Abstract

Objective: This study explores the implementation of food and cash assistance programs aimed at improving sustainable community welfare from a Sharia economic perspective in Aran Village, East Gorom District, Eastern Seram Regency, Maluku Province. The objective is to critically examine the distribution process and assess the socio-economic impacts of these programs, particularly within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 1 (No Poverty), and Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in concepts of social welfare, equitable distribution of social aid, and the Islamic economic principles of justice (‘adl) and mutual care (ta‘awun), emphasizing the government's role in alleviating poverty through inclusive and ethical means. Literature review: The literature review draws from prior studies on the effectiveness of social assistance schemes, challenges in beneficiary targeting, and the importance of synergy between central and local governments in ensuring program sustainability. Methods: This study employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, field observations, and secondary data analysis from government reports and institutional records. Data were gathered from various community actors, including aid recipients, local administrators, and program implementers. Results: Findings indicate that the distribution of basic food and cash assistance in Aran Village has been relatively well-executed, contributing to short-term relief and partial improvement in community welfare. However, significant challenges remain, including misidentification of eligible beneficiaries, limited budget allocations, logistical constraints due to geographic isolation, and weak inter-agency coordination. From a Sharia economic perspective, these inefficiencies contradict the ethical mandate to uphold justice and prioritize those most in need. Implications: The study concludes that enhancing transparency, refining verification mechanisms, and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation are crucial for achieving more effective, equitable, and sustainable aid delivery. Furthermore, integrating Islamic economic values into policy design can enhance the spiritual and ethical dimensions of poverty alleviation efforts in remote Muslim-majority areas. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its localized focus on a remote region rarely studied in academic literature and its incorporation of Sharia economic insights in analyzing the practical challenges of aid distribution within the SDGs context.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the implementation of Islamic values in conjunction with artificial intelligence (AI)-based deep learning at SMK Negeri 1 Kebumen as a strategic effort to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the domain of inclusive and quality education. Theoretical framework: The research is grounded in an integrative theoretical framework that combines Islamic educational philosophy—centered on tauhid, akhlakul karimah, and ‘ilm nafi’—with modern pedagogical approaches, including Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Merdeka Curriculum. Literature review: The literature review highlights previous findings on the effectiveness of AI in improving student engagement and learning outcomes, while also acknowledging concerns regarding ethical dilemmas, digital dependency, and algorithmic bias. However, limited studies have addressed the intersection between AI, deep learning, and Islamic values in vocational education settings, especially in the context of Indonesian Islamic education. Methods: A qualitative descriptive method was used in this study. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with four Islamic education teachers and nine students from different grade levels, as well as document analysis of teaching modules, digital infrastructure usage logs, and relevant budgeting records. This triangulated approach ensured a holistic understanding of the phenomenon under investigation. Results: Findings reveal that the integration of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and virtual reality technologies significantly enhances student motivation, critical thinking, and participation in Islamic education classes. Lesson designs rooted in Bloom’s Taxonomy foster higher-order thinking skills, while AI tools help contextualize and personalize the learning experience. Nevertheless, the study also identifies potential risks, including over-reliance on AI, lack of ethical literacy, and challenges in maintaining Islamic identity in a tech-driven environment. Implications: This study has important implications for educators and policymakers, underscoring the need to implement AI-driven education within an ethical and religious framework. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its pioneering investigation of how Islamic values can guide and coexist with AI-based pedagogy to promote equitable and quality education aligned with global educational goals.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the optimality of learning by utilizing Chat GPT in Islamic Studies for Scholars courses to help students achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, Goals 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 15 (Life on Land), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Pharmacy students are considered less responsive to Islamic history. This research is important to help students understand the SDGs, which are rarely understood by them. Islamic education for scholars, which mostly focuses on Islamic history, becomes too monotonous if it is only delivered in the classroom. Theoretical framework: Quran Surat al-Jumu'ah verse 10 serves as the theoretical framework for this research. Starting from a theoretical concept, it is then studied in a more practical context or put into practice. Literature review: A review of relevant literature reveals that lectures with practitioners can meet students' needs in understanding SDGs directly from experts. Method: Classroom Action Research is the method used in this study. Specifically, it is experimental and participatory. Innovations include involving practitioners in planning, teaching, and evaluating. Results: Students' lack of responsiveness was addressed by formulating problem-based learning or case studies to improve students' ability to solve problems and group-based projects. Field lectures with assignments to recreate historical sites using Chat GPT were found to increase student enthusiasm. An important finding of the study is that students were made aware of the SDGs by incorporating sustainable messages into the course content. Implications: Students' understanding of SDGs in the “Islam for Scholars” course is enhanced by combining theory and practice, using innovative technology, and encouraging active participation in the course. