Abstract

There are two objectives of this research, these are (1) to determine the type of Illocutionary Act in Michelle Obama speech that she told on The Power of Education through YouTube media; and (2) to find out the way of Michelle Obama speech conveying indirect or direct speech. The researcher used Searle theory concerning of Illocutionary Act, while used Yule theory to find out Michelle Obama speech coveying indirect or direct speech act. The method used descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, in obtaining the data the researcher used documentary technique. Based on the research results, the researcher found 0 data for declaration; 56 data for representative (assertive) and mostly are concerning as suggestions; 8 data for expressive; 4 data for directive; and 3 data for commissive. Meanwhile, the researcher has found some data regarding direct and indirect speech act from Michelle Obama speech, these are 145 data that refers as direct speech act and 3 data for indirect speech act. The researcher can conclude that in Michelle Obama speech most used the representative speech act and she mostly conveyed her speech in direct speech act. This research is dedicated to anyone who want to learn about pragmatics, especially about Illocutionary Act specifically. They can use others media to analyze about it, such as music, television program, in teaching learning, and so on.

Abstract

Education related to how teacher teaching their students the material that help student solve the problem, increase their capability, and applied what they have learnt in their daily activities. In COVID-19 emergency, the Indonesian government issues a distance and online learning policy and students can study even in a state of social distancing. This pandemic provides a challenge for all education units to continue to provide optimal service to their students. This research aims to analyze and identify the teachers’ role in teaching and learning process that was interfere during the pandemic. This research is a qualitative research with the literature review that discusses published information in a particular subject area, and sometimes information in a particular subject area within a certain time period. This research analyzes about several articles related to the challenge that faced by teacher during online learning due to pandemic and the strategies applied by teachers as a solution to keep students motivated and well-understand about the learning material. The result of this research showed the several strategies applied by teachers during online teaching implementation, such as make interesting media and convey it via zoom, intensively motivate students and parents about the importance of online learning, uses WhatsApp groups when teaching online since many of students are familiar with WhatsApp application and combining both online chat and video conference in online teaching and learning process.

Abstract

There are two objectives of this research, these are (1) to find out techniques in teaching vocabularies; and (2) to analyze the techniques in teaching vocabulary using songs as teaching media by literature review from several previous researches. The method used descriptive reviews method. This research analysis used literature review which is an important factor to take into consideration. It is an analysis that typically includes an outline, an explanation, and a critical assessment of previous research. Based on the research results, the researcher can decide that there are various techniques in teaching vocabulary from the previous researches, but there are three main activities are demonstrate the song verbally or non-verbally; use illustrations to describe the lyrics, such as pictures; and use their native language to convey the meaning of the vocabulary. Then, the main purpose is these teaching techniques are appropriate and suitable for students because there are various learning styles and characters in students.

Abstract

Discourse study is an interdisciplinary field that combines linguistics, psychology, poetics, and social sciences, focusing on systematic theory and various contexts. Social cognition is defined as a system of mental structures shared by members of a group, culture, or organization. This research aims to analyze the social aspects of the Avenged Sevenfold song “So Far Away” from a Critical Discourse perspective. It follows a descriptive qualitative design, generating data that describe the ‘who, what, and where of events or experiences’ from a subjective perspective. The analysis begins with an examination of each word in the lyrics,  followed by an analysis of the entire song and its social aspects. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the song reflects Synyster Gates’ feelings after the passing of his best friend, The Rev. Since they had been close friends since childhood, The Rev’s death was deeply painful for Synyster Gates.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure the influence of peer tutors on students' learning interests at SMPN 19 Kota Jambi. The type of research in this study is quantitative using the ex post-facto method. The number of students who were sampled in this study were 72 students consisting of grades VII and VIII using the Total Sampling technique. the tool used to collect data is the questionnaire instrument. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of peer tutors on learning interests. The constant acquisition value is 16,588, which means that if the peer tutor variable has a value of 0 then the interest in learning has a value of 16,588. peer tutors experience an increase of one unit, the interest in learning will increase by 0.859 at a constant of 16.588. Next, to test the hypothesis, the t test has criteria, namely if t count ≥ t table then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The t table value at the significant level is 0.05 and dk n-2 is 1.666. the results of the t test using SPSS, namely the value of t count ≥ t table, namely 11,358 ≥ 1,666 then Ha is accepted Ho is rejected meaning "There is an Influence of Peer Tutors on Student Learning Interests at SMPN 19 Jambi City"

Abstract

This research is motivated by reading problems that often occur in students. The purpose of this study was to reveal how much the reading skills of dyslexic children at SDN 70/IV Jambi improved by using play therapy techniques through content mastery services. This research is a service action research (PTL). The subjects in this study were two fifth grade students and one sixth grade student at SDN 70/IV Jambi with a total sample of 3 students. The results of this study were seen from the observation sheet in seeing the increase in reading skills of dyslexic students. The results of this study explained that the percentage level of reading skills in cycle 1 reached 72% went well, in cycle 2 reached 85% went well and in the implementation of cycle 3 reached 92% went very well. this shows that the higher the percentage level, the more success will be achieved in carrying out service action research (PTL) at SDN 70/IV Jambi.

