Abstract

The development of specialized footwear for individuals with diabetes plays a crucial role in advancing modern healthcare products. Beyond aesthetics, these designs must address key factors such as ergonomics, thermal comfort, and the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers, which are highly prevalent due to vascular complications and peripheral neuropathy. This study employed a questionnaire-based approach to gather direct input from diabetic patients regarding their preferences and specific needs, providing essential insights for designing optimal footwear solutions. Based on responses from fifty participants, comfort, soft cushioning, and breathable materials emerged as the most critical features. To effectively minimize the risk of infection and open wounds, footwear must offer excellent ventilation and significantly reduce plantar pressure. The design process involved an in-depth analysis of user requirements, combined with the evaluation of various materials such as EVA foam, suede, and traditional jarik fabric known for its superior breathability. A key innovation introduced in this prototype includes a combination of highly breathable materials, memory foam insoles that adapt to the individual’s foot contour, and an outsole featuring a 3D-printed auxetic lattice structure engineered for optimal pressure distribution. The design was also developed using ergonomic principles and foot anthropometry, incorporating Indonesian adult foot dimension data to ensure optimal fit and comfort.

Abstract

Population growth in Klaten City has led to an increase in the need for decent housing, especially in type 36 housing which is often built as a solution to land limitations. The living room in this type of house is often used as a multifunctional room used for various activities. Activities carried out such as studying, ironing, dining room, family room, to storing occupants' belongings, so that this room is known as a multifunctional family room. This condition raises challenges in terms of space efficiency and comfort, because the furniture available on the market is not yet able to support several activities carried out simultaneously. The purpose of this design is to create a multifunctional furniture product that can not only be adjusted to the needs of occupant activities, but is also easy to fold (foldable) and provides additional storage space. This design has benefits as a reference for adaptive design solutions that support optimal space utilization in small-sized homes. The design process is carried out through field studies, user needs analysis, concept development, and final design evaluation. The SCAMPER method is used as an idea exploration approach to produce various design alternatives. The final result of this study is a multifunctional folding furniture product that is ergonomic, compact, and pays attention to aspects of strength and material safety, so that it can be used flexibly in the long term. The novel value of this research lies in the combination of learning and ironing functions in one furniture unit that can be folded and moved easily, and supports space efficiency in a minimalist residential environment.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Patrol activities are an important element in maintaining the security and safety of the campus environment. However, at Universitas Surabaya (UBAYA) campus, security (SATPAM) patrol activities are still dominated by walking and the use of gasoline-powered motor vehicles, which have limitations in range, efficiency, and environmental impact. This study addresses the theme of usability studies in designing an electric bike as a campus patrol vehicle, with the need for a more adaptive, ergonomic, and sustainable patrol facility. The aim of this research is to formulate criteria and design decisions for an electric bike that align with the operational needs of UBAYA's SATPAM and serve as the foundation for the final design project. The research method used is qualitative through field observations, in-depth interviews with the head of UBAYA's SATPAM, literature studies, and trials of electric bike use on campus. The research process focused on the analysis of frame ergonomics, drive system, bicycle size, and patrol-supporting components in accordance with electric bicycle regulations in Indonesia. The results of the study indicate that an electric bicycle with an ergonomic frame in an upright sitting position, a hub motor drive system, and adjustments in wheel and handle sizes is more suitable for low-speed, repetitive campus patrol patterns. The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of an electric bicycle design that is specifically contextualized for the needs of campus patrols in Indonesia, using a human-centered design approach and environmental sustainability principles.

Abstract

Based on the low level of knowledge and understanding of the Product Design students, majoring in Transportation Design, in the creative process of Product Design from a Socio-Cultural Science perspective, as well as the lack of insight of the academic community regarding the breadth of alternative employment opportunities in the scope of product design in the automotive industry in Indonesia, this research was conducted with the specific aim of enriching references and teaching materials in the scope of product design education, which applies consumer lifestyle theory as one of the basic foundations when carrying out the process of creating innovative and creative product designs. The chosen research theme is to review the design of a domestic car body kit accessory called GH Style using an interdisciplinary qualitative research method with phenomenological techniques, to find its relevance to the lifestyle of the millennial generation. This research began with a review of works and literature, as well as several interview sessions with several key informants in the field of car modification that have been recognized internationally. After conducting a valid data collection process, the researcher will then review the GH Style Type 001 body kit product intended for commercial cars such as the Daihatsu Gran Max, with lifestyle theory and product design aesthetic theory, to find the relevance between Social and Cultural Sciences and Product Design Science. Therefore, it can be concluded that this research will add to the wealth of teaching materials in the Product Design group, because it has never been done before, especially for the same product.
