Abstract

Digital transformation has become an integral aspect of progress in Islamic education, particularly in the teaching of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at madrasas. This study aims to comprehensively describe the impact and significance of digital transformation in improving students' learning outcomes in PAI at MTsN 6 Hulu Sungai Utara, as well as to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with a case study design, the research collected data through field observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that digital transformation positively influences the effectiveness of PAI learning. Teachers have started to utilize digital platforms such as E-learning Madrasah, Google Classroom, and Qur'an Digital applications to enhance interaction and student participation. Learners demonstrated increased motivation and comprehension, although several challenges remain, including limited internet access, inadequate digital tools, and unequal digital literacy levels. The discussion highlights that the success of digital transformation largely depends on teachers' readiness as digital facilitators, institutional infrastructure support, and students' active engagement in using learning media. This transformation also drives a paradigm shift from conventional teaching methods toward more contextual, creative, and collaborative learning models. The study concludes that the implementation of digital technology in PAI learning at MTsN 6 Hulu Sungai Utara significantly contributes to improving both learning outcomes and educational interaction quality. Nevertheless, continuous professional development for teachers and institutional policy support are essential to ensure that digital transformation proceeds effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

The digital era has transformed the practice of Qur'anic literacy, shifting it from traditional mediums to digital platforms. While enhancing accessibility and efficiency, this transformation potentially diminishes the spiritual values that are central to Islamic education. The knowledge gap lies in the absence of a conceptual framework that holistically integrates technological advantages with the preservation of spiritual values. This qualitative library research analyzed primary and secondary sources to address this gap. The findings reveal that: (1) digital platforms revolutionize learning methods but potentially weaken sacred and communal dimensions; (2) virtual communities emerge that adapt traditional values; (3) an integrative framework was identified where technology serves as a means (wasilah) rather than replacing the teacher's role. The research concludes that reorienting spiritual values is not about rejecting technology, but rather positioning it within Islamic ontological and axiological frameworks. Practically, these findings offer a blended learning model for basic Islamic education that combines digital applications with direct teacher guidance, while opening space for developing digital spirituality measurement tools in future research.

Abstract

Educational tools play a strategic role in supporting the success of Islamic education. Educational tools are not limited to material aspects such as facilities and learning media, but also include non-material aspects such as social interaction, teacher authority, and educational punishment. This study aims to examine the concept of Islamic educational tools and to describe the forms of material and non-material educational tools from the perspective of Islamic educational thought. This research employs a library research method by analysing books and academic journals relevant to the research topic. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analysed using data collection, data reduction, data display, and data verification stages. The findings indicate that Islamic educational tools encompass all facilities, actions, and situations that are consciously utilised to achieve the objectives of Islamic education, namely forming individuals who are faithful, pious, knowledgeable, and possess noble character. Islamic educational tools are classified into two categories: material tools, including educational facilities and learning media, and non-material tools, including social interaction, teacher authority, and educational punishment. Both types of educational tools complement each other and play an essential role in shaping students' holistic personality.

Abstract

Students are a central element in Islamic education, which is aimed at the comprehensive development of the whole person. In educational studies, student development is understood through various paradigms, including nativism, which emphasises innate factors; empiricism, which emphasises the influence of the environment and experience; and convergence, which combines these two factors. On the other hand, Islamic education has a unique concept of human nature, namely fitrah as a sacred basic potential bestowed by Allah SWT since birth. This article aims to examine the paradigm of student development based on the perspectives of nativism, empiricism, and convergence, as well as to analyse its relevance to the concept of fitrah in Islamic education. This study uses a qualitative approach through library research by analysing relevant books, journal articles, and scientific sources. The results show that each paradigm makes an important contribution to understanding student development, but has limitations when viewed in isolation. The concept of fitrah in Islamic education complements these three paradigms by emphasising that student development is the result of the interaction between innate potential, environment, and guidance from divine values. These findings confirm that Islamic education should ideally integrate all these aspects in a balanced manner so that the development of students' fitrah can take place optimally, in intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions.

Abstract

The Islamic educational environment plays a strategic role in shaping the personality, character, and religious beliefs of students. The educational environment is not only understood as the physical space where the learning process takes place, but also encompasses non-physical dimensions such as values, culture, traditions, and a religious atmosphere that influence the continuous development of individuals. This article aims to conceptually examine the concept of the Islamic educational environment and its various types based on the perspective of Islamic education. The study focuses on the concept of the three centres of education, namely the family environment, school or madrasah, and community. The family environment is understood as the main foundation in shaping children's morals and character, schools play a role as formal institutions that develop the intellectual, moral, and spiritual aspects of students, while the community becomes a social space for the actualisation of Islamic values in real life. The results of the study show that these three educational environments are closely related and must work together harmoniously so that the objectives of Islamic education can be achieved optimally. A conducive and religious Islamic educational environment is expected to produce a generation that is faithful, knowledgeable, noble in character, and responsible in social life.

Abstract

Grammar mastery plays a crucial role in developing students’ English proficiency; however, grammar instruction in junior high schools is often perceived as abstract and disengaging. Many students experience difficulties in understanding possessive pronouns due to traditional rule-based teaching methods that lack contextual relevance and meaningful application. This study aimed to improve seventh-grade students’ understanding of possessive pronouns through the implementation of the Contextual Learning Approach (CLA) at SMP Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar. This research employed a qualitative Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles involving 32 students of class VII-5. The data were collected using tests, observation sheets, field notes, interviews, and documentation. The implementation of contextual learning activities emphasized real-life situations, such as identifying ownership through classroom objects and personal belongings, to help students construct grammatical understanding meaningfully. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ grammar mastery and classroom engagement. The students’ mean score increased from 60.06 in the pre-test to 83.25 in the final test, while the percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criterion (70) improved from 37.5% to 90.6%. Qualitative findings indicated increased motivation, participation, confidence, and collaboration among students during the learning process. In conclusion, the Contextual Learning Approach effectively enhanced students’ understanding of possessive pronouns by linking grammatical concepts to real-life contexts. The study implies that contextual-based grammar instruction can create more meaningful, interactive, and student-centered learning environments, and it is recommended for teaching other grammatical topics in junior high school.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in learning English, as it enables students to understand written texts effectively and construct meaning from what they read. One of the main viralslot problems faced by junior high school students is difficulty in identifying the main idea of a text, which often results in poor overall comprehension. This difficulty is commonly caused by students’ limited reading strategies and lack of guided support during the reading process. Therefore, an effective instructional strategy is needed to help students improve their reading comprehension skills. This study aimed to improve students’ ability to identify main ideas through the implementation of the Guided Reading strategy at Grade VIII of SMP Swasta Teladan. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting stages. The participants of this study were 30 eighth-grade students. Data were collected using reading comprehension tests, observation sheets, and field notes. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension after the implementation of the Guided Reading strategy. The mean score increased from 61.2 in the pre-test to 82.0 in the post-test of Cycle II. Furthermore, the percentage of students who achieved the minimum mastery criterion (70) increased substantially from 13% in the pre-test to 93% in the final test. Observation results also indicated that students became more active, motivated, and confident during reading activities. In conclusion, the Guided Reading strategy was effective in improving students’ ability to identify main ideas and enhancing their overall reading comprehension.
