Abstract

Introduction: Water is a primary and basic human need. One of the chemical parameters that must be met for drinking water needs is mineral content, such as calcium and magnesium. Water hardness is a condition in which there is excessive calcium and magnesium content, which is commonly known as calcareous water. High water hardness that exceeds normal limits can interfere with body health if consumed long-term. Specifically, excess calcium in the body can cause hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, kidney stones, and muscle tissue damage (muscle weakness). Objective: This study aims to determine blood calcium levels in individuals who consume calcareous healthy water. Methods: The type of research used is descriptive-analytical, with blood calcium level analysis carried out using the Ion Selective Electrode (ISE) method through the Electrolyte Analyzer (CBS400). Result: Based on the results of the study, it was obtained that blood calcium levels in 30 community respondents in Ranomeeto District (100%) were above the reference value, indicating high blood calcium levels. Conclusion: blood calcium levels in people who consume lime juice indicate high blood calcium levels. Consuming water with a high lime content can hurt health. Therefore, people need to consider the quality of the drinking water they drink, especially those that have a high lime content, to maintain heart and kidney health in the long term.

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is a period of growth and puberty; adolescents are very concerned about appearance, so they pay attention to their diet until they are strict. This causes the intake needed to be unmet, then impacts the menstrual cycle and anemia. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between nutritional status, the menstrual cycle, and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. Method: This research is an analytic observational study. The approach in this research is cross-sectional. The population is 447 female students aged 13-15; the sample is 83. Sampling using consecutive sampling. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire to determine the menstrual cycle, measure height and weight, and measure Hb levels with digital tools. Results: This study uses the Spearman Rank test formula value 0.05. The results of nutritional status with menstrual cycles were 0.016 < 0.05, and then significant results were obtained; on nutritional status with anemia, the results were 0.00 < 0.05, then substantial results were obtained, and the results of menstrual cycles with anemia were 0.06 > 0.05 then the result is not essential. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a relationship between nutritional status and the menstrual cycle and anaemia, but there is no relationship between the menstrual cycle and anaemia. Optimal nutritional status, including adequate iron intake, is essential for maintaining menstrual health and preventing anemia. Nutrition interventions and health education on the importance of balanced nutrition can be a practical step in supporting women's reproductive health.

Abstract

Introduction: Women of childbearing age have a higher risk of vaginal discharge than adolescents because of the frequent occurrence of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). One of the symptoms of reproductive organ infections in women is vaginal discharge. Objective: This study aims to apply midwifery care to cases of vaginal discharge (flour albus). Methods: A descriptive method with a case study approach is used. Data was collected through primary data, including assessing and observing the patient's health status, interviews to obtain subjective data, and direct examination for objective data. Secondary data was obtained through patient records, registered books in the KIA room, and literature studies. Result: The results showed that the symptoms of vaginal discharge in patients included thick white mucus, unpleasant odor, and itching in the genital area. The care provided uses red betel leaf water decoction as a treatment effort. After obstetric care was carried out from July 16 to 20, 2024, the results were obtained that the patient's vaginal discharge improved without signs of genetic infection. Conclusion: The success of this care is also marked by an increase in patients' understanding of good personal hygiene, how to properly clean the feminine area from front to back, and the effective use of red betel leaf boiled water. Thus, the management of obstetric care applied to this case of vaginal discharge is quite successful and practical, with a decoction of red betel leaves providing a positive effect in reducing the incidence of pathological vaginal discharge.

