Abstract

This study is aimed at finding  out factors  that determine  the effectiveness  of training processes  factors   that  determine  the  effectiveness  of  training  results.  The study used an ex-post facto  design. A total  of  60 participants  took part  in the study. Datat analysis was done in percentages.   The research finding  shows that factors  such as participants,  trainers, training materials, and working environment play significant roles in the training process; factors  such as participants,  trainers, training materials and  working   environment   affect  the  training   result  with  the finding   notes:   (a) trainees'  do not only significantly  influence  the training  result through  the training process,  but they also have direct  irifluence to the training  result;  (b) the instructors and training materials contribute the training result indirectly; and (c) working environment   does  not  only  significantly   influence  the  training  result  through  the training process,  but it also gives direct irifluence to the training result.

Abstract

This research  study  was  aimed  at  developing  reading  tasks for autonomous  learning for  grade X students  of Senior High School 1 Sleman to  help   the  students   improve   their   reading   skills   independently.    This research  was a Research  and Development  study  that included  the steps  of needs    analysis,    course    grid    design,    product     development,    product validation,  product   revision,  try-out,  and study  of  the final  product.   This research developed five  units of reading tasks for  autonomous  learning.  The reading  tasks  were  developed  according  to  the  needs  analysis  data.  The need  of  grade  X  students   of  Senior  High  School 1 Sleman   in  learning reading  autonomously   is to  improve  their  reading  skills.  the  appropriate reading  tasks for  autonomous  learning are that they give clear instructions, describe  the  language  skills  clearly,  look  nice,  give  a  lot practice,   give feedback   and give  answers  or  let  the  learners  know  how  to complete  the tasks,  give  examples  and  tell  the  learners  how  to  learn  best.  The  needs­ related appropriate  reading tasks for  autonomous  learning  in terms of their components   that  are:  the  goal  of  learning   reading   autonomously   is  to improve the students'  reading skills;  the input presents  interesting pictures; the procedure  presents   interesting  and  enjoyable  activities;   the  learners' role is as the active reader; the teacher's  role is the feedback  giver; and the setting  is individual  work.  The components  of appropriate  reading  tasks for autonomous  learning  in terms of their organisations  are arranged  into four stages,   namely   introduction,   activities,   self-assessment,    and  check  your achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ideas of multicultural education from principals, teachers, students, and students' parents. Their ideas and under­ standings are explored to obtain a description of practices by principals, teachers, students, and students' parents to implement multicultural education in the school life. This study employed the qualitative method. It used the naturalistic inquiry. The  research  subjects  comprised principals,  teachers,  students,  and students' parents in SMP Maria Immaculata Yogyakarta and SMP 5 Yogyakarta. They were selected by means of the purposive  and snowball sampling techniques. The data were collected by means of three techniques, namely observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The research instrument was the researcher herself. The data trustworthiness was enhanced through the triangulation technique, including source  and  data  triangulations.  The  data  were  analyzed  using  the qualitative data analysis by Miles Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. After  the investigation of the life in the two schools, the following  conclusions are drawn. 1) Principals,  teachers, students, and   students'   parents    have   awareness   and   understanding   of   individual differences. 2) The conceptualization of the awareness is manifested in the values to   develop,   namely   no   discrimination,   understanding   of   other   people's perceptions, avoidance of stereotypes, attempts for  equality, realization of justice, mutual acceptance, mutual respect, mutual tolerance, empathy, communication, affection, family atmosphere, brotherhood, and tolerance.

Abstract

This research aimed at observing and describing the processes and the results of the actions implemented in improving the ELT classroom interaction of the gh grade students of MTs NW Hikmaturrahim,  Lombok Tengah. This research was a collaborative action research study. The subjects were the English teacher and the gh grade students of MTs NW Hikmaturrahim, Lombok Tengah in the academic year of 201112012. There were two steps in conducting this research, namely reconnaissance and action. The research instruments used in this study were  observation sheets  and  questionnaire. The data  were  collected through observation and questionnaire. The results of the research are as follows. After implementing the  group-work,  reward-punishment, and  visual  media  as  an integrated teaching-learningstrategy in two cycles, the students were not afraid in speaking, all groups felt  brave to speak with the English teacher or with other students, almost all of the students were active in the classroom interaction with the English teacher or with other students, the students were more motivated to study than before, it could overcome the students' laziness to study, and, the students were interestedin the ELT process.

