Abstract

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of cyber pathologies in the digital era—such as cyberbullying, hate speech, privacy breaches (doxxing), and digital exclusion (cancel culture)—reflects a crisis of empathy and amorality driven by moral relativism and the erosion of users’ spirituality. This study aims to examine how the principles of Islamic morality can be actualized as standards of digital ethics (netiquette) to address this moral crisis. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research, this study examines primary sources from the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as contemporary literature on digital sociology published within the last five years (2022–2026). The findings indicate that Islamic morality provides a normative-pragmatic framework through the internalization of the principles of muraqabah (awareness of divine oversight), ṣidq (data integrity and honesty), ‘adl (equal treatment), amanah (accountability for digital footprints), rahmah (virtual compassion), tabayyun (data verification), and hifzh al-isba‘ (responsibility for one’s digital expressions). This study concludes that addressing cyber toxicity requires strengthening Islamic morality-based digital moral literacy, systematically integrating it into Islamic Religious Education curricula and cyber-related public policies.

Abstract

Social conflict in neighborhood relations is not only related to differences in interests but also to how individuals understand rights, obligations, communication, prejudice, and social boundaries. This study aims to analyze the principles of Islamic neighborly ethics and map their relevance as a mechanism for social conflict resolution. The study employs a qualitative approach using library research and content analysis. The research corpus consists of 15 sources grouped into three categories: Islamic normative sources, Islamic literature, and scholarly journal articles concerning neighborly ethics, social conflict, social harmony, and conflict resolution. Data were analyzed through the stages of identifying units of meaning, coding, categorization, cross-source comparison, and thematic synthesis. The findings reveal four major themes: (1) respect for neighbors' rights and security; (2) positive communication and control of prejudice; (3) mutual assistance, consultation, and conflict settlement; and (4) strengthening social cohesion through neighborhood relations. The analysis demonstrates that Islamic neighborly ethics function not merely as individual moral norms but also as preventive, corrective, and integrative mechanisms in social conflict. Al-Ghazali's perspective strengthens the dimension of individual moral formation, while Durkheim provides a framework for understanding how shared norms generate social order and solidarity. The perspectives of Shihab and Madjid broaden the understanding of Islamic social ethics within plural societies. This study differs from previous studies because it does not merely identify neighbors' rights and obligations but maps the social functions of these ethical values into the stages of conflict prevention, de-escalation, settlement, and reconciliation.

Abstract

This study comparatively examines the concept of social morality in Islam and communitarian philosophy as two ethical frameworks that emphasize the importance of collective values in social life. The study is motivated by the intensification of the social moral crisis in the modern era, in which individualism and consumerism often marginalize the common good. It aims to identify the fundamental similarities and differences between the two ethical systems and to formulate their potential integration within the context of pluralistic Indonesian society. This study employs a library research method with a qualitative-comparative approach, analyzing 13 purposively selected primary and secondary sources. These consist of three primary works on Islamic social morality by al-Ghazali, Ibn Miskawayh, and al-Mawardi; three primary works on communitarian philosophy by MacIntyre, Sandel, and Taylor; and seven supporting secondary sources. The data were analyzed using content analysis through thematic categorization and cross-source comparison. The findings reveal three main points. First, both ethical systems position the community as a foundation for the formation of individual moral character and reject the conception of human beings as atomistic individuals who independently construct their values. This is reflected in the functional parallel between the Islamic concepts of tarbiyah and uswah hasanah and the communitarian notions of narrative and dialogical self-formation. Second, a fundamental difference lies in the sources of moral legitimacy. Islamic social morality is grounded in revelation, which is considered thabit (fixed), whereas communitarianism is based on rational-historical consensus that remains open to revision. This distinction has implications for differences in the ultimate orientation of moral formation and its resilience in the face of social change. Third, the two ethical traditions are mutually complementary in addressing shared challenges, including global individualism, social fragmentation, and the limited capacity of local institutions. Islamic social morality provides a stable value anchor and a transcendent source of moral commitment, while communitarianism offers a rational-participatory framework capable of functioning within a pluralistic public sphere. This study contributes to addressing a gap in the literature, which has generally treated these two ethical traditions separately, while also offering a conceptual framework for developing social policies and character education based on the integration of religious and communitarian values in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines social justice in the workplace from the perspective of Islamic ethics, focusing on how the values of 'adl (justice), amanah (trustworthiness), and ihsan (moral excellence) can be conceptually distinguished while being integrated as the foundation of workers' rights. The purpose of this study is to analyze the principles of Islamic social justice and formulate strategies for their application in human resource management. The method used is a descriptive-qualitative library research design on 20 primary and secondary sources including the Qur'an, tafsir studies, and accredited journal articles from 2011-2024 selected based on thematic relevance and publisher credibility, then analyzed using content-analysis techniques. The main findings show that social justice remains unrealized in many workplaces, marked by discrimination, wage inequality, and weak worker protection, while 'adl, amanah, and ihsan are theoretically shown to foster intrinsic motivation, job satisfaction, and reduced counterproductive behavior. The implication is the need to integrate maqashid al-shariah principles into recruitment, evaluation, and compensation policy, supported by leadership grounded in shiddiq, amanah, fathanah, and tabligh. The study's originality lies in explicitly differentiating 'adl, amanah, and ihsan and linking them directly to contemporary workers' rights, an emphasis rarely made explicit in prior studies on Islamic work ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of four indicators of religious moderation (national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation of local wisdom) to the formation of political ethics in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by analyzing regulations, policy documents, religious harmony surveys, reports on freedom of religion and belief, and scholarly articles published between 2019 and 2025. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically by relating the four indicators of religious moderation to the principles of Islamic political ethics, namely ‘adl (justice), amanah (trustworthiness), sidq (truthfulness), shura (consultation), and maslahah (public benefit). The findings indicate that the contribution of religious moderation to political ethics is partial and occurs at different levels. The increase in the Religious Harmony Index from 67.46 in 2020 to 76.47 in 2024 indicates positive developments in tolerance, equality, and cooperation. However, this increase occurred alongside a rise in violations of freedom of religion and belief reported by SETARA Institute, from 217 incidents in 2023 to 260 incidents in 2024. This gap indicates that normative acceptance of religious moderation has not yet been fully translated into consistent socio-political practices. Tolerance and non-violence have a strong conceptual relationship with justice, consultation, and truthfulness, while national commitment and accommodation of local wisdom provide a basis for collective trustworthiness and social benefit. The study concludes that strengthening religious moderation should move beyond improving public perceptions toward political praxis through education, digital literacy, institutional strengthening, and evaluation mechanisms that integrate perception, behavioral, and freedom-of-religion data.
