Abstract

This research aims to analyse the function of contemporary fatwas in mitigating extremism and radicalism, providing insights into their efficacy within the current social and cultural milieu. The goal of this study is to help come up with innovative ways to deal with these threats. The growth of radicalism and religious fanaticism, especially in Muslim populations, is a menace to the whole world. Misreading religious scriptures and spreading radical ideas frequently lead to bloodshed, which makes things less peaceful. Fatwas, which are religious rulings made by Islamic experts, are very important for dealing with these problems. This qualitative study examines the function of fatwas in mitigating extremism and radicalism. It looks at fatwas given by well-known scholars and institutions in reaction to extremist ideology. It focuses on how these fatwas make it clear what the true understanding of Islam is and discourage radical beliefs. The results show how important fatwas are for spreading moderate, peaceful views of Islam and how important religious leaders are for leading communities towards tolerance and living together. The study indicates that fatwas can effectively inhibit the proliferation of extremism, contingent upon their issuance by reputable, competent scholars who prioritise peace in their interpretations.

Abstract

This study aims to critically analyze the concept of essentialist education from the perspective of Islamic educational philosophy, particularly in relation to educational goals, curriculum, the role of educators, and student orientation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a library research method, this study examines various literature such as books, journals, and scholarly works related to educational philosophy and the essentialist school of thought. The findings show that essentialism emphasizes the mastery of fundamental disciplines, long-standing cultural values, and the authoritative role of teachers in the learning process. Islamic perspectives share common ground with essentialism in terms of discipline formation, knowledge transmission, and character development, yet differ in the need to provide a more balanced space for student participation and potential development. This study concludes that essentialism can contribute to the development of Islamic education when adapted contextually, while maintaining a balance between teacher authority, modern curricular needs, and the spiritual as well as intellectual growth of learners.

Abstract

Islamic accounting is frequently perceived as a modern modification of Western accounting, despite substantial historical evidence that its foundations emerged organically within early Islamic civilization. This study addresses the broader question of how Islamic accounting evolved as both a financial and ethical institution and how it can respond to contemporary global challenges. The purpose of this research is to examine the historical development of Islamic accounting, identify its epistemological challenges in the modern era, and evaluate its potential contribution to ethical finance and sustainability. Using a qualitative design, the study employs historical analysis, hermeneutic interpretation, and discourse analysis. Data consist of classical Islamic administrative records, fiqh texts, hisbah manuals, modern standards such as AAOIFI and PSAK Syariah, and contemporary scholarly articles. Data collection followed purposive sampling of relevant documents, while analysis involved thematic coding and cross-textual comparison. Results show that accounting practices were institutionalized as early as the Prophet Muhammad’s era, strengthened under the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn—especially through the Bayt al-Māl—and formalized during the Abbasid period through market regulation and ethical oversight. Contemporary findings reveal that Islamic accounting still relies heavily on Western frameworks, faces challenges from digital finance, and struggles to embed Islamic ethical objectives fully. The implications suggest that Islamic accounting can support global agendas such as ESG and sustainable development by operationalizing maqasid al-shariah in reporting systems. In conclusion, the study highlights the need for epistemological reconstruction, digital Sharia governance, and deeper sustainability integration, offering clear directions for future research and policy development.

Abstract

Islamic theology is a field of study concerned with matters of creed. However, throughout its historical development, classical Islamic theology has been characterized by a predominant focus on metaphysical issues and the vertical relationship between humans and God. The objective of this study is defined as the identification of epistemological weaknesses and the tendency toward stagnation within classical Islamic theology, which is considered irrelevant to the contemporary context. Therefore, the reexamination of classical Islamic theology is deemed necessary so that it may remain relevant to the issues faced by humanity in the present century. A qualitative method with a library research approach is employed in this study. Data analysis is conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and interpretation in order to obtain a comprehensive conceptual understanding. The findings indicate that classical Islamic theology is marked by stagnation due to its excessive emphasis on metaphysical matters, resulting in limited capacity to address social challenges in the era of globalization. Globalization is viewed as necessitating a renewal of theology that is more rational, adaptive, and relevant to societal needs. It is concluded that a contextual and transformative reconstruction of Islamic theology is required. The concept of ummatan wasathan is presented as offering a foundation for the development of a moderate theology that is responsive to contemporary change. The implications suggest that Islamic theology needs to be directed toward a form of social theology capable of addressing issues such as poverty, injustice, and identity crises.

