Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the healthy school program in SMP Negeri 2 Kalasan. The healthy school program is a program issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture, focused on how schools can develop healthy, safe, child-friendly, and fun school movements. This study used the CIPP evaluation model with a qualitative approach, focusing on the context, inputs, processes, products of the healthy school program. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentary studies. Validity tests were obtained through the triangulation of data sources and techniques. Instrument validity used expert judgment, while data analysis used four steps of Miles and Huberman's model: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion. The findings show (1) in terms of context, SMP Negeri 2 Kalasan is a school designated by the government because it is considered capable and appropriate, and has become a model of adiwiyata schools in Sleman and won national adiwiyata school program competitions; (2) in terms of input, the design of a healthy school program can answer problems related to the input of students who have different healthy living habits; (3) in terms of process, the healthy school program has run well, but it is constrained by funding and revitalizing facilities and infrastructure because it only uses independent funds from the school; (4) in terms of product, the healthy school program at SMP Negeri 2 Kalasan has run following the objectives and has the right to continue the program, although there are still aspects that need to be improved.

Abstract

In thematic analysis, themes construction can be performed manually by the researcher or automatically by a computer. Both methods have strengths and weaknesses. This article introduces a strategy that involves the role of both researcher and computer to construct themes from qualitative data in a rapid, transparent, and rigorous manner. The strategy uses network analysis and is demonstrated by employing a case study on students’ perceptions of online distance learning they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The themes-construction strategy consists of four systematic phases, namely (1) determining unit of analysis and coding; (2) constructing the code co-occurrence matrix; (3) conducting network analysis; and (4) generating, reviewing, and reporting the themes. The strategy is successfully demonstrated in generating themes from the data with modularity value Q = 0.34. The application of network analysis in this strategy allows researchers to automatically generate themes from qualitative data using mathematical algorithms, represent these themes visually using network graph, and interpret the themes to answer the research questions.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to develop instruments for measuring teacher candidates' social competence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (the fourth I.R.) era. The instrument was developed by referring to Indonesian Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers and the Regulation of the Minister of National Education Number 16 of 2007 to strengthen some special competence of teacher candidates in the fourth IR era. Limited instrument testing was carried out to 107 test subjects for the 6th-semester undergraduate education program at Yogyakarta State University, consisting of three study programs: Mathematics Education, Indonesian Language Education, and English Language Education study programs. The results of the content validity analysis of 30 instrument items obtained the Aiken V index between 0.61 - 0.93, with 29 items valid, and one invalid item. The construct validity analysis with EFA showed 25 valid items and five invalid items, with a KMO value of 0.504. The significance of Bartlett's test was p = 0.000. Meanwhile, the construct validity analysis with CFA showed the model fit, with a Chi-Square value = 290.35 (p 0.05). The reliability results show that the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient is 0.40 (moderate category). This shows that the social competency assessment instruments for teacher candidates in the fourth IR era developed are feasible to use, with several improvements.

Abstract

Test fairness becomes an aspect that needs to be considered when developing a test instrument. It is highly recommended that the instrument should not be biased for the test takers by ensuring that they do not behave differently among male and female test-takers. This study aims to examine the extent to which the items in an English proficiency test function differently across gender. Fifty reading items were examined and analyzed using a statistical method for detecting DIF. The items were individually tested for gender DIF using Rasch model analysis with the analysis tool of ConQuest. The results showed that six items were detected for DIF, three of which were basic comprehension items, and the other three were vocabulary questions. Some possible ways of dealing with DIF items were also discussed.

Abstract

The 1945 Constitution states that education is a right for every citizen. Education is a conscious and planned effort to realize the atmosphere of learning and the learning process so that students can develop their potential. Education in Indonesia aims to educate the nation's life. Indonesia's education system in its development continues to make changes. The zoning policy in education is one form of positive response from the government to equalize education in each region. The zoning policy requires each student to go to school the closest distance from their residence. Schools provide about 90% of the student capacity measured by distance. The zoning policy in its development still leaves various problems. A common problem is the unavailability of educational facilities in a sub-district area so that some students have the potential to not go to school. Bekasi City is a metropolitan city that serves as a buffer for the capital city. In its development, Bekasi City has the potential to experience problems of inequality in the number of students and absorption in schools. This study aims to project the number of students and their absorption at various levels of education in Bekasi until 2025.
