Abstract

ABSTRACT Organic waste from food and beverage can be degraded by microbes. The sludge from food industries still contains nutrition such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. One attempt to process and utilize the sludge is to reuse it as the growth medium for Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot, which is known to have high nutritional value for fish or livestock feed. This research used ice cream industrial sludge as maggot feed. The problem of using the ice cream industrial sludge for maggot feed is the odour that pollutes the environment. Biosorption is a technique for deodorizing waste sludge using organic materials. This research was conducted to obtain the most effective ratio of biosorbents from fermented manure (PKN), compost (K), and calcium carbonate animal shells (Ca) to remove odours by reducing N-ammonia and sulfide in ice cream industrial sludge using biosorption techniques. The effect of biosorbent used for BSF (Black Soldier Fly) maggot feed on maggot growth was also observed. The most effective biosorbent composition in reducing odor, N-ammonia, and sulfide of the sludge was K:Ca:Sludge (1:1:3) with adsorption time of 48 hours and the percentage reduction of 85.0%. However, the number and size of maggot with PKN:K:Sludge (1:1:3) growth media were higher than K:Ca:Sludge (1:1:3). The ratio of PKN:K:Sludge (1:1:3) was proven to increase maggots' growth to provide benefits for farmers in increasing maggot production both in number and size. Sludge dari limbah industri makanan masih mengandung bahan-bahan nutrisi seperti karbohidrat, protein, dan lemak. Salah satu usaha untuk mengolah dan memanfaatkan sludge tersebut adalah dengan menggunakannya kembali sebagai media pertumbuhan maggot Black Soldier Fly (BSF) yang diketahui sangat tinggi kandungan nutrisinya untuk bahan pakan ikan atau ternak. Penelitian ini menggunakan limbah organik dari industri es krim sebagai pakan maggot. Masalah yang ditimbulkan dari pemanfaatan limbah sludge industri es krim untuk pakan maggot adalah bau yang mengganggu dan mencemari lingkungan. Biosorpsi merupakan salah satu cara untuk menghilangkan bau (deodorisasi) pada limbah sludge. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan rasio biosorben pupuk kandang fermentasi (PKN), kompos (K) dan kalsium karbonat dari cangkang hewan (Ca) yang paling efektif dalam menghilangkan bau dengan menurunkan N-amonia dan sulfida pada limbah sludge industri es krim melalui teknik biosorpsi. Pengaruh biosorben yang digunakan untuk pakan maggot BSF juga diamati terhadap pertumbuhan maggot. Rasio K:Ca:Sludge (1:1:3) dengan waktu adsorpsi 48 jam merupakan rasio yang lebih efektif untuk menurunkan bau, N-amonia, dan sulfida pada sludge dengan presentase penurunan 85,0%. Akan tetapi, jumlah dan ukuran maggot hasil panen dengan media pertumbuhan PKN:K:Sludge (1:1:3) lebih besar dibandingkan dengan K:Ca:Sludge (1:1:3). Rasio PKN:K:Sludge (1:1:3) terbukti dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan maggot sehingga memberi manfaat bagi peternak dalam meningkatkan produksi maggot baik secara jumlah dan ukurannya. Abstract