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of learning content on the History of Islamic Civilization with SDGs. This is still rare in Indonesia and even globally.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to reconstruct Ibn Sina's thoughts on basic education through kuttab institutions, and examine its relevance to the development of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this research uses an approach to Islamic education philosophy, especially Ibn Sina's thoughts on the purpose of education, the stages of learning, and the role of kuttab institutions as the foundation of character and intellectual education. The literature studied includes Ibn Sina's classic works such as Al-Siyasah and Al-Najat, as well as the results of contemporary research on the implementation of Islamic education based on philosophical and spiritual values. Literature review: The main focus is on how the concept of basic education in Ibn Sina's thought can be used as an alternative model to strengthen the quality of Islamic basic education that is inclusive, equitable, and sustainable in Indonesia. Methods: The research method used is a qualitative approach with the type of library research, with content analysis techniques and critical interpretation of primary and secondary texts. Data were collected through a literature review and analyzed hermeneutically. Results: The results of the study show that Ibn Sina's thoughts on kuttab emphasize the importance of morality-based education, intellectuality, and personalization of methods according to the stage of child development. This model is in line with the SDGs indicators, especially the 4th (quality education), 10th (reducing inequality), and 16th (peace, justice, and resilient institutions). Implications: The implication of this study is the need to revitalize Islamic basic education institutions such as kuttab that are oriented to local values and classical philosophies that are relevant to global challenges. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Ibn Sina's classical thought with the paradigm of sustainable development, which has not been widely explored in the study of contemporary Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the social contributions of Kemas Abdullah Azhari (1863–1939), a prominent Islamic scholar from Palembang, in preserving Islamic scientific traditions in the 20th century within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education. Theoretical framework: The research is grounded in Max Weber’s theory of social action, particularly the typologies of traditional, charismatic, and bureaucratic authority, to understand the modalities through which Kemas Abdullah Azhari exerted influence in education, religious life, and social conflict resolution. Literature review: The literature review identifies a gap in historiographical sources that address localized Islamic scholarly traditions in Indonesia, particularly those passed on through oral transmission and community memory. Methods: A qualitative narrative method was employed, using document analysis, in-depth interviews with descendants and local figures familiar with the scholar’s legacy, and ethnographic observation of cultural symbols and institutions related to Islamic education in Palembang. The study also incorporated oral traditions and manaqib treatises, which were transmitted intergenerationally in Pedatuan Village. To ensure data reliability, triangulation was applied throughout the research process. Results: Findings reveal that Kemas Abdullah Azhari played a pivotal role in advancing inclusive religious education and creating spaces for the dissemination of Islamic knowledge, aligning with the goals of SDG 4. His contributions ensured the continuity of Islamic scholarship through informal learning and community-based religious instruction, even in the face of colonial constraints and the absence of formal documentation. Implications: This has significant implications for both heritage preservation and contemporary Islamic education strategies. Novelty: The study’s novelty lies in recovering an underexplored dimension of Islamic intellectual history in Sumatra and highlighting the integration of local religious figures in achieving long-term sustainable educational development.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of constitutional ijtihad in transforming Islamic family law in Indonesia and Egypt within the framework of national legislation, focusing on its contribution to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this research is based on the concept of constitutional ijtihad that integrates Islamic norms with contemporary social standards and human rights, as well as comparative legal theory as an analytical instrument in the development of a just and inclusive legal system. Literature review: The literature review includes a review of Islamic family law reforms in Indonesia and Egypt which include aspects such as the determination of the minimum age of marriage, the obligation to register marriage, the regulation of polygamy, the unilateral restriction of ṭalāq by the husband, the recognition of khuluʿ as a form of divorce by the wife, the legal status of children born during the ʿiddah period, and the renewal of inheritance law through the application of the concept of waṣiyyah wājibah. Methods: This study uses a comparative legal approach to identify similarities and differences in Islamic family law reform in the two countries, taking into account the framework of legal traditions, political contexts, and various interpretations of applicable fiqh. Results: The results show that both Indonesia and Egypt have made progressive adjustments to Islamic family law to improve legal certainty, gender equality, and social justice, albeit through different legal traditions, political dynamics, and sharia interpretations. Implications: The legal transformation in both countries demonstrates a targeted strategy to build an inclusive and equitable legal system, in line with SDG 16, and has the potential to become a model for Muslim-majority countries. Novelty: Presents a comparative analysis of the application of constitutional ijtihad in Islamic family law reform in two countries with different legal and political traditions, which are directly linked to the achievement of SDG 16.