Abstract

Studies showed that gratitude can be used as an approach to prevent adolescent mental health problems. The concept of gratitude that was used generally refered to a concept from Western culture or a concept applied to adults. This study aimed to explore the concept of gratitude in early adolescents using qualitative methods. Respondents consisted of 22 boys and 45 girls aged 12 to 15 years. The instrument used was open-ended questionnaire about the meanings, objects, forms of expression, along with the affective sides of gratitude. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result of this study indicated that the concept of gratitude interpreted by early adolescents was represented by four major categories, namely thanking and praising God, accepting, enjoying, and appreciating. The object of gratitude were gifts of God, valuable objects, academic achievements, and social relations. Whereas expressions of gratitude were expressed by praying, verbalizing, worshiping God, developing oneself, and doing positive things to others. These finding showed that the concept of gratitude for early adolescents in Indonesia is closely related to divinity and morals but still intact with the characteristics of adolescent development.

Abstract

Assertiveness is the ability to express thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires with confidence that does not harm yourself or violate the rights of others. In college life, students do not just focus on academic activities but also non-academics, such as student organizations. When participating in organizations, students are faced with some situations that require assertiveness skills. Assertiveness can be influenced by two factors, including emotional intelligence and gender. This quantitative research aims to determine the role of emotional intelligence and gender on the assertiveness of Udayana University Medical Faculty students participating in student organizations. The subjects of this research were 120 students of Udayana University Medical Faculty students participating in student organizations. There are two measuring instruments used in this research, that are assertiveness scale and emotional intelligence scale. This research used analysis of covariance or ANOVA as data analysis technique. The results show the significance value on the corrected model is 0.000 (p <0,05). These results show that emotional intelligence and gender altogether contribute to the assertiveness of Udayana University Medical Faculty Students participating in student organizations.

Abstract

Epilepsy which is known as "epileptic" disease has become controversial in Indonesia. Epilepsy in Indonesia is considered as a cursed person, a cursed child, the sins of the ancestors, and also possessed by spirits. Epilepsy is also still considered as an infectious disease and also mental illness. This makes a negative stigma against people with epilepsy and also affects the families of epilepsy sufferers. The purpose of this article is to provide a study of the myths of epilepsy sufferers from the perspective of cultural psychology. This study is expected to explain the myths of epilepsy sufferers so that there is no negative stigma against epilepsy sufferers. The myth of epilepsy is in the community because of sudden seizures, sufferers struggling, foaming at the mouth for a few minutes and then returning to normal, this is perceived as being possessed by a spirit that is in accordance with the culture of "kejawen" which is then used by some people to become a supernatural science " witchcraft "so that eventually people with epilepsy are considered as possessed by spirits. With the negative stigma towards epilepsy, Indonesia, which has a high collective culture, causes families of epileptic sufferers to try to hide illnesses from sufferers to protect, maintain the harmony of all family members. Referring to the literature, psychological approaches can be applied in the development and understanding of the myths of epileptic sufferers.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period which is usually marked by significant emotional changes. Some teenagers still have difficulty coping with the emotions they are experiencing, so they choose to calm them down by eating. This can be known as emotional eating. However, many adolescents do not know and realize this behavior, which if done excessively can lead to overweight or even obesity. So through this research, we try to find out the extent of adolescent knowledge regarding emotional eating behavior. Our findings indicate that differences in school levels determine this knowledge, so that the provision of material related to eating disorders is not fully understood by adolescents. In fact, the prevention of obesity in adolescents is more effective if given since early adolescence, namely by including the curriculum in schools related to self-control and basic knowledge related to eating disorders and other disorders that generally begin to occur in adolescence.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of emotion regulation training to reduce anxiety levels. The method used in this study is a meta-analysis by reviewing the previous literature of 14 journals published internationally. The number of participants in this study were 877 subjects consisting of 469 subjects in the experimental group and 408 subjects in the control group. Then processing the M, SD, N data in each group to find the effect size value. The result of the effect size of the random effect model is -0.295 (95% CI = -1.69 to 1.10), I2 (inconsistency) = 98.72%, and Egger value: bias = 0.212. Based on these data, training based on emotion regulation is not effective enough in reducing anxiety levels (small effect size).