Abstract

This study is aimed at finding  out the comparasion between students' activities in industrial practice  and the curriculum of industrial practice.  The study was a survey.  The population  consisted of students  of the Engineering Faculty taking industrial practice  in 2011. A sample of 268 students was used. The results of the study show that all the activities of industrial practice of all study programs have suitable correspondence with the curriculum of industrial practice.  On assistancy side, industry used discussion, supervision, and giving material as the methods of assistancy. The majority of the industries made use of the discussions that went on when students put up questions to supervisors.

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding  out: (1) the types of grammatical errors in the narrative writing of the first grade students of SMA 6 Yogyakarta, and (2) the causes of the grammatical errors in their narrative writing. The study was a case study. The participants were 30 students of the first  grade students of Senior High School Six Yogyakarta in the academic year of 201112012.  The study comprised five  steps, namely collection of data, identification of errors, quantification of errors, description of errors, and explanation of errors. The research instrument was in the form  of a writing assignment. The data were obtained from  the students' writing works. The results of the study were as follows.  First, fourteen  types of the grammatical errors of the students'  narrative writing were found concerning  verb tenses, finite  verbs,  non-finite verbs, pronouns,  prepositions,  spelling, agreement of singular and plural, punctuation,  contexts of usage, contexts of meaning, redundancy, word choices, word orders, and unintelligibility. Second, the verb tense errors occupied the first  rank (24.47%), followed  by the pronoun errors (11.56%),  and the finite verb errors (10.51%).   Third, five  types of the causes of errors were: (1)  interference in copulative verbs, word orders, verb tenses, and article usages; (2) ignorance of rule restrictions in articles, relative clauses, causative verbs, and verb + gerund constructions; (3) incomplete application of rules in prepositions, verb phrases, subjects of the sentence, and objects of the sentence; (4) false  concepts hypothesized in past verb tenses, non-finite verbs,  agreement  of  the  singular  and plural,  and  adverbs  of  degree;  and (5)  over­ generalization in irregular past verbs, articles, verb phrases, and plural nouns.

Abstract

The study is aimed at (1) describing   how the building process  of a virtual reality CNC can perceive  input and react as a real CNC machine, and (2) showing the results of of the real CNC machine as used as a programming learning media. The study involved 16 students of the Faculty of Engineering as the research subjects. Data collection method was conducted in a span of four months of effective face-to-face  class activities. Data collection took place in the CNC lab of the Faculty of Engineering,  UNY Results of the study show (1) the students are interested and excited to use the virtual CNC which provides  a visual effect of environment of CNC machine in the monitor, actively trying the simulation of numpad virtual in the monitor, inputting data on the panel virtual, and making simulation  or  execution  of  the  CNC program  at  CNC Machine Simulator, (2) the students practice to make and execute the CNC programming individually in the classroom or outdoor class. And (3) CNC Virtual can be used as teaching and training media classically (in classroom), individually learning, even E-Iearning.

Abstract

This study is aimed at designing as well as producing  an integrated briefcase  model  as  a  teaching  aid  in  the  teaching  of  digital  electronics practicum  and  its feasibility.   This study  can  be  classified  as  research  and development study. It was conducted in the Electronics Engineering Education Department and State  Vocational School 2 Yogyakarta. The teaching aid was developed  through: conducting  needs analysis,  designing,  implementing,  and testing.  The  testing  was  carried  out  twice  covering  the performance   and feasibility.  The data were collected by using questionaires  distributed  to the users.  The students  of SMK Negeri 2  Yogyakarta were the   subjects  of  the research. In this study the data were analyzed  descriptively. The study findings showed  that  the  teaching  aid  could  be  realized  and  meet  the  competence required in the digital electronics subject. The score obtained from  the content validity test was 90% (categorized as very feasible).  The score of the material validity was 80% (categorized as feasible).  The score of the feasibility  in terms of the material aspect was 42% (categorized as feasible).  The technical aspect was scored 69.83% (categorized as feasible).