Abstract

The background of this research discusses the symptoms of stress in students who are late in completing their thesis. who claimed to feel depressed, feel sad, confused, have difficulty controlling their emotions, often feel afraid and have trembling or sweaty hands when they want guidance with their supervisor, feel sad and sometimes feel lazy. So the purpose of this study was to reveal the frequency of stress symptoms in students who were late completing their thesis at the Faculty of Teaching and Education, University of Jambi. The limitations of the problem in this study are: this research was conducted on English education students at FKIP UNJA class of 2018. And this research only examines the symptoms of stress experienced by students, namely from mental symptoms such as; loss of self-confidence, blank look and irritability towards others. Emotional symptoms are manifestations of decreased mood such as anxiety, irrational panic attacks, sadness and fear of criticism, and negative views of oneself. Physical symptoms such as; sweaty palms, restlessness, and shaking hands. And behavioral symptoms; sleeping a lot or a little, socially withdrawn, and lazy. The methodology used in this study is to use quantitative research with a descriptive type. Data was obtained by distributing questionnaires as an instrument that was used to respondents, then the data were analyzed using percentages (%). The population of this study is English Study Program students in class of 2018 who are late in completing their thesis. So the sample of this study was students of the English Study Program with a total of 61 people with purposive sampling technique and the population was carried out on class 2018 students at UNJA.The conclusion from this study is that the frequency of stress symptoms in college students is at a "high" level with a percentage of 66%. In detail regarding matters related to the symptoms of stress, namely: Symptoms of metal stress obtain a "moderate" level of frequency, namely with a percentage of 56%. Symptoms of emotional stress get a frequency of "moderate" with a percentage of 58%. Symptoms of physical stress get a frequency of "moderate" with a percentage of 51%. Symptoms of behavioral stress get a frequency of "moderate" with a percentage of 51%. Suggestions for both lecturers and students are expected to be able to anticipate the symptoms of stress experienced by students during the completion of the thesis so that they do not appear. make motivational deadlines so that they can immediately complete their thesis and prepare themselves to follow the thesis writing process.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the very important learning components as a bridge in the delivery of material. The use of media in learning can have a positive impact and tremendous benefits in facilitating the student learning process. Learning media is also an indispensable basis for the success of the learning process. The aims of this study were (1) to determine student learning outcomes using conventional media based on animated videos (2) to analyze differences in learning outcomes between students using conventional media and animated videos. The stages of this research method are quasi-experimental research with pretest and posttest designs. The subjects of this study were students of class X at SMK Bhina ​​Karya Karanganyar and SMK Satya Karya Karanganyar. Taking the research class through random sampling technique based on the adjustment of the material to the class curriculum. Activities in data analysis include data processing activities and statistical analysis. This test was carried out on pre-test and post-test data, changes in post-test scores from pre-test scores on the experimental group. The conclusion of this study is that the learning model through learning media through interactive video is able to motivate students so that learning achievement can increase. Students gave a positive response to the implementation of the learning model using interactive videos.

Abstract

Education for children with special needs needs to be planned, implemented, monitored and evaluated based on quality standards. Therefore, it is required a successful strategy of providing learning and tutorials to develop progress in autistic children. The purpose of this evaluation research is to describe the results of an assessment of the inclusion program at Inclusive Senior High Schools in Bogor in order to improve and develop the inclusion program which has been implemented since 2010. Method of this research is qualitative with descriptive research type uses the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) method. Informants were determined using a purposive sampling technique in this study, who were Educators at Inclusive High Schools in Bogor Regency. While data collection techniques are carried out by observation, in-depth interviews with informants, and the use of written documents. Then to ensure the validity of the data in this study a triangulation technique was used. Furthermore, data analysis technique is using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion making. The results obtained from this research indicated that the process of implementing the Inclusion Program at Inclusive Senior High Schools in Bogor, West Java, has been implemented based on good procedures. This is because of the four effectiveness indicators indicate that the program is implementing well in the context, input, and process components, while in the product component the average is "adequate." It means that the output and outcomes components have not fulfilled the CIPP method for the Senior High School Inclusion Program in Bogor.

Abstract

This research aims to find efforts and strategies to improve the character education strengthening program by producing recommendations for the continuation of the next character education strengthening program. This research uses the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) method with the samples in this research are Lecturers, Rector/Director of Higher Education and Higher Education Officials of the Ministry of Education and Culture related to the Character Education Strengthening Program at Buddhist Universities in Banten. The results of character education strengthening program at the Buddhist Colleges in Banten takes the form of outputs and outcomes in order to form graduates of Buddhist Colleges with national character. Based on the results of the CIPP analysis, in the Context component, the character education strengthening program at Buddhist Colleges in Banten includes aspects of requirements analysis, the objectives, targets and policies getting "Good" evaluation results, in the Input component which includes aspects of resources, organization and infrastructure after going through the evaluation getting a range of "Good", the Process component of the character education strengthening program at Buddhist Colleges in Banten includes work procedures, activity schedules and implementation processes, based on the results of the evaluation getting "Adequate", the Product component which includes Output and Outcomes based on the results of the evaluation getting "Adequate." The assessment of the effectiveness of the character education strengthening program in the scope of education in general, is quite effective because this character education strengthening program refers to the priority of certain values that will be the focus of learning, understanding, understanding, and practice in order for character education to change the behavior, way of thinking, and way of acting of the entire Indonesian nation to be better and have integrity.