Abstract

Introduction: Using medicinal plants in Indonesia still needs to be optimized. Almost all parts of the Kawista plant have been traditionally used to treat various ailments such as antioxidants, antidiabetic, wound healing, and controlling uric acid levels. Existing research on Kawista fruit peel as an acne antibacterial includes studies on the ethyl acetate extract of Kawista fruit peel against Propionibacterium acnes, which falls into the moderate to strong category. In Indonesia, Kawista fruit is limited to the flesh and is used to make syrup and dodol (a traditional sweet). In contrast, the fruit's peel remains a waste product. Objective: This study aims to develop a formula for an ethyl acetate extract ointment of Kawista fruit peel (Limonia acidissima L.) as an antibacterial agent against Propionibacterium acnes with good physical quality. Methods: The fruit peel extract was obtained using the maceration method with 96% ethanol. The extract was then formulated into ointment preparations with concentration variations of 6.25% (F1), 12.50% (F2), and 25% (F3). The physical stability tests for the ointment included organoleptic parameters, homogeneity, spreadability, and pH value tests. The data were analyzed to determine the effect of the extract concentration and storage time on the ointment's physical stability. Result: The test results showed that the ointment formulation of Kawista fruit peel extract (Limonia acidissima L.) could be successfully formulated into an ointment form and met the required evaluation criteria, including organoleptic testing, homogeneity testing, pH testing, and spreadability testing. Conclusion: Based on the study, it can be concluded that the Kawista fruit peel extract ointment (Limonia acidissima L.) can be successfully formulated into an ointment and meets the required evaluation criteria, including organoleptic testing, homogeneity testing, pH testing, and spreadability testing. A skin irritation test is required to determine whether any irritation occurs after applying the ointment.

Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a common condition in women during menstruation, characterized by severe pain that can interfere with daily activities. The administration of medical therapy is often used to treat these symptoms, but natural approaches such as giving young coconut water are also starting to be considered. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of giving young coconut water in reducing pain intensity in dysmenorrhea patients and provide an overview of the application of natural therapy-based obstetric care in patients with menstrual complaints. Methods: This study uses a case study design with a qualitative approach. The subject of the study was an adult woman who experienced primary dysmenorrhea. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and assessment of pain intensity using the VAS (Visual Analog Scale) scale before and after administering young coconut water. Result: The study showed a significant decrease in the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain after administering young coconut water. Before the administration of therapy, patients reported pain intensity at level 8 (scale 0-10), and after three days of administration of young coconut water, pain intensity decreased to level 3. Patients also reported feeling more comfortable and being able to continue their daily activities better. No significant side effects were found related to the consumption of young coconut water. I am injuring kei three mestiuia such does not feel jealous, the nature of the blood of meirah can bioactivity deingan good to know the absence of the current suidah in the absence of good. Conclusion: Giving young coconut water can be effective in reducing the symptoms of dysmenorrhea in patients who experience it. This therapy can be a safe and natural alternative to help relieve menstrual pain. It can be applied in obstetrics as part of a comprehensive approach to reproductive health care. Further research with larger samples is needed to reinforce these findings and explore the mechanism of action of young coconut water in dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Introduction: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a prevalent condition among adolescent girls, characterized by physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms that may impair daily functioning and quality of life. Despite its high prevalence, evidence on comprehensive, non-pharmacological interventions targeting PMS in adolescents, particularly in school-based settings, remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ginger phytotherapy in reducing PMS severity among adolescent girls. Research Methodology: A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Makassar, Indonesia, between January and February 2026. A total of 50 participants were recruited through purposive sampling, of whom 46 completed the study. PMS severity was assessed using DSM-IV-TR–based criteria before and after intervention. Participants received ginger decoction 2–3 times daily for 7 days before menstruation, following a standardized protocol. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with effect size calculated. Multivariate analysis was performed using ordinal logistic regression. Statistical significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: There was a significant reduction in PMS severity following the intervention (Z = −2.81, p = 0.005; r = 0.41). The proportion of participants with mild PMS increased from 10.9% to 78.3%, while the proportion with severe PMS decreased from 10.9% to 0%. Multivariate analysis showed that ginger phytotherapy significantly reduced the likelihood of higher PMS severity (OR = 0.16; 95% CI: 0.04–0.58; p = 0.006). Conclusion: Ginger phytotherapy is an effective and feasible non-pharmacological intervention for reducing PMS severity among adolescents. Its integration into school-based health programs may support menstrual health management in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Urban transit operators, including bus drivers, train operators, and metro personnel, are chronically exposed to biomechanical stressors and ergonomic hazards predisposing them to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), whole-body vibration (WBV)-related spinal pathology, and psychosocial morbidity. To systematically identify, critically appraise, and synthesise biomechanical and ergonomic assessment outcomes among urban transit operators worldwide. Research Methodology: This systematic review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and used the PICOS framework. English-language studies published between 2000 and 2024 were retrieved from PubMed, Medline, Embase, Scopus, Global Health, and Google Scholar. Quality appraisal employed the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. Narrative synthesis was applied due to methodological heterogeneity, which precluded meta-analysis. Results: Of 312 identified records, 45 Cross-Sectional studies from 23 countries (n = 12,859 workers) met the inclusion criteria. Bus drivers comprised 52% of the study population. The predominant outcome domain was MSDs (31%), followed by WBV exposure (24%), psychosocial and fatigue outcomes (18%), postural risk (11%), ergonomic risk assessment (9%), and occupational injuries (9%). Low back pain (LBP) prevalence ranged from 43% to 78%. WBV exposures frequently exceeded the 0.5 m/s² Exposure Action Value under EU Directive 2002/44/EC. Quality appraisal rated 60% of studies as low risk, 31% as moderate risk, and 9% as high risk of bias. Conclusion: Urban transit operators represent a high-risk occupational group for biomechanical and ergonomic hazards. Standardised longitudinal studies, objective exposure assessment, and equitable geographic representation are urgently needed to inform globally applicable prevention guidelines.

