Abstract

This study explores the role of General Purpose Technologies (GPTs) as fundamental drivers of long-term economic transformation and analyzes the prospective impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of the Indonesian economy. GPTs, characterized by their pervasiveness, continuous improvement, and ability to foster complementary innovations, historically trigger profound structural changes. However, their full productivity benefits are often delayed, a phenomenon known as the "productivity paradox," pending significant co-investments in complementary assets such as human capital, infrastructure, and institutional adaptation. Indonesia's experience with the internet, where significant economic impact materialized only in the long term, serves as a pertinent case study. As the world enters a new wave driven by AI—a GPT with the unprecedented potential to automate cognitive tasks—Indonesia faces both a monumental opportunity for growth acceleration and substantial risks of deepening inequality and labor market dislocation. Through a qualitative literature review , this paper argues that successfully navigating the AI era demands a comprehensive national strategy. This strategy must transcend mere technological adoption to prioritize a fundamental reform of the education system towards automation-resistant skills, ensure equitable digital infrastructure development, and establish an adaptive ethical and regulatory framework. Ultimately, the paper concludes that a holistic, human-centric approach is crucial for Indonesia to leverage AI for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

International trade has become a key driver of Indonesia's economic development, particularly through trade relations with major partners such as China, Japan, the United States, and Singapore. Over the past three decades, Indonesia’s trade pattern has shown a strong reliance on the export of raw commodities and the import of high value-added manufactured goods. This pattern reflects the characteristics of a developing country that is rich in natural resources but still faces limitations in industrial capacity and technological advancement. This study aims to explore the structure of Indonesia's trade from 1990 to 2023 and evaluate its alignment with the classical theory of comparative advantage. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, this research applies the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method developed by Balassa to measure the competitiveness of Indonesia's exports in raw materials and manufactured products. The data is analyzed based on HS Code classifications and sourced from UN Comtrade.0020The results show that Indonesia consistently has a comparative advantage in the export of raw commodities, with RCA values greater than 1, while most imported manufactured goods show RCA values less than 1, indicating low competitiveness in that sector. These findings suggest that Indonesia’s trade pattern remains consistent with the principle of comparative advantage—exporting goods that can be produced at lower opportunity costs and importing goods that are less efficiently produced domestically. However, the country’s dependence on raw material exports presents long-term challenges, especially in a global economy that increasingly emphasizes industrialization and technological innovation.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the skincare industry has created increasingly fierce competition among brands, especially in the facial serum category. Consumers, who are faced with a wide variety of serum brands, certainly have various considerations when making purchasing decisions. Avoskin, a well-known local skincare brand, faces challenges in increasing purchasing decisions despite continuing to carry out various promotions to keep its products competitive and the consumers' choice. Avoskin serum sales have experienced fluctuations that tend to decline. This study aims to analyse the role of brand image in mediating the influence of promotions on purchasing decisions for Avoskin serum in Denpasar City. The method used is non-probability sampling with purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted through a survey using a questionnaire distributed to 130 respondents. The analysis technique used was path analysis, followed by a Sobel test. The results of the analysis indicate that promotions have a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions, promotions have a positive and significant influence on brand image, brand image has a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions, and brand image is able to mediate the influence of promotions on purchasing decisions. The theoretical implications of this study support the findings of previous studies. The practical implications of this study provide a reference for Avoskin's management in their efforts to improve purchasing decisions. This can be achieved by paying attention to promotion and brand image.

Abstract

The coffee shop industry in Indonesia has grown significantly, driven by globalization and Generation Z’s preference for aesthetic and social spaces. This study aims to analyze the influence of electronic word-of-mouth (E-WOM) and service quality on repurchase intention, with brand image as a mediating variable, among consumers of Domus Coffee & Eatery in Denpasar. Using a quantitative approach grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) theory, data were collected from 120 respondents through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation. Path analysis results indicate that both E-WOM and service quality positively and significantly affect brand image and repurchase intention, directly and indirectly through brand image mediation. Service quality had the strongest total effect (β = 0.541) compared to E-WOM (β = 0.278), making it the dominant factor influencing repeat purchase behavior. These findings highlight the importance of digital reputation management and consistent service delivery in building a strong brand image and maintaining customer loyalty, especially amidst intense competition in Denpasar’s coffee shop industry.

Abstract

This study discusses the strategic role of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors as the backbone of the economy in border areas through a comprehensive literature analysis. These sectors make a major contribution to sustaining regional economic growth by providing employment, strengthening food security, supporting community income, and preserving the environment. However, optimising the role of these sectors still faces various challenges, such as limited infrastructure, restricted market access, low technology, socio-ecological conflicts, and policy and institutional challenges. The research method used systematic literature review with thematic analysis to identify contributions and obstacles faced. The research findings highlight the need for an integrated approach that strengthens infrastructure, human resource capacity, local institutions, and policy harmonisation to promote inclusive and sustainable regional economic growth in border areas. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for policy recommendations to strengthen the role of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors as drivers of the border community's economy.
