Abstract

Islamic banking is a financial system based on Islamic principles, including the prohibition of riba (interest), gharar (uncertainty), and maysir (gambling), while emphasizing justice and public welfare in economic activities. This study aims to analyze Islamic banking from the perspectives of civil law and criminal law in Indonesia, as well as to compare the implementation of Islamic banking systems at the global level. The research employs a normative juridical method using a statutory, conceptual, and comparative approach, supported by an analysis of relevant laws, regulations, legal doctrines, and scholarly literature. The results indicate that, from a civil law perspective, the legal relationship between Islamic banks and customers is based on sharia contracts (akad) that function as binding agreements under general contract law, with specific characteristics derived from sharia principles. From a criminal law perspective, Islamic banking institutions remain subject to general and special criminal provisions, particularly in cases involving banking crimes, fraud, and money laundering, without exemption due to their sharia-based nature. Furthermore, the global comparison shows significant variations in Islamic banking systems, where some countries fully adopt Islamic banking, while others apply a dual banking system or integrate Islamic banking within conventional financial frameworks. These differences are influenced by national legal systems, regulatory policies, and institutional support. This study concludes that Islamic banking represents not only a religious-based economic system but also a complex legal entity that interacts closely with civil law, criminal law, and global legal dynamics.

Abstract

This research aims to apply the value-based approach in Qur'anic exegesis through an applied model on the verse of the Qur'anic address to humanity in Surah Luqman. It seeks to highlight an exegetical approach that has not been systematically explored as an independent field, despite its implicit presence in many classical commentaries. The research adopts a deductive method to extract values from the Qur'anic address in Surah Luqman (31:33); a descriptive method to describe and classify the values; and an analytical method to analyze and link them to contemporary realities. The research concludes by defining the value-based approach in exegesis as the exegete's inclination to clarify Qur'anic verses from the perspective of the Islamic values they contain, explicitly or implicitly. This approach aids in embodying the Qur'an and applying it in reality. Furthermore, the verse of the Qur'anic address to humanity in Surah Luqman encompasses thirteen values: five negative and eight positive values identified within the single verse. And studying the value-based approach in interpreting the Qur'anic address to humanity in Surah Luqman reveals its importance in contributing to value-based education and modifying human behavior. This opens the horizon for further research into all Qur'anic verses to uncover their value-based dimension.

Abstract

This study examines the historiographical methodology of Jamal al-Din Ibn al-Qifti (568–646 AH / 1172–1248 CE), one of the foremost historians of the 6th and 7th Hijri centuries. The study aims to uncover the characteristics of his historical approach, his sources, and his scholarly contributions. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the research analyzes his historical writings and intellectual biography, highlighting his pivotal role in advancing the craft of historiography. The study concludes that Ibn al-Qifti established a comprehensive and rigorous historical methodology characterized by eight distinguishing features: the integration of events and biographies within a single work; the broadening of historical inquiry to encompass diverse nations and sciences; the use of isnad (chain of transmission) in reporting; attention to the history of smaller families; linking the history of physicians with philosophers; the richness and diversity of historical material; systematic documentation of deaths and events; and the repetition of biographical entries for deeper verification. The significance of this study lies in its being the first comprehensive analytical investigation into Ibn al-Qifti's historical methodology as a whole.

Abstract

The phenomenon of urban loneliness among migrant students has become a contemporary social challenge that threatens mental well-being and social cohesion on campus, particularly at UIN Walisongo Semarang. This study aims to analyze the role of Ukhuwah Islamiyah as a coping mechanism in overcoming this social alienation, as well as integrating religious values within the framework of Civic Education to strengthen national solidarity. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method through observation and in-depth interviews with migrant students at UIN Walisongo, supported by a review of academic literature for the 2020–2025 period. The analysis results indicate that urban loneliness is triggered by migration factors, urban individualism, and impersonal digital communication patterns. The research findings confirm that Ukhuwah Islamiyah functions significantly as a coping mechanism through strengthening hablum minannas and activating mosque-based communities that facilitate meaningful social interactions. From a PPKN perspective, this practice of solidarity reflects the practice of the Third Principle of Pancasila, namely "Indonesian Unity," which acts as a glue for national integration amidst the diversity of students' regional backgrounds. This research provides theoretical and practical contributions to the development of inclusive and solution-oriented civic character (civic virtue) in facing the challenges of modern urban life.

Abstract

This study examined the challenges and strategies for enhancing Islamic education through the Hausa language in Niger State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed involving 196 teachers selected from Islamic schools within the Kontagora Emirate Council. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that the major challenges affecting the use of Hausa language in Islamic education include the lack of standardized Hausa Islamic textbooks across schools and the poor translation of Islamic materials from Arabic into Hausa, which often leads to distortion of meaning. The study further found that the provision of digital Hausa Islamic resources, such as audio materials, videos, and mobile applications, as well as the development of standardized Hausa-language textbooks, are key strategies for improving Islamic education. The study concludes that strengthening Hausa-language educational resources and promoting standardized instructional materials can significantly enhance the effectiveness of Islamic education in Niger State. It is therefore recommended that government agencies and religious organizations collaborate to support the development and dissemination of quality Hausa-language Islamic educational materials.
