Abstract

In the last 10 years, flood modeling has been used to describe the geospatial phenomenon of flooding in an area. Flood modeling analysis uses river geometric data as one of the inputs. River geometric data is obtained through image analysis and Digital Elevation Model data derivatives. Accuracy in creating river geometric data influences the modeling results. The limitations of both high cost and the influence of weather conditions from satellite data sources made photogrammetry techniques using UAV drones increasingly popular. This research aims to: 1). Create orthophotos and DEM with high accuracy of the location of flood areas, 2). Creating river geometric data for flood modeling, and  3). Modeling river floods with HEC-RAS software. This research uses Agisoft Photoscan software to process the resulting aerial photos. The results of testing the accuracy of DEM and orthophoto data obtained a vertical accuracy/ Linear Error (LE90) value of 1.029 m and a horizontal accuracy/ Circular Error (CE90) value of 0.214 m. The resulting orthophoto and DEM have high accuracy so they can be used as input in the modeling process. The result of high-resolution model will be able to provide a quick and accurate picture of geospatial phenomena. The flood model produced using HEC-RAS software shows that floods inundate an area of 120.14 ha in a return period of 2 years and 203.21 ha in a return period of 50 years.

Abstract

Deforestation affects the hydrological response of a watershed. Changes in forest land cover to non-forest can degrade watershed functions, especially the condition of water discharge. This research aims to analyze the impact of deforestation in the Mamasa Sub-watershed on the electricity production of the Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant. This research method uses the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) modeling system. The SWAT model is used to analyze the impact of deforestation on watershed discharge conditions. The deforestation scenario is determined based on the spatial analysis (overlay) results to obtain data on changes in forest land cover to non-forest. Four deforestation scenarios will be generated: no deforestation or zero deforestation (0%), low deforestation (20%), medium deforestation (40%), and high deforestation (60%). The simulation results show that the number of Hydrological Response Units (HRU) will be lower when deforestation increases. This research also succeeded in analyzing the impact of various deforestation scenarios on the electricity production of the Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant. The simulation results of the Bakaru hydroelectric power plant's monthly average electricity production tend to be greater when compared to the actual monthly average electricity production. The highest difference in electricity production from the Bakaru hydroelectric power plant for all scenarios occurs in the dry months with an average difference between 802,709.64–2,222,293.19 kWH.

Abstract

Sago is one of the staple foods of the people of Southwest Papua and is an important commodity supporting food security. Sago plants are spread across several villages in Makbon District. Along with increasing economic needs, there is a concern that the local wisdom of sago farmers will be eroded in their perspectives, attitudes, and actions towards the sago ecosystem. This study aims to describe ecological intelligence in the values of local wisdom of sago farmers in Makbon District. Data was collected in three sago processing locations: Teluk Dore Village, Baingkete Village, and Malaumkarta Village. The scope of the study includes traditions, perspectives, attitudes, behaviors, and local knowledge of sago farmers in maintaining the ecosystem and utilizing sago forest resources. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively. The results of the study showed several forms of local wisdom, including harvesting sago according to needs without excessive exploitation (egek tradition), maintaining and caring for sago groves wisely, and obeying ancestral messages not to burn grass around sago land to prevent sago forest fires (netal fugin oh). In addition, the involvement of all family members in the sago processing process provides experience for the next generation regarding sago processing techniques (ap solfagu). In general, the sago ecosystem in this area is maintained, and in Malaumkarta Village, sago cultivation efforts have been carried out by the community. The ecological intelligence of sago farmers in Makbon District is the main indicator in preserving the sago ecosystem to support sustainable food security.

