Abstract

In contemporary digital media, news headlines function not only as informational summaries but also as strategic discourse units that shape readers’ interpretation and engagement. One prominent feature of such discourse is sarcasm, which enables implicit evaluation and critique through indirect linguistic expression. However, the role of recurrent phraseological patterns in constructing sarcastic meaning remains underexplored. Drawing on corpus linguistics, particularly the lexical bundle framework proposed by Douglas Biber, this study examines how recurring multi-word sequences contribute to sarcasm in digital news headlines. This research adopts a corpus-assisted discourse analysis approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The dataset consists of 500 sarcastic headlines (250 from The Onion and 250 from HuffPost) obtained via Kaggle. The corpus was analyzed using AntConc to extract lexical bundles of three to five words based on frequency thresholds. The findings reveal that stance expressions constitute the dominant category (48%), followed by discourse organizers (30%) and referential expressions (22%), indicating that sarcasm is primarily constructed through evaluative language and implicit judgment. Comparative results show that The Onion employs more explicit and stylized sarcasm, while HuffPost demonstrates a more subtle and context-dependent use. This study concludes that lexical bundles function as key linguistic resources for encoding sarcasm and evaluative stance in digital discourse.

Abstract

Digital transformation has reshaped the landscape of scientific knowledge production, distribution, and legitimation. In the context of Indonesian Muslim society, Islamic groups are increasingly engaged in digital spaces; however, such engagement does not necessarily translate into substantive participation in scientific development. This article analyzes the patterns of participation of Islamic groups in scientific development through digital publications in Central Lampung Regency using a qualitative case study approach with thematic analysis. The empirical basis of this study relies on in-depth interviews with 25 key informants, representing 5 members from each organization, and a comprehensive analysis of digital artifacts, including official websites, social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp groups), YouTube channels, and electronic journals managed by the groups. The study maps the participation of Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Salafi, LDII, and Jama’ah Tabligh based on three main indicators: development of digital resources, online forum activities, and digital science publications. By integrating Saskia Sassen’s perspective on digital space as a global social infrastructure, Manuel Castells’ concept of the network society, and Beth Simone Noveck’s notion of collaborative knowledge-based participation, the article demonstrates that digital participation among Islamic groups occurs in hierarchical and non-linear forms. The main findings reveal disparities in digital participation that are not solely driven by technological access but are primarily influenced by differences in organizational orientation toward knowledge, institutional capacity, and the ability to manage sustained digital interaction. This article seeks to offer an interpretive schema for understanding the digital participation of local Islamic groups in scientific development, thereby providing a localized perspective on the sociology of religion and science.

Abstract

This study examines the process of adapting Nizami Ganjavi's classic Persian narrative poem Layla Majnun into an adaptation film directed by Monty Tiwa (2021), with an emphasis on the ideological implications of the narrative transformation that occurs. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with comparative analysis techniques, this study analyzes changes in plot elements, characters, and settings. The results of the study show that the process of subtraction, addition, and variation is not just a technical strategy in adaptation, but functions as a mechanism of cultural domestication that fundamentally changes the meaning of love in stories. The omission of mystical and tragic elements such as the removal of the character of Nowfal and the change in the final story from death to happiness shows a shift from a theocentric and transcendental concept of love to an anthropocentric and realistic one. Thus, the film transforms an original allegorical-spiritual narrative into a contemporary romance discourse that emphasizes individual agency, emotional reality, and social relevance. This study confirms that ecranisation is a form of ideological reconstruction that allows classical values to be redefined according to the context and expectations of modern audiences.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of price fairness, F&B product quality, and physical environment quality on customer satisfaction, as well as their effects on repurchase intention and recommendation intention in the context of CW Coffee & Eatery. The increasing competition in the coffee shop industry highlights the importance of understanding factors that drive customer loyalty and positive behavioral outcomes. A quantitative explanatory approach was applied using data from 384 respondents selected through non-probability sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) to examine the relationships among variables and test both direct and indirect effects. The results show that price fairness, product quality, and physical environment quality each have a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction. In addition, all three variables significantly influence both repurchase intention and recommendation intention. Customer satisfaction is also found to significantly mediate all relationships between the antecedent variables and behavioral intentions, indicating partial mediation effects. These findings imply that customer loyalty in coffee shop settings is shaped by both direct perceptions of service attributes and indirect effects through satisfaction as a psychological mechanism. Practically, maintaining fair pricing, consistent product quality, and a comfortable physical environment is essential to strengthen both repurchase behavior and word-of-mouth intention. The originality of this study lies in the integrated model that simultaneously examines three experiential factors and their dual effects on repurchase intention and recommendation intention through customer satisfaction in a single coffee shop context.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of collaborative governance in handling rape cases in Banda Aceh City, Indonesia. The increasing number of reported cases, alongside persistent challenges in evidence collection, victim trauma, and institutional coordination, underscores the need for an integrated multi-stakeholder approach. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method through in-depth interviews with two key institutional informants representing DP3AP2KB through UPTD PPA and the Banda Aceh Police. The interview findings were supported by documentary triangulation consisting of institutional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), referral records, service statistics, and Case Conference reports. The findings indicate that, from the perspectives of the two institutional informants, collaboration in rape case handling is perceived as relatively structured and functional through the existence of formal coordination mechanisms, facilitative leadership, inter-agency communication, and a relatively clear distribution of institutional roles. These institutional arrangements are perceived to support more coordinated victim assistance, legal processes, and access to psychological and social services. Nevertheless, several challenges remain evident, including limited human resources, administrative constraints, and difficulties in obtaining accurate information from traumatized victims. Since the findings primarily reflect institutional perspectives, they do not comprehensively represent survivor experiences or the perspectives of non-governmental organizations, healthcare providers, and other external actors. This study concludes that strengthening institutional capacity, improving coordination mechanisms, and expanding survivor-centered support services remain essential for enhancing the sustainability of collaborative governance in rape case handling.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges and the role of village governments in integrating local wisdom, customary law, and national law in East Kupang District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Using an empirical legal research method with a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving village heads, traditional leaders, and community members. The findings show that integration is hindered by limited public understanding of local wisdom and customary law, the absence of formal recognition of customary institutions through village regulations, and legal uncertainty regarding communal land rights. Globalization and modernization have also reduced the relevance of customary norms among younger generations. Village governments play significant roles as facilitators, mediators, and institutional supporters of customary law recognition within the national legal framework. They facilitate stakeholder dialogue, mediate disputes related to customary land and legal practices, and support the preservation of local cultural values through village governance mechanisms. Based on these findings, the study proposes a village-based legal integration model that includes public education, participatory mapping of customary institutions and communal land rights, village regulations recognizing customary practices, village-level dispute resolution forums, involvement of traditional leaders, and district government supervision. The study highlights the importance of participatory and inclusive approaches to integrating customary and national legal systems and recommends strengthening legal recognition, public awareness, and policy support from regional and central governments.

