists and the impact of social media on mobilization and advocacy efforts in these regions. A mixed-methods approach was utilized, combining quantitative surveys of social media users involved in activism with qualitative interviews of key activists and organizations. Data were collected from several Global South countries to provide a comprehensive understanding of the digital activism landscape. Findings indicate that social media not only enhances the visibility of social issues but also fosters community building and solidarity among diverse groups. Activists reported increased engagement and reach through digital platforms, which have allowed them to bypass traditional media gatekeepers. The research concludes that social media plays a pivotal role in the resurgence of activism in the Global South, enabling grassroots movements to flourish. While digital tools offer unprecedented opportunities for mobilization, challenges such as misinformation and state repression remain prevalent. This study highlights the need for ongoing research into the dynamics of digital activism, particularly in understanding how social media can be leveraged to sustain movements and promote social change in the Global South. The insights gained contribute to the broader discourse on the evolving nature of activism in the digital era.

Abstract

Marine sedimentation exploitation, regulated in Government Regulation No. 26 of 2023, aims to manage marine sedimentation results, including using sea sand for various economic interests. However, although this regulation aims to maintain the balance of the aquatic ecosystem, its implementation actually poses significant risks to the sustainability of coastal ecosystems, including the potential for small islands to sink. This study examines the impacts of marine sand exploitation on the environment, coastal communities, and the economic sector and evaluates the effectiveness of supervision and administrative sanctions in the regulation. The results of the study indicate that although this regulation includes various obligations for business actors, weak supervision and the lack of effective mitigation measures have the potential to worsen ecological, social, and economic impacts. Therefore, this study recommends a revision of the regulation that pays more attention to ecosystem sustainability and the involvement of coastal communities in decision-making related to marine resource management.

Abstract

This study analyzes the tax compliance of MSMEs in rural areas of Semarang Regency regarding the implementation of Government Regulation 23/2018. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved interviews and observations of 30 MSME owners. Data shows that out of 24,567 MSMEs, only 45% are registered as taxpayers with a tax return reporting compliance rate of 62.3%. Factors affecting tax compliance include geographical distance, income level, digital literacy, and seasonal income patterns. MSMEs located more than 20 kilometers from the tax office have 23% lower compliance rates, while 65% of MSME owners are unfamiliar with online tax reporting systems. The findings indicate the need for an integrated approach to improving MSME tax compliance in rural areas, including strengthening socialization, increasing service accessibility, and developing adaptive taxation systems.

Abstract

Police code of ethics law enforcement is a crucial aspect in creating a police institution that is professional, accountable, and trusted by the public. This article discusses the problems faced in the procedure for the code of ethics trial for Polri members, with a focus on the law enforcement mechanism for violations of the professional code of ethics in the police. Although there is a clear regulatory framework, including Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022, the implementation of the code of ethics trial is often marred by a lack of transparency and accountability. The trial, which is carried out behind closed doors, results in public distrust of the integrity of the law enforcement process. In addition, the sanctions imposed are often considered disproportionate to the severity of the violation, creating the impression that violators can avoid more severe consequences. This study also highlights other issues that arise, such as the overlap between the code of ethics trial process and criminal justice, as well as the neglect of victims' rights in the legal process. By analyzing these problems, this study provides an effort for the necessary reforms in the Polri Code of ethics and law enforcement mechanism to ensure justice and accountability and increase public trust in the police institution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership on employee performance with organizational culture as a mediating variable at Ciawi Regional General Hospital (RSUD Ciawi). A quantitative approach was employed using the Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method. The sample was determined using Slovin's formula, resulting in 120 respondents consisting of RSUD Ciawi employees. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using SEM-PLS software. The results revealed that transformational leadership positively and significantly affects employee performance (Hypothesis 1). Organizational culture also positively and significantly influences employee performance (Hypothesis 2). Furthermore, organizational culture effectively mediates the relationship between transformational leadership and employee performance, with a positive and significant effect (Hypothesis 3). These findings indicate that a strong organizational culture can enhance the impact of transformational leadership in improving employee performance. The practical implications of this study emphasize the importance of adopting transformational leadership styles and strengthening organizational culture to enhance employee performance. RSUD Ciawi management is encouraged to develop leadership programs that promote communication, motivation, and innovation while consistently implementing organizational cultural values. This study contributes theoretically to the literature on transformational leadership, organizational culture, and employee performance, particularly in the context of regional hospitals. Future research is recommended to explore other variables that may mediate or moderate these relationships, such as work motivation or job satisfaction.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now become one of the key technologies in driving the transformation towards a green economy and sustainable development. AI offers innovative solutions in various sectors, such as energy, agriculture, transportation, and waste management, to increase efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and optimize natural resources. This journal discusses how AI can be a catalyst in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a multidisciplinary approach. In the energy sector, AI facilitates the optimization of renewable energy use and the development of smart grids. In agriculture, AI helps create smart agricultural systems that minimize environmental impacts. In addition, the application of AI in waste management and the circular economy allows for optimal utilization of waste to reduce environmental pollution. However, there are several challenges that must be overcome, such as the digital divide, ethical and privacy issues, workforce disruption, and high implementation costs. This journal also provides several strategic recommendations, including collaboration between government, industry, and academia, strengthening policies, and investing in education and training to encourage inclusive and sustainable AI adoption. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be concluded that the optimal application of AI can accelerate the transition to a green economy and strengthen the sustainable development agenda, but must be supported by appropriate regulations and active participation from all stakeholders.
