Abstract

General Background: Earnings management remains a critical concern in financial reporting, especially in sectors with high capital intensity like property and real estate. Specific Background: In Indonesia, such practices are increasingly scrutinized due to inconsistent findings regarding the roles of tax planning, deferred tax burden, leverage, firm size, and institutional ownership. Knowledge Gap: Few studies explore the moderating effect of profitability on these variables in earnings management, particularly in the post-pandemic period. Aims: This study investigates the influence of tax planning, deferred tax burden, firm size, leverage, and institutional ownership on earnings management, with profitability as a moderating variable, using 549 firm-year observations from 183 IDX-listed companies (2020–2023). Results: Results show leverage and deferred tax burden significantly affect earnings management. Profitability moderates the effects of deferred tax burden, leverage, and institutional ownership, while it has no moderating effect on tax planning or firm size. Novelty: This study provides new insights into the contingent role of profitability in shaping earnings management behaviors in emerging markets. Implications: The findings contribute to refining financial governance strategies, guiding investor risk assessments, and informing regulators on industry-specific supervisory frameworks that enhance financial reporting transparency.Highlight : Profitability as Moderator – Profitability affects the strength of the relationship between key financial factors and earnings management. Sector Focused – The study targets property and real estate companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange. Tax and Leverage Role – Tax planning and leverage significantly influence earnings management practices. Keywords : Earnings Management, Profitability, Moderating Variable, Property and Real Estate, Indonesian Stock Exchange

Abstract

Background: Usually manifesting in early childhood, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts social communication and behavior. Objectives: The present study aims to contribute to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through my research on assessing parents’ knowledge and awareness of its symptoms and management strategies. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 100 parents (both fathers and mothers) of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to assess their knowledge of ASD symptoms, management strategies, and awareness levels. The sample was collected from the My Family Center for Autism in Basrah city. The questionnaire was distributed to the parents and collected approximately one week later. The collected data were then analyzed statistically, yielding the following results. Results: It was found that 80% of the parents had a moderate to good level of knowledge regarding ASD management strategies, while 20% had poor knowledge. For ASD symptoms, 75% showed moderate to good awareness, and 25% had poor understanding. The ratio of correct to incorrect answers per parent was approximately 3:1 for both parts of the questionnaire. Conclusion: Most parents demonstrated acceptable knowledge about ASD management strategies, and also most showed sufficient awareness of its symptoms. However, the remaining parents with lower knowledge levels require targeted educational programs to improve their understanding and support for children with autism spectrum disorder. Highlights: High parental awareness of ASD symptoms and management was observed. 75–80% of parents had moderate to good knowledge levels. Educational programs are needed for parents with low ASD awareness. Keywords: Knowledge, Awareness, Parents, Children, Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

Background: Hemoglobinopathies are increasingly recognized as a global public health concern, with β-thalassemia major and sickle cell disease posing significant health burdens, particularly in southern Iraq. Specific Background: In response, eight Middle Eastern countries, including Iraq, have implemented mandatory premarital screening and genetic counseling programs to mitigate the transmission of inherited blood disorders. Knowledge Gap: However, limited data exist regarding the prevalence and types of hemoglobinopathies detected through such screening in Basrah province. Aim: This study aimed to determine the frequency of hemoglobinopathies among individuals undergoing premarital screening in Basrah. Results: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 384 randomly selected participants screened between February and June 2018. Females comprised 53.7% and males 46.3% (mean age: 22.8 ± 7.78 years). The prevalence rates were: β-thalassemia trait (2%), sickle cell trait (1.8%), sickle cell anemia (0.2%), sickle-thalassemia (0.5%), Hb D (0.1%), and Hb C (0.2%). A statistically significant association was found between hemoglobinopathies and both consanguinity (33.7%) and positive family history. Novelty: This study provides region-specific epidemiological data on hemoglobinopathies identified through premarital screening. Implications: Findings underscore the need to strengthen genetic counseling and raise awareness about consanguinity-related risks to reduce hereditary blood disorders in the region. Highlight: Beta thalassemia trait was the most common disorder detected. Consanguinity showed significant correlation with hemoglobinopathies. Premarital screening is vital for early genetic risk detection. Keywords: Premarital Screening, Premarital Counselling, Hemoglobinopathy, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia.

Abstract

The development of digitalisation has had a significant impact on industry dynamics, particularly in driving the transformation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In this context, corporate identity design serves not only as a visual element but also as a strategic representation for building a strong and memorable company image in the minds of consumers. This study aims to evaluate the influence of corporate identity design on company image at CV. Nova Tritama, an SME in Bojonegoro Regency engaged in food production. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with a case study method, employing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of the rebranding process. The results of the study indicate that corporate identity design plays a crucial role in enhancing brand recognition, strengthening perceptions of professionalism, and building positive brand equity. A strong visual identity has proven to facilitate consumers in recognising, remembering, and trusting products, thereby directly contributing to improved competitiveness and market confidence in SMEs.

Abstract

General Background: Traditional patriarchal norms in Indonesian society have long dictated gendered parenting roles, positioning fathers primarily as providers. Specific Background: However, since the early 2000s, digitalization, shifting family structures, and national gender equality discourse have catalyzed changes in paternal involvement. Knowledge Gap: Despite increasing awareness, few studies comprehensively explore how Indonesian millennial fathers reconcile traditional masculinity with modern parenting expectations in diverse cultural contexts. Aims: This study investigates the evolving parenting roles of millennial fathers amid the cultural tension between traditional norms and contemporary gender equality values. Results: Findings indicate a significant increase in fathers’ emotional and physical engagement in child-rearing, though role strain persists due to lingering patriarchal pressures and inadequate policy support. Novelty: This study offers a nuanced synthesis by integrating sociological and psychological perspectives, mapping out identity negotiations, and examining structural and cultural enablers and barriers for millennial fathers. Implications: The research highlights the necessity for structural reforms and inclusive policy frameworks that support father involvement as a norm, thereby advancing equitable family dynamics and child well-being within Indonesia’s shifting sociocultural landscape.Highlight : Millennial fathers in Indonesia are increasingly involved in emotional and daily caregiving, negotiating between traditional masculinity and modern egalitarian ideals. Role strain often emerges due to conflicting expectations between cultural norms and evolving gender roles. Social media and national policies play a vital role in supporting and reshaping paternal engagement in childcare.
