The results of Pearson correlation analysis using SPSS show that between anti-smoking campaign exposure with the attitude to quit smoking has a positive correlation. It is seen from the significant value of 0.000 or less than 0.01 and a correlation value of 0.480 which indicates a significant correlation between the two variables. While the significant others communication intensity with the attitude to quit smoking also has a positive correlation. It is seen from the significant value of 0.000 or less than 0.01, and the correlation value of 0.785, indicating a strong correlation between these two variables. The communication intensity with the health experts variable positively corelates with the behavioral intention of pregnant women in Semarang to perform HIV testing, because the significance value shows p=0.025 (<0.05). The correlation value of 0.290 indicates a weak correlation between the two variables. Abstract

Mass media nowadays fight for the values, interest, and ideology through their reporting. In that case, all of the fact that is found by the journalist will pass the selection process in some steps to form a news that is worth to be published. For sure, it also happens in the process of LGBT news production in Republika Online. It makes the news tend to be unbalance and show the discriminatory to the group of LGBT. This research uses the theory of gatekeeping with descriptive qualitative method and critical paradigm. The data of this research was taken by interviewing some editorial crew involving in news production of LGBT, such as reporter, assistant of managing editor, and deputy of managing editor. The result of this research shows that in the individual level, both reporter and editor have their own values of interpreting LGBT phenomenon. As a gatekeeper, they use their own values to construct the reality. Some argue that the behaviour of LGBT is a kind of rights, but the others argue that their behaviour is not appropriate with the value that is constructed in the society. However, that diversity of ideas change into the same one because of the media routines. For sure, the media routines have some norms and regulation of reporting and directing the news angle to make a public opinion. And so, it limits the diversity of ideas owned by each reporter. Republika Online argue that LGBT is a deviant behaviour as it contradict with the value bringing by the society. Because of that, this media need to fight for the value that used to exist in society. Further, the editors as a gatekeeper in this level have an authority to edit the news written by reporter. So, it is very possible if the personal values bringing by reporter on their article are reduced. The attitude of Republika Online which is tend to be impartial to the group of LGBT is close to the vision and mision of this organization. It is a kind of guidance for the media worker in production news, especially LGBT news. Based on that guidance, Republika also try to fight for the interest of communities by voicing the Moslem’s values. Beside that, Republika Online also try to seek for legitimation of their attitude in reporting LGBT by selecting the source of information. It means, Republika Online try to give a space for them who defend for the rights and freedom of LGBT (cover both sides). But, the dominant part in the reporting focus on the sources of information that contradict with LGBT groups. The ratio space of people who contradict and defend is 70 : 30. It makes the news become bias of cover both sides. The last level of gatekeeping process is social system level. In this level, the dominant culture is assumsed that it refusing the behaviour of LGBT. That point of view seems to strength the Republika Online’s attitude to give a bad justification to LGBT. So, the dominant level of gatekeeping process of LGBT news in Republika Online is organization level.

Abstract

Abstract

The background of this research is based on many cases of early mariages that under age girls do. Early marriages that occur in children is related with their sorroundings, such as family and peer groups. This research aims to determine the correlation of the intensity of parent – child communication, the intensity of communication with peer groups, an girl’s interest to marry early. The method which is used in this research is the quantitative with positivistic approach. This research used The Reasoned Action Theory and The Reference Group Theory. This research is using non probability samling technique. The population in this research is girls age 10-16 in Indramayu district. While the sample is 60 respondens. The data is analyzed with the aid of SPSS aplication with Pearson correlation test. The result of this research indicate there is correlation between the intensity of parent – child communication and girl’s interest to marry early with significance value is 0,001 and Pearson correlation value is -0,434. It means the correlation’s power of the intensity of parent – child communication and girl’s interest to marry early is medium with not unidirectional. So, if the intensity of parent – child communication is high, then girl’s interest to marry early is low. If the intensity of parent – child communication is low, then girl’s interest to marry early is high. And also there is correlation between the intensity of communication with peer groups and girl’s interest to marry early with significance value is 0,006 and Pearson correlation value is 0,353. It means the correlation’s power is weak and unidirectional. So, if the intensity of communication with peer groups is high, then girl’s interest to marry early is high. If the intensity of communication with peer groups is low, then girl’s interest to marry early is low. The suggestion of the researcher is for the goverment to give counseling for parents through BKKBN about early marriage and its impact, and also for parents go intensify the communication with their children, so the children will get knowledge and a good understanding about early marriage and its impact on them. The counseling can be done through local resident’s regular meeting.

Abstract

A same-clan marriage is basically prohibited in Batak Toba tribe but in some cases there are several couples did it. The different opinion of this issue triggers conflict for the couples and its surroundings. People nowadays consider that negotiation is the first step to set up a productive conflict where its conflict can be resolved by using the right communication. Couple who did same-clan marriage could negotiate the different point of view regarding this issue to form an agreement The writer used the interpretive paradigm and the data analysis technique as the phenomenology method of the study. The data of the study were three couples who did same-clan marriage. The theory used in this study was the Principled Negotiation from Fisher and the Win-win negotiation Strategies from Beebe et al. By using a qualitative approach, this study aims to determine several factors behind the occurrence of a same-clan marriage and the communication in negotiation of a same-clan marriage in Batak Toba tribe. The result of the study shows that there are 3 aspects of communication in negotiation of a same-clan marriage in Batak Toba tribe; language characteristics, the use of non-verbal communication, and the choice of communication line. When all the informant got involved in the negotiation process of a same-clan marriage, the study shows that mostly there is no decision for both sides. Through this study the writer concluded that the creation of an agreement when negotiating influenced by negotiations based on several principles; separating people from the problem, centered on interest not opinion, determination of choice for the mutual benefit and stands on an objective criteria which the negotiators negotiate through direct communication. The prepossessing result of the study shows that some clans in Batak Toba tribes no longer concern about the issue of a same-clan marriage.
