Abstract

Background: Undernutrition is a nutritional problem caused by an imbalance between food intake and energy and nutrient needs, particularly protein. Globally, 148.1 million children under 5 years of age suffer from malnutrition, with 45.6 million of them experiencing wasting. In Indonesia, children's health is a primary concern because their health status reflects the future of the nation's development. One of the determinants of optimal nutritional status in children aged 6-24 months is the appropriate provision of complementary foods (MPASI). Aims: This study aims to determine the relationship between the provision of complementary foods with breast milk and the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months in Sinunukan 1 Village, Sinunukan District, Mandailing Natal Regency in 2024. Methods:This research is quantitative with an observational analytical design using a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample size included 40 mothers with children aged 6-24 months in Sinunukan 1 Village, selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used included questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square statistical test. Result: The results showed that the majority of respondents (62.5%) provided appropriate complementary foods, with 47.5% of them having children with normal nutritional status. Conversely, in the inappropriate complementary food category (37.5%), 27.5% of children had abnormal nutritional status. The chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the provision of complementary foods with the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months in Sinunukan 1 Village, Sinunukan District, Mandailing Natal Regency in 2024. Mothers are expected to pay more attention to the appropriateness of providing complementary foods so that children avoid problems with abnormal nutritional status.

Abstract

Background:Providing adequate nutrition for early childhood is crucial for optimal growth and development. The government has strived to improve nutritional quality through the "Isi Piringku" (My Plate) guidelines, which emphasize balanced intake of carbohydrates, protein, and vegetables and fruit. In this context, parental perception is key, as they are fully responsible for providing and managing their children's daily meals. Aims:This study aims to determine the level of parental perception in fulfilling children's nutritional needs based on the "Isi Piringku" guidelines in the Pujon District area. Methods:This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. Subjects included 67 parents from four villages in Pujon District: Ngabab, Pandesari, Bendosari, and Pujon Kidul. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using percentage analysis. Result: The research results show that parents in Pujon District generally have low perceptions regarding children's nutritional needs according to the "Isi Piringku" guidelines. While basic understanding of food portion sizes is quite good, specific weaknesses remain in understanding micronutrients and the classification of certain types of food. Conclusion: The study concluded that although parents understand the importance of a balanced diet, their daily implementation is not optimal. Therefore, more intensive, structured, and sustainable efforts are needed to improve nutrition education for parents to achieve ideal child nutrition in Pujon District.

Abstract

Background: Chronic malnutrition has a significant impact on a child's physical growth, where feeding methods that are not appropriate to their age and nutritional needs are often caused by a lack of knowledge from mothers. Aims: This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months at the Labuhan Rasoki Community Health Center, Padangsidimpuan City, in 2024. Methods:This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach, involving a sample of 70 respondents taken using a total sampling technique from the population of mothers who have children aged 6-24 months. Result: The results of the analysis using the Fisher Exact Test statistical test showed a p value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and children's nutritional status. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the level of maternal knowledge is closely related to the nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months in the working area of the Labuhan Rasoki Health Center in 2024.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are the nation's future assets, whose development is greatly influenced by nutritional intake. However, many high school students still lack a grasp of the concept of balanced nutrition, which can lead to problems such as malnutrition, obesity, and digestive disorders. This lack of nutritional knowledge leads adolescents to choose foods based solely on their five senses without considering their nutritional value. Therefore, educational interventions are needed to improve their understanding of healthy eating patterns. Aims: This study aims to determine the effect of providing nutrition education on improving students' knowledge of balanced nutrition at SMAN 19 Pekanbaru. The main focus of this study was to determine whether there was a significant difference in students' knowledge levels before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention, which involved education using specific media. Methods:This study used a pre-experiment design with a one-group pretest-posttest model, conducted in May 2025. The sample consisted of 86 students in grades 10 and 11 selected using a purposive sampling method. Education was provided through leaflets covering the pillars of balanced nutrition, messages about balanced nutrition, the contents of my plate, and the impact of nutritional deficiencies or excesses. Data were analyzed bivariately using a paired t-test because the data were normally distributed. Result: The study results showed a significant increase in respondents' knowledge of balanced nutrition after receiving education. The educational process, which included the distribution of leaflets, a 30-minute explanation of the material, and a question-and-answer session, proved effective in improving student understanding. This was evident in the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores measured using a validated questionnaire. Conclusion:It can be concluded that providing nutrition education through leaflets has a positive effect on improving students' knowledge of balanced nutrition at SMAN 19 Pekanbaru. This medium is effective because it is simple, inexpensive, and portable, allowing students to study the information repeatedly to help them make healthier food choices.