Abstract

Persuasive language is widely used in religious discourse on social media to influence public perception and action, particularly in humanitarian issues such as the genocide in Palestine. In this context, rhetorical strategies play a crucial role in shaping support and solidarity. Purpose: This study aims to identify and describe the persuasion strategies employed in religious discourse about the Palestinian genocide on Instagram, and to explain how linguistic techniques construct moral and emotional support for Palestine. Methods: The research adopts a descriptive qualitative design with a critical discourse analysis approach. Data were collected through purposive sampling from 16 images posted on the feeds and stories of six Instagram accounts discussing Palestine. The data consist of phrases and sentence fragments containing persuasive elements. Each item was coded according to Aristotle’s rhetorical strategies (logos, ethos, pathos) and analyzed using linguistic techniques such as repetition, metaphor, synecdoche, irony, and slogan formulation. Results: The study identifies three main persuasion strategies: (1) logos, reflected through evidential claims, rhetorical questions, slogans, repetition, and comparative stylistic devices; (2) ethos, manifested through religious–moral values, irony, metaphors, and sound-play that strengthen the speaker’s credibility; and (3) pathos, expressed through emotional appeals, the synecdoche of “the heart,” and imperative statements encouraging empathy and moral action. Implications: The findings indicate that digital religious discourse significantly contributes to shaping public opinion and strengthening humanitarian advocacy through effective rhetorical strategies. Conclusions: Religious utterances on Instagram combine logic, moral credibility, and emotional appeal to influence audiences. The study recommends further research on digital rhetoric in religious and global conflict discourse.

Abstract

This particular research focuses on ijtihad and its role as a processor in Islam within the context of revelation and the modern day realities of the world. The rationale behind this research is the necessity for a Sharia compliant legal system in the context of the social, technological, and cultural changes, hence the need for a ‘contextual’ and ‘adaptive’ legal approach. This particular research focuses on the challenge of how ijtihad is able to respond to current problems while preserving Islamic teachings to the bare minimum. The methodology adopted in this particular study is a literature survey and qualitative research of Islamic writings as well as modern day fatwas on the practice of ijtihad. The findings of the study suggest that ijtihad is necessary and instrumental in Islamic law in the context of modern Islamic critical thinking within a multidisciplinary context of Islam in Contemporary ideas of finance, bioethics, and information technology (it). It is therefore justified that ijtihad remains a principle instrument interlinking the revelation and the modern day problems of the Muslim world.

Abstract

Technological developments in the Society 5.0 era not only bring convenience but also raise moral and character issues among students, requiring an educational model capable of addressing these challenges in a broader context. This study aims to analyze how Qur'anic values and Living Values Education (LVE) are integrated in strengthening students' character education and to test its effectiveness as a model for Islamic character building. Using a descriptive quantitative method, the research was conducted through a survey of 300 students in grades VII, VIII, and IX at MTsN 1 Sukamara, Central Kalimantan, with a closed questionnaire containing 15 statements covering the variables of understanding, application, and impact of Qur'anic values and LVE. Data analysis was carried out to see the response trends and the relationship between variables. The results showed that students had a good level of understanding of the importance of Qur'anic-based character education (65.8%), teachers consistently linked learning to Qur'anic values (50.7%), and regular religious activities contributed significantly to character building (60.7%). Although social media influences behavior (50.3%), students still try to filter digital content according to Islamic teachings (55%). These findings indicate that the integration of Qur'anic values and LVE effectively strengthens students' religious, social, and digital character. The implications of this study confirm that this integrative approach can be used as a model for character education policies and practices in Islamic educational institutions. In conclusion, the Qur'anic-LVE integration model is relevant for application in the Society 5.0 era and is recommended for further development in subsequent studies.