Abstract

This study examines how diversification opportunities beyond surfing are experienced and interpreted by tourism actors in the development of coastal sport tourism in Pesisir Barat. Method: A qualitative phenomenological approach was used through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document review conducted across Tanjung Setia, Labuhan Jukung, Mandiri, and Pulau Pisang. Nine informants representing business actors, sport communities, government agencies, media promotion, and local residents were involved. Findings: The findings show that diversification is emerging through beach-based activities such as fun runs and beach volleyball, calm-water marine opportunities such as snorkeling and related marine trips, and land-based nature extensions such as jungle trekking and waterfall visits. However, these opportunities remain uneven and conditional because their feasibility depends on safety systems, community-based organizers, basic infrastructure, realistic seasonal reading, and stronger governance coordination. Conclusion: Beyond-surfing development should not be understood as a replacement of the surfing core, but as a selective destination portfolio strategy that can widen tourist demand, extend local value creation, and strengthen coastal tourism resilience.

Abstract

Indonesia is located in a region with high seismic activity. The high frequency of earthquakes in Indonesia poses significant challenges for designing earthquake-resistant building structures. This condition worsens when buildings experience significant degradation in concrete strength, thereby reducing structural ductility. This study aims to evaluate the seismic performance of existing buildings designed under old regulations (SNI 1726:2002 and SNI 2847:2002) and exhibiting significant concrete strength degradation. The method used in this evaluation is based on ASCE 41-17 using a Tier 3 linear procedure with response spectrum analysis. The building evaluated is a 6-story laboratory building located at the University of Indonesia. This modeling was carried out using several concrete degradation scenarios (30, 25, 20, and 15 MPa). The parameters evaluated are structural drift and DCR using the BSE 2E earthquake level. Based on the global performance, there is an increase in structural drift in the x and y directions, so that the Life Safety (LS) performance limit of 2% is not met. Then, the DCR value increased for deformation-controlled and force-controlled actions, resulting in a higher percentage of beam and column components failing to meet the Life Safety (LS) performance target. For beam components, critical conditions for flexural and shear performance are found on the lower floors. For column components, critical conditions for flexural and axial performance are found on the lower floors. Meanwhile, critical conditions for shear performance are found on the middle floors. Therefore, critical elements requiring special attention can be properly identified, thereby facilitating the planning of structural strengthening.

Abstract

This study purposed to examine the correlation between anime-watching habits and Japanese grammar (bunpou) achievement among students enrolled in a Japanese Language Study Program. This study applied a mixed-methods approach using an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 20 students from the Japanese Language Study Program at Universitas Widyatama and analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation coefficient. Qualitative data were obtained from open-ended questionnaire responses and analyzed thematically to complement the quantitative findings. The results revealed no statistically significant correlation between anime-watching habits and grammar achievement (r = 0.002; p = 0.992), indicating that anime exposure does not directly influence students’ formal grammar performance. Nevertheless, the qualitative findings showed that anime contributes positively to students’ motivation, interest, vocabulary development, and cultural awareness in learning Japanese. Although anime-watching habits do not significantly contribute to Japanese grammar achievement, anime serves as an important motivational resource that encourages students’ engagement with Japanese language learning. Therefore, anime may be integrated into language instruction as a complementary learning resource rather than a primary means of grammar acquisition.

Abstract

This study examines whether Supreme Court Circular Letter (SEMA) No. 1/2022, which restricts bankruptcy petition authority against cooperatives exclusively to the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, is compatible with Law No. 37/2004 on Bankruptcy and Law No. 25/1992 on Cooperatives through legal hierarchy theory and access to justice principles. Method: Using statutory, conceptual, and case-based approaches, this normative legal research analyzes constitutional provisions, statutes, court decisions, and comparative frameworks from Germany and the Netherlands. Findings: The findings demonstrate that SEMA No. 1/2022 constitutes an ultra vires action violating the lex superior derogat legi inferiori principle by creating substantive norms contradicting Article 2(1) of the Bankruptcy Law. The restriction diminishes creditors’ constitutional right to access justice under Article 28D (1) of the 1945 Constitution while creating conflicts of interest in ministerial authority. PKPU (Penundaan Kewajiban Pembayaran Utang or Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations) petition authority is similarly affected. Comparative analysis reveals that Germany and the Netherlands maintain creditor standing while implementing procedural modifications protecting cooperative interests. Conclusion: This study proposes a Parallel Authority Model preserving creditor standing while enabling ministerial participation through notification and intervention mechanisms.
