Abstract

Problems that arise in adolescence include: problems related to physical and motor development, problems related to the development of social behavior, religious morality, and problems associated with the development of emotional personality. Unstable and uncontrollable emotional reactions and expressions during adolescence can have an impact on their personal and social life. Where teens feel depressed and withdrawn or actually behave aggressively. Today teenage life is so alarming. The behavior of free sex, drinking, drug abuse, antisocial, and brawl between gangs became their lifestyle. As happened in the district of Wuluhan Jember. Therefore it needs serious and thorough handling. One of the handling done is with peer counseling, where after peer counseling by the mentor of IPNU-IPPNU cadres for two months there is a significant change of social independence. Where adolescent drug victims are more independent in the social attitude so have the courage to refuse the offer drugs.

Abstract

The increasing number of Bangladeshi female students pursuing higher education abroad reflects domestic challenges, including limited educational quality, restricted employment opportunities, and socio-political conditions that encourage international academic migration. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Bangladeshi female students’ decisions to pursue higher education abroad and to examine the socio-cultural influences shaping their aspirations for international study. The study employed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional survey design involving 200 Bangladeshi female students through questionnaires, convenience sampling, and descriptive SPSS analysis to identify motivations and the influence of socio-cultural norms. The findings reveal two key points. First, Bangladeshi female students are motivated to study abroad by push factors, including political instability, low educational quality, and limited research opportunities, alongside pull factors such as international reputation, self-development, independence, and family support. Second, cultural and social norms influence aspirations differently: Pabna University of Science and Technology students receive stronger support, while University of Dhaka students face greater family resistance despite pursuing independence and global education. This study concludes that Bangladeshi female students perceive overseas education as a strategy to overcome domestic limitations, achieve social mobility, and attain independence through the interaction of push factors, pull factors, and family cultural support. The study contributes to educational policy by emphasizing the strengthening of university roles, family support, and government collaboration in expanding access and motivation for female students to pursue international higher education.

Abstract

The role of Muslim women is often reduced to domesticity, while their social contributions remain marginalized. The figure of Khadījah is therefore important to examine to challenge patriarchal bias and affirm gender agency in early Islamic history from a critical contemporary perspective. This study aims to analyze Khadījah’s role as a Muslim woman who embodied domestic, social, and gender agency in early Islam through the perspective of Fatima Mernissi. This study employs descriptive qualitative library research design, analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis and Mernissi’s gender perspective. The data were drawn from historical sources, biographies, ḥadīth, journal articles, and source triangulation to ensure critical data validity. The findings reveal three main points. First, Khadījah’s domestic role was demonstrated through emotional, moral, material, and spiritual support that strengthened the Prophet’s family and sustained the early prophetic mission. Second, her social role was reflected in solidarity, sacrifice, and public leadership during the Quraysh boycott, which strengthened the resilience of the early Muslim community. Third, from Mernissi’s perspective, Khadījah represents gender agency through patriarchal critique, egalitarian relations, and public participation in early Islamic social transformation. The study concludes that Khadījah represents multidimensional Muslim women’s agency through domestic support, social leadership, and patriarchal critique. This study recommends strengthening historical-critical readings of Khadījah as a model for Muslim women’s empowerment through Islamic gender education, egalitarian family partnership, and broader women’s social participation.

Abstract

Speaking anxiety in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms limits students’ participation and oral proficiency, particularly in polytechnic English for Specific Purposes (ESP) contexts where communicative competence is closely linked to work readiness. This study aims to analyze gender differences in speaking anxiety and group preferences, the relationship between discomfort when speaking before the opposite gender and total anxiety, and lecturer interventions perceived as effective based on students’ gender. The study employed a convergent mixed methods design by integrating a questionnaire adapted from the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) and open-ended questions. Quantitative analysis included Welch’s independent samples t-test, chi-square test, and Pearson correlation, while qualitative analysis used inductive thematic coding with meta-inference at the integration stage. The findings indicate a moderate but statistically significant gender difference, with female students reporting higher levels of anxiety than male students. However, gender was not significantly associated with group preference. Anxiety was triggered by negative evaluation, mistakes, self-monitoring, and concerns about credibility, whereas group preference was shaped primarily by familiarity. Therefore, lecturer interventions should be adaptive: female students require a supportive learning atmosphere and linguistic scaffolding, while male students need sufficient preparation time and gradual participation. The study concludes that EFL speaking anxiety in vocational higher education is not determined solely by gender, but more dominantly by social mechanisms, fear of evaluation, ridicule, loss of credibility, and familiarity within classroom interaction. The study recommends normalizing mistakes, providing protected preparation time, prioritizing constructive feedback, expanding voluntary participation, and conducting longitudinal replications across institutions.

Abstract

The phenomenon of single motherhood in many regions is marked by economic constraints, dual caregiving and breadwinning responsibilities, cultural stigma, and limited formal support, yet family harmony can still be maintained. This study analyzes how single mothers in rural Jombang build harmonious family resilience through multidimensional maternal agency, religious-spiritual resilience, and strategic adaptation to gender norms. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, four weeks of observation, and source triangulation. The data were examined using Braun and Clarke’s reflexive thematic analysis, guided by Ungar’s social resilience framework. The findings reveal three key patterns. First, multidimensional maternal agency emerges from commitment to children, material and emotional support from extended families, and community involvement as socio-ecological resources that strengthen mothers’ resilience in facing socio-economic pressures. Second, religious-spiritual resilience is shaped by participation in religious communities, faith as a basis for life meaning, spiritual togetherness, and the reconstruction of maternal identity as a sacred trust in Islam. Third, agency within constraints is reflected in navigating gender roles, managing culturally rooted stigma, reconstructing family meaning around maternal responsibility, and facing unequal access to socio-ecological resources. The study concludes that rural single mothers’ resilience is formed through maternal agency, faith- and community-based spirituality, and strategic adaptation within structural constraints. Its policy contribution highlights the need to strengthen community social capital, empower religious institutions, and ensure equitable access to resources and social protection.