Abstract

This study aims to understand how parents interpret experiences in assisting children with special needs to learn from home. This research method is phenomenological qualitative with data collection in the form of semi-structured interviews. Interviews were conducted online with three parents of children with special needs obtained by the purposive sampling method. The data obtained were then transcribed and analyzed by Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results showed that there were several superordinate themes, namely: (1) parents' views on the child's condition, (2) difficulties faced while accompanying children to study, (3) emotional experiences while accompanying children, (4) relationship and social support obtained and expected by parents, (5) worries and future expectation. In this study, parents conveyed their personal experiences and feelings in accompanying children while learning from home. This finding can contribute to the field of educational and clinical psychology as a basis for providing appropriate interventions for parents in assisting children with special needs to learn from home. Abstract

Driving behavior is one of the routine activities carried out by individuals on a daily basis, both with two wheeled and four wheeled vehicles. A driver who drives his vehicle can see driving activity is a complex activity. So to be able to drive safely, responsibly and have good driving ethics and behavior, one must also have certain psychological aspects to support soft skills consisting of cognitive, affective and personality. Based on this, the researcher tried to arrange a Form A Psychological Test to obtain a Driver’s License. Psychological Test Form A is administered both online and offline. The construction of the test was carried out based on three aspects of the National Police Chief Regulation No. 5 Year 2021. The items of the psychological test form A have gone through field testing with 41 participants who already have a driving license (SIM) and were selected based on the results of the content validity evaluation with expert judgment, the level of diffilcuty and discriminatory power of the item, and the reliability of each sub aspect. Psychological test form A consist of three aspect and nine sub aspects with a total of 57 items, which has a reliability coefficient of each moving between 0.639 to 0.936.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara faktor kepribadian openness to experience, conscientiousness, dan agreeableness dengan otoritarianisme sayap kanan menggunakan Skala Big Five Inventory (BFI) dan Skala Very Short Authoritarianism (VSA). Penelitian ini juga berupaya mengetahui perbedaan kedua kelompok pemilih Pilpres 2019 ditinjau dari empat variabel tersebut. Partisipan penelitian adalah pemilih berusia 18 – 55 tahun dari 23 provinsi di Indonesia (N = 418). Peneliti melakukan analisis korelasi Spearman untuk menguji hubungan tiga faktor kepribadian dengan otoritarianisme sayap kanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan faktor kepribadian yang paling berkorelasi dengan OSK adalah openness (r = -.166, p < .001), diikuti oleh agreeableness (r = .141, p = .004), dan conscientiousness (r = .136, p = .005). Selain itu, uji beda Mann-Whitney menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok pemilih Jokowi – Amin dan Prabowo – Sandi ditinjau dari faktor OSK (u = 13604, p = .030, Cohen’s d = -.227), tetapi tidak ada perbedaan jika ditinjau dari faktor kepribadian (u = 15546, p = .983, Cohen’s d = .012; u = 15436, p = .899, Cohen’s d = -.026; u = 15522, p = .965, Cohen’s d = -.044). Hasil penelitian ini secara umum mengonfirmasi temuan-temuan sebelumnya sekaligus berkontribusi pada pemahaman tentang hubungan kepribadian dengan ideologi dan perilaku politik. Pembahasan menunjukkan beberapa faktor yang menjelaskan temuan penelitian, keterbatasan penelitian, serta implikasi praktis untuk penelitian selanjutnya.

Abstract

Generation Z adolescents as a group of individuals who know internet technology from an early age have a different autonomy from the previous generations. The autonomy experienced by generation Z adolescents is followed by behavior that is difficult to understand and sometimes misinterpreted as rebellion, for example disagreeing with their parents and doing things without the help of their parents anymore. Based on this phenomenon, this study aims to analyze the meaning of autonomy for generation Z adolescents. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and then analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) technique on four adolescents (19-21 years). Based on the results of the analysis obtained the meaning of independence for generation Z adolescents, namely: (1) efforts to reduce intervention / assistance from parents; (2) differing views with parents; (3) accept the opportunity of parents to make decisions; and (4) the initiative to build work experience.

Abstract

Sekaa Teruna Teruni (STT) is one of the youth organizations in Bali. The achievement of the goals of STT is influenced by various factors, one of which is the participation of organizational members which can arise due to a sense of belonging and conformity. STT membership, which is generally voluntary, causes almost no pressure requiring STT members to be present and active in STT activities, but when viewed from the daily activities in STT, there is a tendency that men take more roles than women. This research is a quantitative study that aims to determine the relationship between a sense of belonging in an organization and conformity, with women's participation in the STT. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling with a total sample of 178 female members who attended STT in Badung, Tabanan, and Gianyar districts. The measuring instrument used in this study consists of three scales, namely, Participation in the STT scale, Sense of Belonging scale, and Conformity scale. The data analysis technique used in this research is multiple correlation test. Based on the analysis of the hypothesis test, the correlation coefficient value is 0.653 with F count as 65,118 and significance 0,000 (p<0,005) which indicates a relationship between a sense of belonging to the organization and conformity with women's participation in STT. The higher the sense of belonging to the organization and conformity, the higher the level of women's participation in STT.