Abstract

This article analyzes the normative logic of riba and its manifestations within market exchange from the perspective of Islamic legal theory. Drawing on Qur’anic injunctions, Prophetic traditions, and classical as well as contemporary juristic interpretations, the study distinguishes between the primary conception of riba, rooted in debt-based transactions (riba al-qard), and its derivative forms in commercial exchanges (riba al-buyuʿ), such as riba al-fadhl and riba al-nasī’ah. These classifications reflect the broader legal principles of fairness, equivalence, and transparency that underpin Islamic economic ethics. The research employs a qualitative library-based approach to examine authoritative legal sources and scholarly works, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the doctrinal foundations governing the prohibition of riba. The findings reveal that the prohibition is not merely ritualistic or theological in nature but serves a substantive socio-economic function by preventing exploitation, wealth concentration, and market distortions. In addition, the paper highlights contemporary manifestations of riba, including non-transparent credit sales, late-payment penalties, non-cash gold transactions, and conditional sales that create unjust advantage demonstrating how classical legal categories remain relevant in modern financial practices. The study also engages with alternative views, particularly those proposing a distinction between exploitative usury and mutually agreed interest, as articulated by scholars such as Sjafruddin Prawiranegara. Ultimately, this article argues that the normative logic of riba is fundamentally tied to the preservation of distributive justice and ethical balance in economic relations, underscoring the need for Sharia-compliant contractual models that uphold these principles.

Abstract

This study explores the development of Islamic character values through the implementation of a case method–based learning model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the university level. The research highlights three fundamental pillars of character formation: curricular learning, the establishment of a religious campus culture, and character reinforcement through co-curricular activities. Within the curricular aspect, character values are integrated through systematic instructional planning, including syllabus development, course design, and the use of Islamic civilization materials as contextual learning resources. The study also emphasizes the strategic role of the campus mosque as a practical learning space and cultural symbol that represents the integration of Islamic teachings with Indonesian local culture. The case method enables meaningful learning experiences by engaging students in problem-solving activities grounded in real socio-religious issues and by encouraging the examination of scriptural evidence within contemporary contexts. Digital learning media, interactive multimedia, and authentic assessment techniques—such as observation, self-assessment, peer assessment, worship journals, and interviews—are utilized comprehensively in the evaluation process. The findings indicate that this approach effectively enhances students’ religious literacy, critical thinking abilities, and social character, particularly in responding to the challenges of the disruption era. In conclusion, the case method–based PAI learning design offers a progressive, humanistic, and value-oriented pedagogical framework that contributes significantly to the revitalization of Islamic education management. This approach not only strengthens students’ abilities in problem-solving and religious practice but also provides a strategic foundation for advancing character education in higher education institutions.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the idea that social piety values should reflect religious behavior that fosters concern, justice, and social responsibility. However, in practice, reality shows a decline in empathy, increasing individualism, and a decline in public moral role models. The purpose of this study is to examine the development of research on social piety during 2015–2025 and provide recommendations for strengthening these values through academic studies based on bibliometric analysis. The study used a quantitative design with a research bibliometric method. The primary data consisted of 744 article publications (clean data) from Crossref, while the secondary data consisted of books, proceedings, research reports, papers, and theses. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and qualitatively with the help of the Publish or Perish and VOSviewer applications. The study was conducted in October 2025. The results showed a significant increase in publications on the theme of social piety with a peak in 2024. The publication sources were dominated by journals (661 sources), followed by repositories, proceedings, digital books, and final project scientific papers. The nine most productive researchers are Muslim Sabarisman, Suradi, Kadaruddin Aiyub, Dinie Anggraeni Dewi, Habibullah, Nunik Hariyani, Ruaida Murni, Heri Harjanto Setiawan, and Muhammad Yasin. Developed issues include action, social interaction, Pancasila, schools, methods, and technology, while potential issues for development include communication, public, tradition, and teaching. The limitations of this research lie in the data source, which only uses Crossref and limited analytical tools, so it is recommended that further research combine the Scopus or WoS databases with advanced bibliometric tools.
