Abstract

Science education in junior high school continues to face difficulties in improving student learning outcomes, especially in physical and chemical changes topic. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the experimental learning method in improving student learning outcomes at SMP Negeri 3 Cikancung. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design. Data were analysed using non-parametric statistical tests and N-Gain value calculations to measure the improvement in students' learning outcomes. The normality test showed that the data were not normally distributed, with a p-value of 0.000; therefore, the analysis was continued with the Wilcoxon test. The analysis results showed a significant difference between students' initial and final scores, with p = 0.000. The average final scores of the students increased, with a N-Gain percentage of 78.11%, which is considered high. This finding indicates that implementing experimental methods for the topic of physical and chemical changes is effective in improving students' learning outcomes. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of more innovative teaching methods in science education at the junior high school level.

Abstract

Chemistry learning in senior high schools (SMA) is seen as abstract and theoretically oriented, making it less contextually meaningful for students. The integration of national values of patriotism and the use of local wisdom in science learning, especially chemistry, is still limited compared to social subjects. This study aims to examine the integration of local wisdom in chemistry learning on the colligative properties of solutions through the practice of making salted eggs (a traditional Indonesian food product) as an effort to foster patriotic character education. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with 34 students of grade XI as subjects. Data were obtained through a response questionnaire and analyzed descriptively in the form of percentages. The results of the study showed an increase in the attitude of patriotism through reflection on local wisdom-based chemistry learning, increasing students' awareness of the scientific and cultural value of local products, encouraging a commitment to be proud of innovating and developing local products that can improve the welfare of the Indonesian people, not just for consumption but also for cultural heritage that can be developed scientifically and economically. The integration of science and culture in this learning was able to increase student involvement in the learning process, facilitate the understanding of chemical concepts, and show the meeting point between understanding chemical concepts and strengthening the character of patriotism, and is in line with the Pancasila Student Profile and the principles of meaningful contextual learning.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing number of character issues in students within the school environment, such as low discipline, lack of responsibility, and behavior that does not reflect social values. This situation highlights the importance of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services in supporting more targeted and sustainable character development in students. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of BK services in shaping student character at SMPN 2 Telukjambe. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach, with one BK teacher and two ninth-grade students selected purposively because they had participated in BK services. Data were obtained through observation and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that BK services are implemented in a structured manner through classical guidance, individual counseling, and character development activities integrated with religious programs. Collaboration between BK teachers, Islamic Religious Education teachers, homeroom teachers, and parents is a key supporting factor in shaping student character. However, challenges remain in detecting student problems that are not directly visible, necessitating increased counselor sensitivity and strengthening early detection strategies.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed educational supervision practices in schools, particularly in the collection of learning materials, classroom observations, and communication between teachers and principals. This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital-based educational supervision, the challenges faced, and its impact on improving teacher professionalism. This study employed a literature review method with a qualitative descriptive approach, reviewing 10 national scientific articles published between 2020 and 2023 and relevant supporting documents. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques to identify key patterns and findings related to the implementation of digital supervision. The results indicate that digital supervision can simplify the documentation process, accelerate communication, and provide a more focused space for teacher reflection. Teachers become more thorough and structured in preparing learning materials, while principals can provide more targeted feedback. However, the effectiveness of digital supervision is influenced by teachers' digital literacy, principal support, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. If these factors are met, digital-based supervision can run optimally and contribute to improving the quality of learning, teacher professionalism, and a more accountable work culture in schools. Abstract

Algebraic thinking plays a fundamental role in developing students’ mathematical reasoning, particularly in recognizing patterns, representing relationships, and generalizing mathematical ideas. This study aims to describe students’ algebraic thinking abilities based on gender and to determine whether there is a significant difference between male and female students. The research employed a descriptive comparative method involving eighth-grade students as the sample, selected using total sampling. Data were collected through a written test designed to measure key components of algebraic thinking, including generational, transformational, and meta-global abilities. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics through the Mann–Whitney U test. The results indicate that male students’ algebraic thinking ability is categorized as moderate, with an average score of 51.48, while female students demonstrate a higher level of ability categorized as good, with an average score of 61.53 (as shown in the results table on page 5). Female students outperform male students across all components of algebraic thinking, particularly in transformational abilities. Statistical analysis reveals a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), indicating that gender influences students’ algebraic thinking performance. The findings suggest that female students tend to be more accurate, systematic, and careful in solving algebraic problems, while male students are more likely to rely on arithmetic or intuitive approaches. This study highlights the importance of designing instructional strategies that support the development of algebraic thinking for all students while considering gender differences. Further research is recommended to explore effective teaching approaches that enhance students’ algebraic thinking skills comprehensively.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based behavioral intervention in improving on-task behavior and instruction compliance among students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in an inclusive Islamic elementary school. The study employed a Single Subject Research (SSR) A–B–A–B reversal design with one male student aged 8 years (Grade 2) who was identified with Combined-type ADHD based on formal psychological assessment. Data were collected through direct observations across 20 sessions distributed across four research phases. The observation instrument was validated through expert judgment (Aiken’s V = 0.88) and demonstrated adequate interobserver reliability (mean IOA = 87.5%). Results indicate that on-task behavior improved from a mean of 36% during the first baseline phase (A1) to 70% during the second intervention phase (B2), while instruction compliance increased from 40% (A1) to 72.6% (B2). Visual analysis of the SSD graph yielded a Percentage of Non-overlapping Data (PND) of 100% for both intervention phases, indicating a highly effective intervention effect. These findings suggest that ABA is an effective strategy for improving academic engagement among students with ADHD in inclusive educational settings, with practical implications for classroom behavioral management.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) the forms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage as a shortcut thinking tool among students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri in Lamongan Regency, (2) the use of AI from the perspective of Cognitive Misers Theory, and (3) its impact on students’ cognitive laziness. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method to gain an in-depth understanding of students’ behaviors, experiences, and thought patterns within the context of digital learning culture. The participants consisted of 30 students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri in Lamongan Regency, selected through purposive sampling based on the intensity of their AI usage in academic activities. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, school documents, learning assignment patterns, and relevant literature. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that: (1) AI is used as a shortcut thinking tool to obtain quick answers, simplify difficult tasks, reduce cognitive burden, and accelerate task completion. This behavior is influenced by the school environment, social media, digital culture, and limited critical AI literacy; (2) from the perspective of Cognitive Misers Theory, students’ AI use reflects a tendency to conserve mental effort through cognitive offloading, shallow information processing, the use of instant heuristics, and a preference for practical solutions over deep understanding; and (3) the impacts include declining critical thinking skills, increasing dependence on AI, the strengthening of a pragmatic learning culture, weakened independent learning, and the normalization of an instant culture that may reinforce cognitive laziness. This study concludes that AI has shifted from being a learning support tool to an instrument of academic efficiency that risks transforming reflective learning into a pragmatic culture if not balanced with critical AI literacy and adequate pedagogical supervision.
