Abstract

This study examines gender representation in Islamic political rhetoric during Indonesia’s independence period, focusing on how women were portrayed in Islamic and nationalist discourses. The study aims to analyze the construction of women’s roles in Islamic political rhetoric during the 1940s and early 1950s, a period marked by the formation of Indonesia’s national identity and political system. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research. Data were collected from secondary sources, including scholarly journal articles, books, previous studies, and other academic publications related to Islamic politics, gender, and socio-political dynamics during the independence era. The data were analyzed through content analysis involving data reduction, thematic categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that women were represented in three dominant forms: as moral symbols of society, supporters of the national struggle, and guardians of the domestic sphere. These representations acknowledged women’s contributions to society and nation-building while simultaneously positioning them within family-oriented and moral responsibilities. The study concludes that Islamic political rhetoric during the independence period played an important role in shaping gender norms and public perceptions of women’s roles, while also reinforcing limitations on women’s participation in formal political spaces.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the history, religious traditions, and contribution of the Baiturrohim Ringinwok Mosque to the development of local Islamic civilization in Ringinwok, Purwoyoso, Ngaliyan, Semarang. This study uses a qualitative method with a field study approach through observation and interviews to obtain direct data from the mosque environment and the local community. The results show that although the early history of the mosque's establishment is not fully documented, its existence has long been a center of worship activities and religious education in the community. Religious traditions such as congregational prayers, Ramadan activities (tarawih, tadarus, khotmil Qur'an), tahlilan, and the recitation of Maulid Diba' are important parts of maintaining local religious identity. In addition, the mosque contributes to strengthening religious education through children's learning activities, Qiroati recitation, and studies for parents. These findings conclude that the Baiturrohim Mosque not only functions as a place of worship, but also as a center for moral, cultural, and social development that plays a vital role in maintaining the sustainability of local Islamic traditions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social conditions of the community surrounding Pucangan, Kartasura, as well as the institutional transformation process of the State Islamic College (STAIN) Surakarta into an institute and eventually into UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. Kartasura, as an area with historical significance and a strategic geographical position, has experienced significant changes in social, economic, and cultural aspects. This research employs the historical method, consisting of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. In addition, a social approach was applied through the use of archival sources, interviews, and literature studies to analyze the changes that have occurred over time. The findings reveal that the transformation in Kartasura has generated positive impacts, including increased economic activities, infrastructure development, and broader educational and employment opportunities for the local community. However, these transformations have also brought several challenges, such as shifts in local cultural values, increasing population density, and changes in patterns of social interaction within the community. Keywords: Transformation, Society, Pucangan.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social and cultural role of the Dzuriyah of Tegalsari in preserving the gedhok paper tradition in Tegalsari, Ponorogo, and to understand its meaning, practices, and preservation challenges in the modern era. The research employs a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method through observation and in-depth interviews with the Head of Tegalsari Village and Mr. Sawir as key informants. The findings show that gedhok paper is a cultural heritage closely linked to the literacy history of the Tegalsari Islamic boarding school and is still maintained through traditional production processes, raw material conservation, manuscript reproduction, and cultural socialization activities. The Dzuriyah of Tegalsari plays a central role in sustaining this tradition by transmitting cultural values, knowledge, and practices. However, the preservation faces challenges such as digital technological advancement, limited raw materials, low youth interest, and shifting economic orientation. The study concludes that the sustainability of the gedhok paper tradition requires collaboration between the community, local government, and younger generations to maintain it as a local cultural identity.

Abstract

This study discusses the dynamics of Islam during the Orde Baru ‘New Order’ era from 1966–1998, especially the relationship between Islam, the military, and the state. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development of Islamic political movements, the military’s dominance in politics, and the accommodative policies of the New Order government toward Muslims. This research uses a literature study method by examining books, journals, and historical documents related to Islam and politics during the New Order period. The results show that at the beginning of the New Order, Islamic political movements experienced marginalization and strict political control through policies such as party simplification, the implementation of Pancasila as the sole ideology, and military domination through the ABRI dual-function doctrine. However, since the late 1980s, the relationship between Islam and the state gradually became more harmonious. The emergence of moderate Muslim intellectuals and the accommodative attitude of the government opened wider opportunities for Muslims in politics, bureaucracy, and social life. This condition marked the revival of Islamic politics in a more substantive and inclusive form. In conclusion, the dynamics of Islam during the New Order reflected a transition from political repression to accommodation between the state, military, and Islamic groups.

Abstract

Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad Saw., mosques have served as centers for various activities, such as da’wah, education, deliberation, and, of course, worship. Indonesia has many long-standing mosques classified as historic mosques, such as the Miftahul Huda Kasiman Mosque in Bojonegoro, built in 1926, which is the subject of this study. This study aims to trace the history of the mosque’s establishment by Kiai Asfan, examine the development of the mosque’s architecture and the factors influencing it, and analyze the role or function of the mosque within the surrounding community. This is a qualitative study employing historiographical methodology for its historical analysis, alongside Architectural Theory and the Sociological Theory of Functionalism. The results indicate that the history of the Miftahul Huda Mosque began with a small prayer hall established in 1926 and transitioned into a mosque in 1945 in response to the growing needs of the congregation and the local socio-political context. Its architectural development reflects a continuity of local traditions alongside elements of renewal. Prior to the 2014 renovation, the mosque featured Javanese characteristics, whereas after 2014, it underwent a simplification of its form and the arrangement of its supporting elements and ornamentation. Functionally, the mosque serves as a center for worship as well as education, social integration, and the preservation of traditional values within the community of Bandar Hamlet, Batokan Village, Kasiman, Bojonegoro.
