Abstract

Background. Feedback is a critical element in sports skill acquisition, directly influencing learning efficiency and performance quality. In basketball, immediate feedback and reinforcement feedback may differently affect the mastery of basic skills. Objective. This study aimed to examine the impact of immediate feedback and reinforcement feedback on learning selected basic basketball skills, to compare post-test results between the two feedback types, and to analyze the development ratio for each skill. Methods. An experimental design was employed involving first-year middle school students at Fayda Secondary School for Boys (academic year 2024–2025). From a population of 166 students, 40 were randomly selected and divided into two experimental groups (n=20 each). Group 1 received immediate feedback, while Group 2 received reinforcement feedback. The training lasted eight weeks, with two 45-minute sessions per week. Skills assessed included chest pass, long pass, free throw, and tapping. Pre- and post-tests measured performance and development ratios. Results. Both feedback types significantly improved skill performance. No significant difference emerged between groups in chest pass and long pass performance. However, Group 2 (reinforcement feedback) outperformed Group 1 in free throw and tapping. Development ratios were high in all skills, with minimal difference between groups for chest pass and long pass, but a marked advantage for Group 2 in free throw and tapping. Conclusions. Both immediate and reinforcement feedback positively influence basketball skill learning, with reinforcement feedback showing greater benefits for more complex skills. The findings highlight the value of tailored feedback strategies in youth basketball training and provide evidence-based recommendations for coaching practices.

Abstract

Background. Swimming performance, particularly in short-distance events such as the 50-meter breaststroke, requires the integration of high physical efficiency, optimal physiological function, and precise technical execution. Objective. This study aimed to examine the effect of using various training methods on selected functional variables—maximum vital capacity (VC), maximum oxygen consumption (VO₂ max), and resting heart rate—and on the competitive performance of male swimmers in the 50-meter breaststroke. Methods. An experimental design with equivalent control and experimental groups was employed, using pre- and post-tests to measure outcomes. The sample consisted of 20 competitive male swimmers, equally divided into two groups. The experimental group participated in an 8-week training program incorporating resistance belts, buoyancy devices, breathing exercises, and complementary dry-land workouts, conducted four times per week. The control group followed a conventional training regimen. Data were collected using standardized tests: a spirometer for VC, a modified swimming test for VO₂ max, a pulse oximeter for resting heart rate, and a digital stopwatch for race completion time. Results. The results revealed statistically significant improvements in the experimental group across all variables, including increased VC and VO₂ max, reduced resting heart rate, and faster race times, with no significant changes observed in the control group. Conclusions. The study concludes that integrating diverse training methods significantly enhances both functional physiological capacity and competitive performance in short-distance swimmers. This research contributes to sports science by providing empirical evidence that a multi-modal training approach can yield superior adaptations compared to traditional methods, offering practical guidance for coaches aiming to optimize athlete performance in sprint swimming events.

Abstract

Background. The integration of advanced technology in sports education has created new possibilities for improving the teaching and learning process of complex motor skills. The triple jump, as one of the technically demanding track and field events, requires precise coordination, rhythm, and execution, making it challenging for students to master through traditional instruction alone. Objectives. This study aimed to design an educational program based on virtual reality (VR) technology and to investigate its effectiveness in enhancing the technical performance of the triple jump among university students. Method. The research population consisted of second-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Kirkuk, during the academic year 2024/2025, totaling 80 students. From this population, a random sample of 36 students was selected and divided into two equal groups: an experimental group (n = 18) taught using the VR-based program and a control group (n = 18) taught using conventional methods. Several students were excluded due to prior experience, failure in the course, incomplete participation, or repeated absences to ensure sample homogeneity. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests assessing technical performance using video analysis. Results. The results show that the experimental group achieved a higher average score (M = 8.36, SD = 0.54) than the control group (M = 5.59, SD = 0.84). The calculated t-value was -11.783 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group. These findings confirm that the use of virtual reality-based education programs is more effective than traditional methods in improving technical performance in long jump among students. Conclusion. The study concludes that VR-based exercises represent an effective approach to teaching the technical components of the triple jump. Accordingly, it is recommended that such technology be adopted in sports education curricula to enhance students’ practical skills and learning outcomes.
