Abstract

Objective: This research aims to examine the transformation of the concept of maslahah  in modern Islamic finance, especially in the shift from a normative approach in classical jurisprudence to a contextual approach in the contemporary financial system. Theoretical framework: The research is based on the thoughts of Al-Ghazali, who structured maslahah within the maqashid shariah paradigm (protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property), and Asy-Syatibi, who introduced the flexible concept of maslahah mursalah. Literature review:  involves an in-depth study of classical sources such as Al-Mustashfa and Al-Muwafaqatas well as contemporary literature on Islamic finance and sustainability. Methods: Using a hermeneutic approach, this study analyzes classical and modern texts through literature studies, referring to the works of Al-Ghazali (Al-Mustashfa) and Asy-Syatibi (Al-Muwafaqat) as well as various secondary literature. The results:  The study indicate that the concept of maslahah  has undergone significant development, from a text-based approach to a more flexible application in modern Islamic finance, such as in Islamic banking, green sukuk, and social-based financial instruments. This transformation strengthens the role of Islamic finance in supporting economic sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Implication: the reinforcement of Islamic finance as a value-based system capable of promoting inclusive and sustainable development. Novelty: This research lies in its hermeneutic reinterpretation of classical Islamic legal theory to justify and support its modern, sustainability-oriented applications.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to examine the intellectual biography of KH. Bisri Mustofa, explore the background and format of his moral writings, and analyze the moral concepts in his works in relation to the categorization of moral textbooks used in Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKI). This study also positions his contributions in the context of achieving SDG 4: Quality Education through culturally relevant moral education. Theoretical framework: The study employs an interpretive descriptive approach, combining Islamic education theory and classical moral concepts, supported by theoretical triangulation to ensure data validity. The framework emphasizes the alignment between traditional Islamic scholarship and contemporary educational goals within the SDGs framework. Literature review: The review includes the biography of KH. Bisri Mustofa, an exploration of Arabic Pegon Jawi texts, Islamic perspectives on morality, and the structural categorization of moral textbooks in PTKI. It highlights the underutilized richness of traditional Javanese Islamic literature in current moral pedagogy. Methods: Utilizing a library research method, the study collects data through documentation, processes it through content analysis, and validates findings via theoretical triangulation. Results: KH. Bisri Mustofa emerges as a multidimensional intellectual whose moral books—Ngudi Susila, Mitra Sejati, and Washaya—comprehensively address all major categories of moral education within PTKI, including an additional, rarely discussed dimension: morality in the teaching and learning process. His Al-Ibriz complements these by emphasizing moral obligations to Allah and the Prophet. Implications: This research underscores the relevance of integrating classical Nusantara Islamic texts into the modern PTKI curriculum as a strategy for enhancing moral education aligned with the goals of SDG 4, promoting inclusive, equitable, and culturally grounded learning environments. Novelty: The study presents a novel curriculum-oriented analysis of Arabic Pegon moral texts and maps their suitability to the moral education framework of PTKI. It also identifies a new thematic dimension—educational morality—that is often overlooked in mainstream textbooks.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to critically analyze the inconsistency between Indonesia’s national objectives, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the criminal law policies applied by the Public Prosecutor in cases involving sexual intercourse with minors resolved through marriage. Using Decision No. 6/Pid.Sus/2022/PN. Mre as a case study, the research seeks to formulate a model for legal reconstruction grounded in Islamic law and restorative justice that ensures optimal protection for child victims. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework draws upon progressive legal theory, restorative justice theory, and child protection theory within the criminal justice system. These theories serve as a foundation for understanding the gaps between legal norms and their implementation, particularly in handling cases involving vulnerable victims like children. Literature review: The literature review explores the implementation of restorative justice in juvenile law, the prosecutorial role in minor-related offenses, and the policy discrepancies in protecting children's rights. Previous studies have often overlooked the intersection between cultural or religious practices and legal responses, especially in cases resolved through marriage rather than prosecution. Methods: Employing normative legal research methods, this study uses a legislative, conceptual, futuristic, and case approach to evaluate the legal basis and implications of resolving child sexual crimes through marriage. Results: The findings reveal that resolving such cases via marriage undermines the principles of child protection and justice. It neglects the child’s rights as emphasized in Islamic law and contradicts global commitments under the SDGs, particularly Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The study proposes a legal reconstruction model that reinforces collaboration between law enforcement and prosecutors to uphold restorative justice while ensuring legal certainty and the best interests of the child. Implications: This research contributes novel insights into reforming Indonesia’s criminal law policy concerning children, integrating Islamic legal principles with global human rights standards. Novelty: This study offers a legal reconstruction model of restorative justice child sexual intercourse cases, which balances legal certainty and the protection of children's rights in criminal justice proceedings.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore and describe the strategies for developing Islamic educators to enhance their professional competence in response to global educational challenges and student needs. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in the importance of integrating pedagogical, technological, and managerial competencies to build educators’ capabilities, aligning with contemporary educational theories and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education. Literature review: A review of the literature highlights persistent challenges in the consistent implementation of educator development programs and the gap between existing strategies and the holistic competencies required today. Methods: Using a descriptive qualitative research design, this study was conducted at SMP Islam Bani Hasyim Singosari Malang. Informants included the principal, three vice principals, the chairman of the national exam committee, and teachers of Indonesian, English, Arabic, and religious studies. Results: Findings reveal three core strategies in educator development: First, the Education Strategy, which includes free lectures aimed at broadening educators’ strategic and adaptive thinking; Second, the Educator Training Strategy, which is implemented in three levels to accommodate new educators, enhance existing educators’ skills, and prepare educators for leadership roles; Third, the Strategy of Cultivating and Realizing a Sense of Responsibility, focusing on practical and ethical approaches to professional development. Implications: The implications of this research suggest that a comprehensive, tiered, and responsibility-focused approach can effectively improve educator competence, curriculum relevance, and the quality of learning, thereby supporting the achievement of SDGs. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its integrated framework that combines education, training, and ethical responsibility cultivation tailored to Islamic educational institutions, offering a sustainable model for educator development in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Objective: Adolescence is a transitional phase that is vulnerable to behavioral deviations, including Juvenile Delinquency, which is now a global and national social problem. In this context, Islamic education plays an essential role as a means of moral and spiritual development that can rehabilitate problematic adolescents. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this article combines the principles of Islamic education that include faith, sharia, and morals with the concept of inclusive education in SDG 4 and the social reintegration approach as the basis for character development and rehabilitation of ex-juvenile delinquents through communities such as KOPIKA. Literature review: Previous research has confirmed that Islamic education effectively prevents juvenile delinquency by forming character, strengthening self-control, and instilling moral values that shield from negative environmental influences. Methods: This qualitative research is field research conducted to uncover the contribution of Islamic education at KOPIKA in fostering ex-juvenile Delinquency perpetrators. Results: The results of the study show that KOPIKA has various non-formal Islamic coaching programs, such as Bikers Subuhan, Mas Bro, Sini Ramal, Algojo, Sinabung Kopi, Punk-Ngaosan, Hijrah Camp, and Silatu Ride. These programs contribute to increasing worship, bringing members closer to the Qur'an, and shaping members' social identity and concern. This initiative is relevant to SDG 4 because it brings inclusive and transformative education to vulnerable groups through a contextual and sustainable approach. Implications: These findings have important implications for strengthening the role of non-formal Islamic education in the social rehabilitation of troubled adolescents, as well as encouraging the creation of an inclusive, transformative, and sustainable education ecosystem by SDG 4 targets. Novelty: This research offers novelty in examining the contribution of community-based Islamic education to the rehabilitation of troubled adolescents and its relevance to the achievement of SDG 4.

Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to find and analyze the phenomenon of productive land management through the concept of cooperation carried out by the community in the Kuta Baru area, Tebing Tinggi Suddistrict, Serdang Bedagai district, North Sumatra in the study of maslahat. Theoretical framework: This study refers to the concept of maslahat in Muamalah Fiqh  and the principles of syirkah and muzara’ah in Islamic economics which emphasize justice, benefit, and sustainability. Literature review: This study refers to the views of classical and contemporary scholars and the hadiths of the Prophet SAW which are the legal basis and practice of syirkah (cooperation) in Islam, such as musyarakah, muzara’ah, and Musaqah, as well as the concept of mashlahah as its normative basis. Methods: The research was conducted through descriptive qualitative study based on welfare with primary data collection through interviews and observations. Interviews were conducted with the village government and several community leaders. Results: The results of the study show that many of the people in this area manage productive land cooperatively between family members to manage the land both to fulfil the economy, living needs and others, both through agricultural cooperation agreements and general business cooperation. This action is an effort to maintain and preserve local culture by continuing to care for agricultural land so that it continues to be fertile and produces benefits for many people. Implications: This finding encourages the need for local policies that support productive land management based on Sharia cooperation, and to strengthen the economic institutions of village communities based on Islamic values. At the same time, this practice supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 8, SDG 10, and SDG 15. Novelty: This research lies in an integrative approach between the values of welfare, local culture, and Sharia economic practices in the context of agrarian management, which has not been widely studied before. The alignment between Islamic values and global development goals provides a unique and contextual framework for sustainable rural development.

Abstract

Objective: The main objective of this study is to find out whether the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Program can accommodate maximum services for students in madrasas and to uncover the background of high interest in students attending madrasas. Theoretical framework: Refers to the SDGs framework in education that emphasizes equal access, equality, and inclusive development, as well as an approach to educational services based on the religious vision of madrasas. Literature review: The literature review includes previous studies that discuss the role of madrasah in social development, parental involvement in education, the relevance of SDGs to local education, and the influence of socioeconomic factors on student participation in madrasas. Methods: Qualitative descriptive research through observation, documentation, and interviews at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ta'mirul Islam Surakarta, with data triangulation analysis. Results: The results of the study showed that students' interest in madrassas was quite high, but not fully supported by their parents, especially related to the burden of financial responsibilities such as educational contributions and the cost of student activities. Nevertheless, the madrassas studied have carried out their role as educational institutions that prioritize a good educational process and are well accepted by the community. Implications: These findings show the need for synergy between madrasas, government, and society to support the implementation of the SDGs, ease the burden on parents, and strengthen the role of madrasas as spiritual and social educational institutions. Novelty: This study highlights the relationship between SDGs implementation and student interests, as well as the challenges of parental support, with an emphasis on the power of the religious vision of madrasas in providing inclusive and humanistic education.