Abstract

Introduction: Suboptimal adherence to self-care remains a persistent challenge in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), particularly in community settings where daily disease control largely depends on patients’ behavioral practices. While family support is often considered influential, its relative contribution compared with other factors remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the determinants of family support and assess its impact on self-care behavior among patients with T2DM. Research Methodology: A community-based, cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted involving 125 patients with T2DM, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated instruments assessing family support and self-care behavior. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, bivariate tests, and multivariable logistic regression to identify independent predictors, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Results: High family support was significantly associated with better self-care behavior (adjusted OR = 3.35; 95% CI: 1.65–6.80; p = 0.001). Higher educational level was also independently associated with improved self-care (AOR = 2.03; 95% CI: 1.01–4.09; p = 0.047). Other variables, including age, diabetes duration, and comorbidities, were not statistically significant in the adjusted model. Conclusion: Family support is the strongest determinant of self-care behavior among patients with T2DM in community settings. Integrating family-based approaches into diabetes management programs may enhance adherence to self-care and improve long-term outcomes. Health policies should prioritize family-inclusive interventions as part of comprehensive diabetes care.

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder often associated with aggressive and violent behavior, which can negatively impact patient safety and quality of care. Non-pharmacological interventions such as progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) are increasingly used to manage behavioral symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of PMR therapy in reducing violent behavior among schizophrenia patients. Research Methodology: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 29 schizophrenia patients with violent behavior selected using purposive sampling at a regional psychiatric hospital in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected using an observation checklist. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare pre- and post-intervention scores. Results: The mean score of violent behavior significantly decreased from 7.86 (SD = 2.386) at pretest to 3.14 (SD = 1.156) at posttest. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that PMR therapy effectively reduces violent behavior in schizophrenia patients. Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation is an effective, safe, and practical non-pharmacological intervention to reduce violent behavior in schizophrenia patients. It can be integrated into psychiatric nursing care to improve emotional regulation and patient outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired insulin function leading to hyperglycemia. Psychological stress and anxiety may exacerbate glycemic dysregulation. Complementary therapies such as the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) have been proposed to address both psychological and physiological aspects of DM. This study aimed to determine the effect of SEFT on blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Research Methodology: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control-group design. A total of 30 participants were recruited using purposive sampling and allocated into an intervention group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The intervention group received SEFT therapy, while the control group received standard care. Blood glucose levels were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test for within-group comparisons and an independent t-test for between-group differences, with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: In the intervention group, there was a significant reduction in blood glucose levels after SEFT therapy (mean difference = 8.01; 95% CI: 2.22–13.22; p=0.016). In contrast, the control group showed no significant change (mean difference = −2.55; 95% CI: −5.69–0.51; p = 0.071). Between-group analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in post-intervention blood glucose levels (mean difference = 17.61 vs 10.62; p = 0.03), indicating the effectiveness of SEFT. Conclusion: SEFT therapy significantly reduces blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This intervention may serve as a complementary non-pharmacological strategy to improve glycemic control by addressing psychological stress. Integration of SEFT into diabetes management programs is recommended
