Abstract

This study was motivated by the increasing complexity of challenges in higher education, reflected in the limited objectivity in students’ thinking and the weakening of inclusive attitudes in responding to information flow and social diversity. This condition indicated the need for an integrative approach that not only emphasized cognitive aspects but also incorporated ethical dimensions in character formation. The study aimed to analyze the synergy between scientific literacy and wasathiyah values in shaping students’ inclusive and objective character. A descriptive qualitative approach with a meta-analysis design was employed, focusing on scientific articles published between 2019 and 2025 from reputable databases. Data were collected through systematic digital documentation, while content and thematic analysis techniques were applied for data analysis. The findings revealed that scientific literacy contributed to the development of critical and objective thinking, while wasathiyah values strengthened moderate and inclusive attitudes. The integration of both aspects resulted in a more holistic student character. This study contributed to the development of an integrative conceptual framework linking epistemic and ethical dimensions in higher education and offered practical implications for character-based curriculum development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of students’ character and morality through a critical examination of Imam Al-Ghazali’s thoughts on the philosophy of education and their relevance to contemporary educational issues. The study employs a qualitative approach with a critical literature review design focusing on Imam Al-Ghazali’s major works and recent research findings (2020 - 2025) related to character education. This study utilizes a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data collection was conducted through literature review. The data obtained were analyzed using content analysis techniques to interpret the meaning and substance of Imam Al-Ghazali’s educational philosophy. The research findings indicate that Imam Al-Ghazali’s educational concept emphasizes a balance between the mastery of knowledge and the cultivation of noble character. The core of the discussion is that the purpose of education is not only focused on attaining worldly happiness but also happiness in the hereafter. Furthermore, this article examines the moral and ethical values emphasized by Imam Al-Ghazali in the character-building process. The implications of this research provide a conceptual contribution to the development of education, particularly Islamic education in Indonesia, which is oriented toward character, moral, and holistic development.

Abstract

Curriculum is the core of the educational system that plays an important role in instilling religious values and shaping students’ character. Amid technological developments and social changes, the implementation of a religious values-based curriculum needs to be evaluated to remain relevant to modern educational demands. Previous studies have mainly focused on curriculum design and learning outcomes, while comprehensive evaluations of the implementation of religious values-based curricula remain limited. This study aims to evaluate curriculum implementation using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) model through a qualitative approach involving interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the curriculum has been designed to integrate religious values into learning activities and school culture; however, its implementation still faces challenges related to teachers’ pedagogical competence, the use of technology, and the consistency of applying religious values. In addition, students demonstrate good religious understanding, although character strengthening and adaptation to technological developments still need improvement.

Abstract

Using Theo Van Leeuwen’s critical discourse analysis model and Islamic perspectives, this study aims to examine the ethics of crime reporting on women in online media. The study focuses on the news coverage of a woman’s murder in Pekanbaru published by Kompas.TV. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through documentation, including reading, note-taking, coding, and identifying the representation of social actors within news texts. Data analysis was conducted systematically through the classification of exclusion and inclusion strategies in representing victims, perpetrators, and authorities in the news discourse. The findings reveal that Kompas.TV applies exclusion and inclusion strategies to construct social actors in crime reporting. From an Islamic perspective, news ethics should prioritize the principles of qaulan sadidan and qaulan ma’rufa, while avoiding slander and the exposure of disgrace that may degrade human dignity. The study also indicates that media representations emphasizing victims’ emotional aspects demonstrate that news reporting is not entirely neutral and significantly influences public opinion and social perception.