Abstract

The Ciliwung River and the Ciliwung River Basin play an important role in the availability of water in the river basin and its surrounding areas. However, the sustainability of water availability in the Ciliwung River Basinrequires attention to threats such as drought. Research on the potential for drought is one step in anticipating water availability in the Ciliwung River Basinand its surrounding areas. Meteorological drought is a form of drought that can be detected through simple steps using rainfall data as the main data. With rainfall data, drought potential analysis can be carried out using 3-monthly SPI calculations, and statistical analysis of rainfall and its relationship to meteorological phenomena closely related to drought such as ENSO. Statistical analysis and SPI show that almost all observation points have indications of drought, namely Cibereum Bogor, Citeko, Gadog, Pinangsia, Ancol Pump, North Sunter Reservoir, Cempaka Baru, Bukit Duri, Manggarai and Kemayoran. In Katulampa, there are different analysis results, withstatistical analysis showings a decreasing trend in rainfall while the SPI results show normal values. This shows that overall statistical analysis and SPI can support each other. Almost all areas of the Ciliwung River Basinshow SPI values in the normal to dry category for October 2023 and increasingly dry in several points from November to December 2023, which are in Citeko, Depok, Cibereum, Gadog, Manggarai, and Kemayoran. However, SPI and statistical analysis have weaknesses, namely its dependence on the amount of rainfall observation data available.

Abstract

Land-use changes significantly impact watershed hydrology, including increased surface runoff and flood risk. This study uses the Soil Conservation Service–Curve Number (SCS-CN) method to evaluate the impact of land-use changes on the runoff coefficient (C) and flood runoff volume in the Keureuto Watershed in Aceh Province. . Land-use data were analyzed from four time periods: 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2024. Rainfall, soil type, and elevation data were used to calculate CN values, runoff volume, and the runoff coefficient. A land-use transition matrix was used to identify land use conversion patterns, and integrated them into a geographic information system (GIS) for spatial analyses. The results show significant increases in the area of settlements (82.9%), open land (77.4%), and shrubland (45.2%), while primary and secondary forests areas declined by 21.1% and 23.1%, respectively. These changes caused the Curve Number value to increase from 69.5 in 1990 to 71.9 in 2024. The spatial distribution analysis shows increases in areas with medium (28%) and high (6.5%) CN values. In line with the 46.6% increase in rainfall, the surface runoff volume increase from 1,704,979,578 m³ to 2,572,791,394 m³, or by 46.7%. In parallel, the runoff coefficient (C) increased from 0.928 to 0.955, indicating decreased infiltration capacity due to land use changes. These findings suggest that land-use changes directly increase CN and C values, contributing to higher surface runoff and flood risk in the Keureuto Watershed.

Abstract

Cavendish bananas, which are popular internationally, could boost Indonesian horticultural exports. PT. XYZ specializes in the cultivation of Cavendish bananas, has a banana plantation in Bondowoso Regency's Sampean Baru Watershed. Factors that must be considered to ensure that the cultivation process runs smoothly include the availability of sufficient water to support cultivation activities. This study aimed to determine the condition of the Sampean Baru Watershed water balance due to the existence of Cavendish banana plantations owned by PT. XYZ. This study involves calculating water availability using FJ. Mock model and calculating water needs, which include calculating the water needs of PT. XYZ's Cavendish banana plantation, agricultural water needs, domestic-non-domestic water needs, and livestock water needs in the Sampean Baru Watershed area. The data used include climatology data, rainfall data, plant data, watershed area data, Bondowoso Regency planting plan data, land cover maps, and soil type maps. The results show that the Sampean Baru Watershed can meet the current water needs of banana plantations and for development purposes. The water balance condition is in surplus in all months. The total water requirement for PT. XYZ's Cavendish banana plantation is currently 0.00976 m3/s. The total surplus generated is 301.86 m3/s, with the total water requirement for agriculture, domestic, non-domestic, and livestock being 44.189 m3/s. Development can be carried out until the Cavendish banana plantation is 13,230.24 ha in area, because the water balance is balanced under these conditions. It is recommended that development not exceed this value to anticipate a deficit condition.

