Abstract

Abstract - During the Distance Learning (DL) period, WhatsApp became the main communication medium between teachers and students, which is mediated by parents. This study aims to describe the interactions that occur between teachers and parents through social media. The study used the interaction theory, specifically the theory of interaction and interaction process analysis and group development. The method used is virtual ethnography. The study findings illustrate that interaction patterns between teachers, parents, and students for the teaching-learning process are slightly different when they are done through online media. Teachers are more likely to interact with parents in a two-way communication, where parents will then interact with students regarding the teachers’ messages. The interactions done are common, prominently in the form of task behaviors and socio-emotional behaviors. The emerged interactions involved six phases: evaluation, control, decision making, tension management, and integration. There’s a balanced interaction ratio between the task field and the socio-emotional field.

Abstract

The election of the village head is a democracy celebration for such communities as that in Kedungjati Village. The people of Kedungjati Village have strong ties among themselves so they know the prospective village head on a personal level. However cheating is still often encountered, one of whose elements is the practice of money politics. This study aims to explain the rational actions of the people of Kedungjati Village regarding the acceptance of money politics. The previous election of the candidate for Village Head of Kedungjati was won by the candidate with the least encounters of money politics. This study uses a qualitative approach with observations and interviews. The subjects of this research are the people of Kedungjati Village who accepted money politics when the election for the Village Head of Kedungjati was in progress. The results showed that the act of accepting bribes was based on a utilitarian mindset. People consider money politics as a tradition. The people of Kedungjati Village will come to the TPS with sangu money or money given by the candidates. Money politics is accepted because of the assumption that rejecting luck is not a good thing. Since the beginning, the community has known the motives and goals of the candidates. But on the other hand, society has its own criteria for candidates without coercion put in effect by money politics.

Abstract

This research analyzes the 2018 West Java Provincial Election, more specifically the case of the hashtag campaign strategy, “2019 to Replace the President”, on the increase in the votes for the Sudrajat-Ahmad Saikhu ticket. The research method is qualitative and the type of research is descriptive-analytic. Data are collected through in-depth interviews and library research. The research finds that the movement had the following impacts: First, it contributed to the voting preference of those who previously had voted for Prabowo Subianto in the 2014 general election. Second, the other candidate Deddy Mizwar’s supporters switched sides to the Sudrajat-Ahmad Saikhu ticket due to the still strong sentiments of the 212 movement for the urban Muslim population. Third, the increase in vote share for the Sudrajat-Ahmad Saikhu ticket was partly shared by the fact that the Regencies of Bogor, Bekasi, and Sukabumi, as well as the Cities of Depok and Bekasi were PKS and Gerindra strongholds

Abstract

Marine debris is a problem that rises to global and national urgency, given the fact that Indonesia is the second largest contributor of plastic waste to the world after China. The author tries to examine Indonesia’s national action plan on marine debris and the policy as a driver in the implementation of SDGs no. 14. In answering these problems, the authors use descriptive qualitative method by describing the previously collected data which are then arranged to systematically discuss. The article finds that the national action plan is considered an initiative in stemming Indonesia’s concerns on the problem of plastic waste. This article also finds that this program cannot be said to be effective because there are several aspects that need to be reviewed; however, it can be said to be effective when assessed in the context of Indonesia’s compliance with the international maritime regime.

Abstract

The 2019 Presidential Election is a practical implication of the post-truth populist trends in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the Millennials’ perception on the post-truth rhetorics of presidential candidates in the 2019 Presidential Election. The theory used in this study is the theory of post-truth rhetorics, grounded on phenomenology and the descriptive-qualitative approach. The article finds that there was a rejection of Prabowo’s post-truth populist rhetorics because they were incompatible with Indonesia’s political, social and cultural characters. In the Indonesian political context, rhetorical ability is not a benchmark. The most important thing is the credibility, integrity, and track record of political actors. It was also found that the media tends to eschew Prabowo’s post-truth populist messages. But in principle, there is almost no stark difference among both candidates’ populist rethorics in the election. Both carry identity politics and are affiliated with elites and oligarchs, so the populist politics are contradictory to the candidates.

