Abstract

Mathematics is often considered an abstract and difficult subject for students to grasp. Understanding geometry, in particular, requires visualization skills that many students struggle with. This research aims to assess students' understanding of geometry through the ethnomathematics approach using Ngadas Temple as a learning medium. Therefore, this study implements ethnomathematics-based student worksheets (LKS) in Ngadas Temple, Malang, East Java. The LKS focuses on geometry, particularly plane figures, by engaging students from grades 4 to 6 Elementary School 1 Ngadas in interactive learning. Conducted as part of the Sisis Indonesia (SINESIA) volunteer program in Ngadas from December 15 to 21, 2024, this research employed a descriptive method, where students’ responses were analyzed based on correctness, misconceptions, and partial understanding. Data collection methods included written tests, observations, and documentation. Findings indicate that students could identify plane figures but struggled with spatial visualization and recognizing 3D shapes. Furthermore, while some students could determine area and perimeter, others faced difficulties in measurement and calculations. This study highlights the effectiveness of ethnomathematics in fostering students’ engagement and comprehension through real-world applications.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI) through two different approaches at SMPN 2 West Karawang. The method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: a control class that received learning through the traditional lecture method, and an experimental class that used technological media such as PowerPoint. The learning process was conducted in four meetings, with pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement of learning outcomes. The results showed that the average N-Gain value in the control class was 0.69 (medium category), while the experimental class was 0.10 (low category). This finding shows that in the context of this study, the traditional approach gave better results than the use of technological media. However, this does not mean that technology is less useful, but rather indicates the importance of student readiness, media suitability with learner characteristics, and appropriate implementation strategies. This research contributes to the development of PAI learning methods that are more contextual, adaptive, and based on evaluation of real needs in the classroom.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of curriculum development by analyzing two key models: Ralph Tyler’s and Hilda Taba’s. The Tyler model emphasizes a structured and systematic approach, beginning with the formulation of specific learning objectives as the foundation for curriculum design. This approach suits education systems oriented toward national standards or standardized testing, as it facilitates quantitative assessment of learning outcomes. However, its weakness lies in structural rigidity, which is less responsive to individual learner needs. In contrast, the Taba model adopts an inductive and participatory approach, where teachers and students actively collaborate in designing learning materials. This model is ideal for project-based or thematic curricula, such as inquiry-based learning or STEM education, as it fosters adaptation to students’ interests and local contexts. This study employs a literature review method, analyzing academic sources related to both models. The findings suggest that model selection should consider the institutional characteristics of educational organizations. For example, schools with limited resources may find the Tyler model more efficient, while those focused on 21st-century skills development might adopt the Taba model. The study also identifies a growing trend of combining both models, such as using Tyler’s framework of learning objectives developed through Taba’s collaborative process, to balance structure and flexibility. In conclusion, no single model is universal; the success of a curriculum depends on aligning the approach with learners’ needs and institutional capacity.

Abstract

Assessment Classroom assessment plays a pivotal role in determining the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. However, current practices often emphasize cognitive outcomes while overlooking affective and psychomotor domains, resulting in imbalanced student development. The urgency of transforming assessment arises from the demands of 21st-century education and the Merdeka Curriculum, which call for the integration of multiple domains to foster well-rounded competencies. Using a literature review method focused on studies from the last five years, sourced from academic databases such as Google Scholar and ResearchGate, this article identifies key trends and insights from journals, books, and policy documents. Findings reveal that holistic classroom assessment integrating cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains requires restructuring of assessment instruments, enhancement of teacher competencies through professional development, and curriculum alignment. Effective implementation also involves collaborative efforts between teachers, school leaders, and policymakers in designing inclusive and balanced assessment strategies. This transformation not only improves assessment quality but also supports a paradigm shift toward education that nurtures analytical thinking, emotional intelligence, and practical skills. It poses future challenges in scalability and consistency, yet presents a significant opportunity to reshape classroom learning experiences for deeper, more human-centered outcomes.
