Abstract

This study examines the use of presuppositions in Instagram comments, applying Yule’s (1996) theory to explore how presuppositions shape online interactions. Presuppositions, which rely on shared knowledge, facilitate efficient communication by indirectly implying truths. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to identify presuppositions and classify their types. Key findings suggest that existential presupposition is the most common, contributing to brevity, engagement, and emphasis. Case studies from the @savagecomedy account illustrate how presuppositions enhance information that is not explicitly stated within a given context. This research highlights the evolving role of language in digital spaces and suggests further investigation into presupposition strategies across social media platforms.

Abstract

This study investigates the phonological, morphological, and semantic aspects of spontaneous speech in a four-year-old child, aiming to uncover developmental patterns and common linguistic challenges during early language acquisition. Employing a qualitative case study approach, naturalistic data were collected through audio and video recordings of the child's daily conversations. The transcribed speech was analyzed to examine articulation, word formation, and meaning construction. The findings revealed systematic phonological processes such as consonant substitution (/r/ to /l/), simplification of consonant clusters, and omission of final consonants. Morphological observations included frequent use of reduplication and overgeneralized application of the derivational suffix -in. Semantically, the child demonstrated an emerging lexicon with early signs of conceptual confusion and limited categorical differentiation. These developmental characteristics suggest that while the child is actively internalizing language rules, the acquisition process remains error-prone and exploratory. The study highlights the importance of meaningful interaction, corrective input, and exposure to rich linguistic environments in supporting children’s language growth. The insights gained are relevant for parents, educators, and speech-language practitioners in designing age-appropriate strategies that nurture early communicative competence.

Abstract

This case study investigates early language acquisition in a four-year-old Indonesian child by analyzing her spontaneous speech within a psycholinguistic framework. Utilizing naturalistic data collected from two audio recordings of child–adult interaction, the study focuses on three core linguistic domains: phonology, morphology, and semantics. Through a qualitative descriptive approach and content analysis, the research identifies systematic phonological processes such as substitution (e.g., /r/ realized as /l/), productive morphological usage including compound numerals and possessive affixation, and emergent semantic constructions involving narrative structure, emotional vocabulary, and abstract concepts like time, negation, and causality. The findings reveal that the child's speech patterns reflect age-appropriate developmental milestones and align with established psycholinguistic norms. Furthermore, the study highlights the critical role of social interaction and contextual conversation in facilitating language growth. By documenting linguistic behaviors in an Indonesian context, this research offers culturally specific insights that enrich the global understanding of language development. The study underscores the importance of naturalistic observation in capturing children’s cognitive strategies and supports its continued use in early language research

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the anxiety disorder experienced by the main character in the novel Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. The novel describes the journey of an introverted teenager named Cath who faces various challenges in college life, social relationships, and the process of self-discovery. The main focus of this research is how the symptoms of anxiety disorder are displayed in Cath's character and how environmental factors and past experiences affect her psychological condition. This study uses a literary psychology approach with anxiety disorder theory as the main foundation. The method used is descriptive qualitative analysis, with data collection techniques through in-depth reading and identification of anxiety signs in the narrative. The results show that Cath experiences various symptoms of anxiety disorder, such as excessive fear in social situations, a tendency to avoid interactions, and a negative mindset that affects her confidence. In addition, the novel also shows how support from family, friends, and writing activities can help Cath in dealing with her anxiety. This study contributes to the study of literary psychology and mental health studies in adolescent literature, by highlighting how anxiety disorders are represented in works of fiction.
