Abstract

This study analyzes sustainable management strategies in Kabola Subdistrict, Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The coastal area of Kabola (covering 5.069 km² with a population of 4,398) has dual potential as a coastal tourism destination characterized by scenic coastal attractions and as an economic base for fisheries as the main trading sector. Key fishery resources include tuna, belo-belo, and octopus. The primary objective of this study is to formulate an integrated utilization strategy model, in which the Nostalgia Tourism Forest (located in Buiko) is prioritized for the protection of vegetation and natural freshwater springs as key attractions, in alignment with the sustainable management of marine resources. Methodologically, this research employs a descriptive qualitative approach supported by analyses based on the Environmental Carrying Capacity theory (Ceballos-Lascuráin, 1996) and the Conservation Economy concept (UNWTO, 2005). The findings indicate that the recommended strategy is the integration of community-based governance and the diversification of marine ecotourism, which supports the subdistrict’s mission to enhance community welfare.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the potential of natural resources in Kamot Village, East Alor District, and to examine their contribution to improving community welfare. The research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach through interviews and field observations. The results show that Kamot Village possesses five main natural resource sectors with high potential, namely agriculture, plantations, livestock, inland fisheries, and forestry. In the agricultural sector, wet and dry land areas serve as the basis for food production with main commodities such as rice, corn, cassava, and various vegetables. The plantation sector provides the largest contribution through commodities such as candlenut, cashew, cocoa, coffee, tamarind, and vanilla, supported by relatively large land areas. The livestock sector has also developed with a considerable number of animals, providing economic benefits for the community. In addition, inland fisheries, particularly catfish cultivation, show promising business prospects through group-based management systems. The forestry sector, which covers approximately 50% of the village area, functions as an ecosystem buffer and produces high-value non-timber forest products such as vanilla, coffee, candlenut, and porang. Overall, the natural resource potential of Kamot Village is substantial and diverse; however, its management remains traditional and faces challenges including limited water availability, technology constraints, and lack of technical assistance. This study recommends strengthening community capacity, developing appropriate technology, and implementing sustainable management practices to optimize the utilization of natural resources and improve community welfare.

Abstract

Otvai Village is one of the villages in Northwest Alor District which is known as the largest clove producer in Alor Regency, with a land area of 198 hectares and a fairly high production every harvest season. The abundant potential of cloves makes Otvai Village have a great opportunity to develop the agro-tourism sector as a form of economic diversification based on local resources. This research aims to analyze the potential of cloves as a leading commodity, identify opportunities for agrotourism development, and review the supporting and inhibiting factors that affect its implementation. The research method used is qualitative descriptive by examining data on the potential of natural, social, economic, and village infrastructure. The results of the analysis show that Otvai Village has the main strength in clove production, a natural landscape that supports plantation tourism, and the existence of local cultural elements to support tourism activities. However, several obstacles such as damage to road infrastructure, low tourism support facilities, and lack of promotion are the main challenges in agrotourism development. This study recommends strengthening tourism village governance, improving infrastructure, and diversifying processed clove products as a community-based agro-tourism development strategy.

Abstract

Adolescence is a developmental stage characterized by vulnerability to issues related to relationships, sexuality, and reproductive health, particularly when sexual literacy is limited. This study aimed to develop and implement a healthy sexuality education program based on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The study involved 33 senior high school students aged 15–18 years who were actively engaged in the processes of problem identification, planning, implementation, and program evaluation. The intervention was delivered through an interactive learning medium, the Card of Sex Education (CASED), using reflective group discussions. Program effectiveness was evaluated using a pre-test and post-test design developed in accordance with UNESCO guidelines. The results indicated a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after the intervention (Z = −3.662; p < 0.001) with a strong effect size. These findings suggest that CSE-based sexuality education combined with a participatory approach is effective in enhancing adolescents’ sexual literacy and life skills.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the satirical meaning of Jotham's parable (Judges 9:7–15) through a historical interpretation approach in the context of Abimelech's leadership. The method used is qualitative with a literature review (biblical exegesis), integrating historical-critical and thematic analysis of the text and related literature. The results show that Jotham's parable is a form of socio-political criticism conveyed symbolically through the fable of the trees. The olive, fig, and vine trees symbolize ideal, productive leadership oriented toward the welfare of the community, while the thornbush represents Abimelech's selfish, unproductive, and destructive leadership. The satire in the text is conveyed indirectly through figurative language, irony, and repetitive structures that reinforce its rhetorical message. In a historical context, this parable emerged as a response to Abimelech's power, which was obtained through violence and manipulation, thus lacking moral and theological legitimacy. These findings emphasize that leadership not rooted in divine values and social responsibility will lead to destruction. Thus, the parable of Jotham not only has historical significance, but also theological relevance as a critique of deviant leadership and as a basis for reflection for contemporary Christian leadership.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has increased gadget usage among elementary school children, including those in Haruyan Dayak Village. Uncontrolled gadget use may negatively affect children’s social development, behavior, physical health, and emotional well-being. This activity aims to improve students’ understanding of wise gadget use through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The method includes problem identification, action planning, implementation of socialization activities, observation and evaluation, and reflection. The subjects were 30 students from grades 1 to 6 at SDN Haruyan Dayak. The results indicate that most students frequently use gadgets, primarily for entertainment such as social media, with limited understanding of healthy usage. The interactive socialization conducted through presentations, educational videos, and discussions successfully improved students’ understanding of the positive and negative impacts of gadgets, the importance of limiting screen time, and the productive use of gadgets. Additionally, initial behavioral changes were observed, such as reduced gadget use during class hours and increased awareness of the negative effects of excessive use. However, students’ understanding is not yet evenly distributed, indicating the need for continuous guidance from parents and teachers.