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores strategies for shaping children’s social ethics within female migrant families through the lens of Islamic values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework integrates the concepts of social behavior formation in families, character education theory (especially honesty and modeling), and religious education theory in the family context. This is reinforced by the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine strategic priorities in an objective and data-driven manner. Literature review: Literature review findings indicate that female migrant workers, despite limited physical presence, still play a pivotal role in shaping their children’s social ethics through intentional education, values transmission, and exemplary behavior. Prior research emphasizes family-based value education and identifies the need for measurable strategic frameworks such as AHP in prioritizing parenting methods. Methods: This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using purposive sampling. Data were gathered through interviews, observation, document analysis, and structured questionnaires. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), supported by Expert Choice 11 software, was used to prioritize educational strategies based on expert judgments. Results: The results identified three priority strategies: religious education (42.1%)—with emphasis on daily religious values (47.5%); exemplary behavior (43.5%)—highlighting the importance of parents as role models; and honesty education—prioritizing the alignment between words and actions (46.9%). The results were confirmed by a low inconsistency index (0.01), validating the reliability of the findings. Implications: The implications highlight the importance of reinforcing Islamic values in children’s social development, especially in the context of parental absence due to migration. The study provides guidance for mothers and educators to implement practical, measurable, and value-based approaches aligned with Islamic teachings and the SDGs. Novelty: The novelty lies in applying AHP to evaluate parenting strategies in migrant contexts—a method rarely used in character education research.

Abstract

Objective: This study is to determine the implementation of the murabahah contract financing program at BMT Yaa Qawiyyu and BMT Sekawan Klaten and assess its suitability with the murabahah financing theory and fatwa of DSN MUI No. 04/DSN-MUI/IV/2000 regarding murabahah, while also supporting SDG Goal 8 and Goal 1 by encouraging inclusive, ethical, and sustainable financial access. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework used is based on the theory of murabahah contracts in sharia economics and the provisions of sharia law formulated in the DSN MUI fatwa related to the mechanism for implementing murabahah contracts, which also aligns with global development agendas that promote responsible financial practices, as reflected in SDG Goal 16. Literature review: The literature review in this study covers theories about murabahah financing, implementation in Islamic financial institutions, and sharia regulations that regulate the practice, especially those issued by DSN MUI, emphasizing their role in achieving inclusive financial services as targeted in SDG Goal 10. Methods: The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of two research objects, namely BMT Yaa Qawiyyu and BMT Sekawan Klaten, and using primary and secondary data, providing contextual relevance to SDG Goal 17 through collaboration with community-based financial institutions. Results: The results of the study show that the implementation of the murabahah contract in the two BMTs is by the murabahah theory and the provisions of the fatwa of DSN MUI No. 04/DSN-MUI/IV/2000. BMT Yaa Qawiyyu implements a pure murabahah contract, where BMT buys goods first from suppliers, and then sells them to members at agreed prices and profits. In addition, the two BMTs also use the murabahah bil wakalah scheme, where BMT gives power of attorney to members to purchase goods on behalf of BMT, and after the purchase transaction is carried out, the murabahah contract process is carried out with an explanation of the price, profit, and payment terms. Implications: The implication of this study is the importance of understanding and proper application of the provisions of DSN MUI's fatwa in sharia financing operations to remain by sharia principles and provide transparency to customers, which contributes to financial inclusion and ethical financing as envisioned in SDG Goals 1, 8, and 16. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in a specific case study of two BMTs that shows two models of the implementation of the murabahah contract.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to systematically examine the development of interdisciplinary integration of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and its contribution to the achievement of the SDGs, especially SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 16 (peace and justice), and SDG 13 (environmental responsibility). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework refers to the integration of IRE in three main domains: epistemological-philosophical, pedagogical-practical, and institutional-structural, and is associated with the values of sustainable development. Literature review: Previous studies have addressed the integration of Islamic values into science, moderate curriculum, character education, and digital transformation, with the main contributions coming from Indonesia and Malaysia since 2019. Methods: The study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA protocol, as well as bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. Of the 2,083 articles in Scopus, 25 passed the selection. Results: An increase in publications related to IRE integration has been found since 2019. There are eight key indicators of integration classified into the three conceptual domains above. Implications: The results of this study offer a conceptual and practical framework for the development of an IRE curriculum that is adaptive to social and global issues and relevant in supporting the SDGs agenda. Novelty: This study uniquely combines SLR and bibliometric approaches and identifies new classifications of IRE integration practices that are directly associated with the three main SDGs targets.