Abstract

This article reveals sexist bias in reporting on the 2018 Asian Games event on the online media Liputan6. com. The theoretical basis used is the theory of commodification, gender theory and feminism and representation. The research method takes into account Sara Mills’s critical discourse analysis, with news subjects selected purposively with a sexual bias. The results of the study reveal that the bias occurs through the representation of women who have been reduced in such a way that they only construct female athletes as beautiful aesthetic objects. Women are selected, defined, and displayed as objects and it no longer corresponds to the relevance of sports reporting. This reduction occurs both in texts and in visual image displays.

Abstract

This article discusses the constellation of Golkar and its elites after the fall of the New Order administration. The conceptual and theoretical framework used includes party functions and the circulation of political elites. This article uses descriptive qualitative research methods based on primary data sourced from direct interviews with Golkar officials and on secondary data from various documents and publications of research. The results of the study show that at the beginning after the end of the New Order administration, the political elites of Golkar developed a constellation of elites that adopted a democratic and bottom-up and collegial culture, leaving behind the authoritarian practices. However, before and after the 2009 presidential election, with the entry of several businessmen into Golkar, the Golkar political elites carried out transactional practices in building power bases both at the party and government levels. This condition interferes with the recruitment processes and puts Golkar in an awkward position when not in power

Abstract

As a superpower country that plays an essential role in supporting the development of third-world countries, the United States of America issued a policy made explicitly for countries in the Sub-Saharan African  countries. This study attempts to discuss African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) as a foreign policy initiated by the United States as the leading actor in providing economic assistance to support the development in Africa. This study uses the concept of foreign policy to achieve the state’s national interest. It uses the qualitative method to collect the data needed to fulfill the information regarding the author’s topic. This study finds that this policy immensely helped Africa become a productive region and compete internationally. Although its application has many challenges, AGOA generally grants both parties. Abstract

This article describes the Arab Spring phenomenon that rocked the Middle East, especially Morocco. Arab Spring succeeded in bringing down the authoritarian leaders and dictators in power. This study uses decision-making theory to describe the problems that occur. Then the writer uses the descriptive-analytical method to fulfill the research sources to be studied. This research tries to answer the question how is the strategy of King Mohammed VI to avoid the storm of the Arab revolution after a series of protests that took place in his country? After conducting the research, we concluded that the strategy of King Mohammed VI in dealing with the wave of demonstrators in Morocco could be said to be different from the method used by other North African countries. King Mohammed VI changed his approach to problem-solving, not using violence but with a persuasive strategy. His efforts in stifling the turmoil of demonstrations in his country bore fruit. At least two factors contributed to his success in reducing protests in his country, namely the factors of openness and trust. This success made Morocco maintain its government without the fall of leadership. It is different from countries in the phenomenon of the Arab Spring.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the victory of the number one village head candidate in the 2019 Pilkades in Mojongapit Village who worked as a trader, did not have a political background, and did not hold a bachelor’s status. The candidate election for the village head was due to the community’s objectives (action rationality). With this phenomenon, this study aims to find out the rationality of the people of Mojongapit Village in choosing a candidate for a village head in the 2019 Pilkades. This study uses a qualitative method with the Verstehen approach, which aims to interpret every action taken by the community, such as choosing a candidate for a village head. In addition, the research will analyze reality using the perspective of Max Weber’s phenomenological theory, which focuses on the rationality of action. The study results show that the community’s reasonable measures in choosing the number one candidate for village head include: First, instrumental actions: vision and mission according to community expectations and ease of administration. Second, effective measures: disappointment in previous leadership, admiration for authority, sympathy caused by physical appearance and character. Third, value-oriented action: the candidate for the village head has been active in the Nahdlatul Ulama student association. Fourth, traditional acts of family background are within the same neighbourhood’s scope. The conclusion of this study shows that the community chooses the village head based on rationality