ABSTRACT Biomass as raw material is one solution that can be developed in the management of agricultural, plantation, and industrial waste. The utilization of biomass-derived from waste can help reduce pollution and environmental pollution. This research was conducted to make Silicon Carbide (SiC) adsorbent from wood biomass using Sengon sawdust as a source of carbon and non-wood biomass, namely coconut husk, as a source of silica. SiC adsorbent is applied for ammonium adsorption, which has implications on reducing ammonia gas from wastewater, reducing odor. The research methods included isolation of silica and carbon, the production of SiC adsorbent by magnesiothermic reduction, and the characterization of SiC adsorbents with XRD and SEM-EDX. Adsorption capacities of SiC to ammonium were determined according to SiO2:C adsorbent ratios (1:3 and 5:3), adsorbent mass variations, and ammonium concentrations in simulated wastewater using the spectrophotometric method. The results showed that SiC could be used as an adsorbent because there are pores on the surface structure. The optimum SiO2:C adsorbent ratio in adsorbing ammonium was 1:3 (SiC 136) with 45% adsorbed ammonium and an adsorption capacity of 0.47 mg/g. The optimum adsorbent mass in adsorbing ammonium was 0.1 g with 41.77% adsorbed ammonium. The optimum concentration of ammonium in simulated wastewater for ammonium adsorption was 20 mg/L with 46.25% adsorbed ammonium. The adsorption isotherm pattern during the ammonium adsorption process follows the Freundlich isotherm, which means that the adsorption process occurs physically. Keywords: adsorbent, adsorption, ammonia, biomass, coconut husk, SiC   ABSTRAK Biomassa sebagai raw material merupakan salah satu solusi yang dapat dikembangkan dalam pengelolaan limbah hasil pertanian, perkebunan, dan industri. Pemanfaatan biomassa yang berasal dari limbah dapat membantu mengurangi tingkat polusi dan pencemaran lingkungan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membuat adsorben Silikon Carbida (SiC) dari biomassa kayu yaitu memanfaatkan serbuk gergaji kayu Sengon sebagai sumber karbon dan biomassa non kayu yaitu sabut kelapa sebagai sumber silika. Adsorben SiC diaplikasikan dalam penjerapan amonium yang berimplikasi pada potensi penurunan gas amonia dari air limbah sehingga adsorben SiC berpotensi mengurangi bau dalam air limbah. Metode penelitian meliputi isolasi silika, isolasi karbon, pembuatan adsorben SiC secara reduksi magnesiotermik dan karakterisasi adsorben SiC dengan XRD dan SEM-EDX. Penentuan daya adsorpsi SiC sebagai adsorben terhadap variasi rasio adsorben SiO2:C (1:3 dan 5:3), variasi massa adsorben, variasi konsentrasi limbah simulasi menggunakan metode spektrofotometri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa SiC dapat digunakan sebagai adsorben karena terdapat pori-pori pada struktur permukaan. Variasi rasio adsorben SiO2:C optimum dalam mengadsorpsi amonium ialah SiC 136 dengan amonium teradsorpsi sebanyak 45% dan kapasitas adsorpsi sebesar 0,47 mg/g. Massa adsorben optimum dalam mengadsorpsi amonium ialah 0,1 g dengan amonium teradsorpsi 41,77%. Konsentrasi optimum limbah simulasi dalam adsorpsi amonium 20 mg/L dengan amonium teradsorpsi 46,25%. Pola isoterm adsorpsi selama proses adsorpsi amonium mengikuti isoterm Freundlich, yang berarti proses adsorpsi cenderung terjadi secara fisika. Abstract

ABSTRACT In the area of North Tapanuli Regency, a special economic zone for Taman Bunga Tourism will be developed; so that in the future this area will require large amounts of clean water for consumption and water tourism facilities. In order to anticipate this water demand, a research was carried out to determine the feasibility of Lake Toba water in the North Tapanuli Regency area for drinking water raw water and water tourism infrastructure. This research was carried out with in-situ observations and water sampling for analysis in the laboratory according to the procedures of ISO 5667-6:2014 and ISO 5667-3:2012. This study suggests that Lake Toba water in the North Tapanuli Regency area is not yet suitable to be used as raw water for drinking water and water tourism infrastructure because it still has parameters of BOD, COD, Iron, and Barium that do not meet (exceed) the water quality criteria; according to Attachment Number VI to Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management Keywords: Lake Toba, North Tapanuli, raw water, water recreation, water quality standard.   ABSTRAK Di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli utara akan dikembangkan kawasan ekonomi khusus Pariwisata Taman Bunga, sehingga pada saatnya nanti kawasan ini akan memerlukan air bersih dalam jumlah besar untuk konsumsi dan sarana wisata air. Dalam rangka mengantisipasi kebutuhan air tersebut maka dilaksanakan penelitian untuk mengetahui kelayakan air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara untuk air baku air minum dan sarana prasarana wisata air. Penelitian dlaksanakan dengan pengamatan in-situ dan pengambilan sampel untuk analisis laboratorium sesuai prosedur ISO 5667-6:2014 dan ISO 5667-3:2012. Penelitian ini mengisaratkan bahwa air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara tidak layak untuk dijadikan air baku air minum dan sarana prasarana rekreasi air karena masih memiliki parameter BOD, COD, total fosfat, besi, dan barium yang tidak memenuhi nilai baku mutu yang berlaku. Untuk memanfatkan air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara diperlukan upaya penurunan konsentrasi parameter-parameter tersebut. Abstract

