Within this context, this study examines newspaper reportage of cult related activities in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The objectives of the study are to determine the degree of prominence given to the cult related stories in Emohua Local Government Area, and to ascertain how cult related stories are being framed and reported by Nigerian newspapers. The study anchors on the theoretical premise of Media Framing Theory. The study employs quantitative content analysis. The population of this study is limited to the publications of three national newspapers in Nigeria; The Punch, The Guardian and The Nation. The period covered is from June 1st 2021 to April 30th 2022. Within these eleven months, these newspapers had three hundred and thirty five (335) publications apiece making a total of one thousand and five (1005) publications. Purposive sampling was employs while the unit of analysis for this study consisted of news stories, editorials, advertorials, columns/opinions, interviews, feature stories and others focusing on cultism as published by the three newspapers being studied. These newspapers were chosen due to their ownership structure, area of coverage and frequency of publication. The findings reveal that cult related stories were not given prominence as was supposed to be. Abstract

The issue of sentencing minors for criminal behavior persistently garners widespread public attention, stemming from the acknowledgement that children, too, can engage in illicit activities. Within the Indonesian context, juvenile punishment is formally governed by Act 11 of 2012, which outlines the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. This normative study aspires to scrutinize and answer two primary research questions, which are 1)To what extent does the existing stipulation in Act 11 of 2012, concerning the duration of incarceration for minors convicted of serious offenses, adhere to recognized principles of justice and accomplish the intended goals of the sentencing? and 2)What ideal legislative provisions should be adopted or revised pertaining to the length of incarceration for juveniles guilty of severe crimes in order to align with just principles and effectively fulfill the objectives of sentencing in future implementations? While the study maintains that the welfare and psychological well-being of children must be safeguarded against the adverse effects of detention, it simultaneously argues that equal consideration must be extended to the grievances and trauma experienced by the victims of juvenile crimes.

Abstract

As Indonesia navigates its complex path towards economic and political modernization, the transition to democracy has seen it evolve into an industrial society. However, this change has inadequately empowered vital economic sectors for public welfare. Additionally, the nation's unstable democratic politics stray from Pancasila, Indonesia's guiding philosophical principles advocating for deliberative dialogue. Over the past 15 years, developmental politics and political liberalization have clashed, undermining both the collective economy and cultural wisdom, and eroding Indonesia's unique cultural identity. This has stirred doubts about the fit of democracy within Indonesia's nation-state construct. The ensuing research aims to reevaluate indigenous wisdom and political ideologies ingrained in Indonesia's diverse ethnic landscape, focusing on untapped social capital to bolster the democratic framework. The study comprises two key research areas: one looks at ethnic communities like Wajo and Minang, and the second studies social dynamics in various Java city parks. Grounded in Consultative Democracy and examined through a phenomenological lens, the research sits within the broader arena of political anthropology. It uses a qualitative-interpretive methodology to delve into culture, economics, and politics, aspiring to enrich our understanding of their intricate interconnections in modern Indonesia and contribute to a nuanced dialogue on Indonesia's democratic viability

Abstract

As globalization evolves, it leads to a gradual erosion of local cultures, including in Indonesia. It's imperative for the government to nurture and enhance Indonesian culture. However, there's a noticeable decline in the cultural preservation efforts by DKI Jakarta's Regional Government, negatively impacting relevant stakeholders. This research delves into how DKI Jakarta's Regional Regulation No. 4 of 2015, focused on the Preservation of Betawi Culture, is being integrated into the educational curriculum. The main objective is to devise strategies for embedding the Betawi language into the local educational content, aiming to safeguard it against the risk of disappearing, aligning with the goals of the 2015 regulation. A notable issue is the differing perceptions between DKI Jakarta’s Culture Service officials and the Education and Community Service Office regarding the significance of researching and promoting the protection of Betawi language and literature, compared to public opinion. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, suitable for analyzing societal phenomena that are not quantifiable, allowing for a detailed depiction of the observations. Literature Review is used as the main method for gathering data. The outcome of this study includes practical solutions for integrating the Betawi language into the local educational content, thereby contributing to its preservation and averting the danger of its extinction.

Abstract

In the unfolding narrative of Madagascar's post-independence journey, the troubling paradox of economic regression persists amidst the nation's bountiful natural wealth, coveted by others. Despite the implementation of diverse policies by successive leaders, the pervasive specter of poverty endures. This theological contemplation propels a fervent call for a policy metamorphosis—a conscientious exploration of sophocracy, rooted in the wisdom epitomized by King Solomon, as a transformative catalyst. A historical-critical analysis of Solomon's governance, woven from biblical texts and scholarly discourse, reveals sophocracy's potential to restore equilibrium, necessitate substantive reform, and harmoniously integrate with other forms of power. Yet, the theologian's discerning gaze acknowledges the need for an adapted Malagasy sophocracy, cognizant of human vulnerabilities. The prospect emerges that a locally nuanced sophocracy, grounded in Malagasy wisdom and identity, could redefine the nation's history. However, this journey is tempered by a vigilant consideration of internal and external risks, echoing the delicate interplay between divine guidance and human agency.

Abstract

This article comes about with the objective of analyzing the electoral integrity and the quality of democracy in sub-Saharan Africa, considering the case of Mozambique. The main argument that guides this article is that, in the case of Mozambique, electoral cycles are characterized by problems of electoral integrity, more due to the political centralism adopted by the ruling party, Frelimo. To support this argument, can be advanced a premise according to which the political centralism adopted by Frelimo was inherited from the colony, from the militarism of the struggles for independence and perfected in the socialist period. From a qualitative and multidisciplinary approach centered on African history and political science, this article concludes that, although Mozambique is formally a democratic country, its political practices denote that it is a country with problems of electoral integrity.