Abstract

Land cover change is a global phenomenon influenced by social, economic, and governmental policy dynamics. Nagrak District, located around Mount Gede Pangrango National Park, has experienced significant changes due to policy shifts and population growth. This study aims to classify land cover classes, compare the classification methods used, and analyze land cover changes from 2017 to 2022. The methods used in this study include visual and digital classification. Visual classification using the on-screen digitizing method produced nine land cover classes with an accuracy of 94%, while digital classification using the random forest algorithm resulted in 89% accuracy. To improve accuracy, the results of both classifications were combined using the identity method, resulting in better and more accurate land cover classes. The analysis results show a positive change of 54,17 ha (0,78%), reflecting an increase in land function from unproductive to productive. Conversely, a negative change of 214,08 ha (3,10%) indicates pressure on land sustainability. This study provides an overview of land use dynamics, which can inform spatial planning and sustainable resource management.

Abstract

Coffee cultivation has enormous potential in the southern part of Bandung Regency, which includes the upstream area of the Citarum River Basin (DAS). This study aims to determine the potential for coffee development through agroforestry patterns with pine trees and mixed forests such as rasamala (Altingia excelsa) and puspa (Schima wallichii). This study uses the Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) method. Data collection was carried out using observation and interview methods. Respondents were the Forest Village Community Institution (LMDH), and key informants included LMDH Management, Perum Perhutani KPH South Bandung staff, extension workers, and coffee traders. Data were analyzed descriptively. The study results showed that farmer institutions had not been properly formed, market access was open but still limited, and government support needed to be increased in mentoring farmer groups. Other results showed that coffee development with an agroforestry pattern was better for the environment than other land uses such as monoculture farming. Although it contributes to farmers' income, coffee cultivation has not been able to become the main source of income for the majority of farmers. Mentoring, counseling, business capital and marketing assistance are needed to ensure that there is no conversion of forest land to other uses and to increase the added value of community coffee products.

Abstract

Barumun Bilah watershed covers large rivers, including the Bilah River and the Barumun River. These two rivers often overflow during the rainy season, causing the areas next to the rivers to be flooded. This research aims to map the distribution of flood-prone areas in the Barumun Bilah Watershed. This study utilized a geographic information system (GIS) to process DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data using the Topographic Wetness Index (TWI) method. The results of the analysis were in the form of a map depicting three classes of potential flooding in the area flowed by the Barumun Bilah Watershed, namely the high class covering an area of 247,524.40 ha, the medium category covering an area of 537,620.82 ha, and the low category covering an area of 513,558.70 ha. Bilah Hulu, Labuhanbatu, North Sumatera province, is the largest area in the high class flood potential category with an area of 24,711 ha. The resulting map provides spatial information that could be used as the basis for producing planning documents such as Regional Spatial Plans (RTRW), designing disaster risk mitigation strategies for the community, and determining flood control policies in sub-districts with a high TWI category

Abstract

As a form of traditional agroforestry, dusung provides numerous benefits regarding ecology, economy, and socio-culture in the Wai Batu Gajah Watershed in Ambon City, Maluku Province. The dusung management system is maintained by the local community and has become their traditional knowledge. It has the potential to support ecosystem sustainability. This research uses a SWOT approach to evaluate the internal and external factors influencing dusung agroforestry management and to develop priority strategies for sustainable management. The research was conducted in the upper part of the Wai Batu Gajah Watershed from September to October 2024. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving eight key informants representing the government sector, local communities (dusung owners), academics and religious leaders. Additionally, 30 dusung farmers were interviewed. Strategy analysis was carried out quantitatively using IFE, EFE, IE, SWOT, and QSPM matrices. The analysis results show that the internal factors score is 2.874 and the external factor score is 2.831. Therefore, the results of the xy axis combination place the position of dusung agroforestry in quadrant V, at the Hold and Maintain stage. The proposed priority strategy is to increase the effectiveness of strategic land through optimizing productive land, selecting superior seeds, using appropriate technology, and empowering farmers. Implementation of these strategies requires collaboration among the community, government, and private sector to support the sustainable management of dusung agroforestry. This study provides recommendations for policy development that support the sustainability of the Wai Batu Gajah Watershed ecosystem and improve community welfare.