Pada tahun 2008, Republik Indonesia mengeluarkan Undang-undang No. 18 tentang Penegelolaan Sampah. Tujuan dari undang-undang ini adalah: 1) seluruh Tempat Pemrosesan Akhir (TPA) sampah di Indonesia harus memakai sistem sanitary landfill. 2) pemerintah daerah dapat membentuk kerjasama pengelolaan sampah di hilir dengan membentuk sebuah TPA Regional dengan melibatkan masyarakat dan investor.  Tujuan ini sulit dicapai karena beberapa kendala yaitu terbatasnya anggaran, sulitnya menentukan pemerintah daerah mana yang sebaiknya bekerjasama, dan institusi seperti apa yang sebaiknya bertanggung jawab untuk mengelola TPA regional tersebut. Dengan menggunakan Technique For Order Preference Similarity To Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), penelitian ini menentukan wilayah mana saja dari 8 (delapan) kota dan kabupaten di JABODETABEK yang bekerjasama untuk membentuk TPA regional di TPST Bantargebang. Hasil TOPSIS menyimpulkan bahwa Kota Bekasi adalah alternatif terbaik untuk memakai TPST Bantargebang dengan nilai Ci+ mendekati 1. Hal ini juga berarti bahwa alternatif Kota Bekasi berjarak terpendek terhadap solusi ideal dan berjarak terjauh dengan solusi negatif-ideal. Alternatif terbaik kedua adalah Kabupaten Bekasi, sedangkan alternatif terbaik ketiga adalah Kabupaten Bogor. TPST Bantargebang dapat dikembangkan menjadi sebuah TPA regional dengan perluasan lahan sebesar 25 ha, menaikkan ketinggian landfill menjadi 30 meter, dan ketinggian jarak trap 3 meter, faktor konversi volume 1000 kg sampah sama dengan 3 m3, faktor pemadatan 50 persen dan faktor reduksi alami sampah sebsar 30 persen. Dengan kondisi tersebut TPST Bantargebang masih dapat menerima tambahan sampah sebesar 2.422 ton per hari sampai 15 tahun ke depan.

Abstract

High amounts of black liquor wastewater are generated from bioethanol production by using oil palm empty fruit bunches. It contains an alkaline solution (NaOH), so it is quite toxic for aquatic ecosystems if discharged directly into waters. Black liquor has been treated by coagulation method, and it still needs additional treatment. This study aimed to determine degradation of black liquor wastewater by selected white-rot fungi (WRF). Five different strains of WRF have been tested for their ability to decolorize black liquor on agar and liquid media. Out of five fungi studied, two fungi, Ceriporiopsis sp. and Phanerochaete chrysosporium, showed the capacity to grow more than 50% on agar medium. In liquid medium, the percentage of decolorization of 15,000 ppm coagulated and diluted black liquor ranged from 70 to 89% at 30 days depending on the fungal strain. Ceriporiopsis sp. showed the better ability to decolorize black liquor than P. chrysosporium. The performance of Ceriporiopsis sp was evaluated regarding decolorization of black liquor, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and mycelial dry weight both in coagulated black liquor and original black liquor. The color of original and coagulated black liquor can be decolorized up to 90.13 and 86.85%, respectively. COD in original and coagulated black liquor was reduced up to 70.17 and 40.09%, respectively. The presence of coagulant Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) inhibited degradation of black liquor by fungus. The result demonstrated that Ceriporiopsis sp has a potential alternative to treat black liquor wastewater.
