Abstract

Life-threatening tragedies have the capacity to influence not only individuals but also to shape complex social dynamics within society. The Kanjuruhan tragedy is an illustrative example of how collective trauma can lead to psychological suffering for individuals and also have a profound impact on social identity and community structure. This study employs an interdisciplinary approach through a systematic literature review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, focusing on survivors of tragedy. The objective of this study is to expand the theoretical foundation concerning collective trauma, thereby encompassing psychological impacts, social disidentification, and shifts in group identity. The data were collected using the Publish or Perish 8 software from sources such as Crossref, OpenAlex, PubMed, Semantic Scholar, and Scopus. Initially, 753 articles were reviewed; however, only 29 were deemed relevant, and 19 of these were subsequently analyzed in depth. The extant research findings indicate that collective trauma can drive social disidentification when victims experience stigma, shame, or structural uncertainty. However, it can also strengthen solidarity and build a new collective identity if managed through an inclusive approach. The efficacy of healing processes is contingent upon the involvement of the community, inclusive forms of memorialization, and the implementation of restorative justice policies. These findings underscore the importance of strategies that integrate social support, local cultural values, and collective identity reconstruction in order to facilitate positive transformation from collective trauma. This research contributes to the theoretical literature on collective trauma and social disidentification.

Abstract

Parenting an autistic child is different from parenting a typical child; it requires extra attention from parents. Parents with autistic children tend to experience higher levels of parenting stress compared to parents with typical children or children with other disabilities. Parental mindfulness traits can reduce parenting stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between mindfulness traits and parenting stress in parents with autistic children. This study was a quantitative correlational study with 348 participants who were parents of autistic children. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique. This study used the Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale-Revised (CAMS-R) and the Parenting Stress Scale. The data analysis technique used a correlation test with the Pearson Product Moment formula. The results of the study showed that there was a significant negative relationship between mindfulness traits and parenting stress in parents who have autistic children. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the mindfulness trait, the lower the parenting stress felt by parents who have autistic children. The implication of this study is that parents are expected to improve their mindfulness traits by accepting their presence, loving and paying attention wholeheartedly and not judging their children's shortcomings, enjoying every experience in parenting, focusing on parenting and carrying out their roles as parents well, being sensitive and responsive to children's needs, and providing greater warmth and support to children.

Abstract

The gender divide issue has been part of the development of digital technology among women worldwide, including in Indonesia, where access to and ability to use digital technology tends to be a challenge for women. The tendency for access and capability increase in the use of digital technology tends to be greater for men. This also has an impact on work performance, where it is known that gender role conflict can cause stress at work and affect work performance. There seems to be limited research that examines gender role stress in the context of Balinese people who are digital economy actors, especially regarding whether the stress related to gender roles is felt, the dimensions that stand out, and whether it has an impact on individual work performance. This research was conducted on 53 digital economy actors from Bali who were obtained by applying snowball sampling. Data was obtained using the Feminine Gender Role Stress (FGRS) scale for female respondents and Masculine Gender Role Stress (MGRS) for male respondents. Work performance is measured using the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ). Data analysis uses the regression method with the Curve Estimation approach, where scatter plot evaluations will be carried out for each group to determine which pattern is suitable for each group. The research results show that gender role stress influences individual work performance, where the higher the stress, the lower the work performance. The dimensions of gender role stress that stand out in women are dimensions related to the assessment of appearance and motherhood, where these two dimensions intrinsically do not have components related to carrying out work outside the household context. Meanwhile, for men, this is a dimension of assessing intellectual ability.

Abstract

Working is not just for earning a living. There are three concepts of the meaning of work, namely that work is interpreted as a job, a career, or a calling. Anyone can understand the meaning of this job, including corpse handlers. The job of corpse handlers is not a common one to choose. Work encompasses three concepts: job, career, and calling. Corpse handlers face various physical and psychological risks, including infection, traumatic stress, and uncertain working hours. This research aims to describe the meaning of work for corpse handlers, considering the various risks faced by these workers. The job of corpse handlers is not a common choice, and the meaning of work can be owned by anyone, including corpse handlers. This research is a qualitative-phenomenological study, with the sampling technique used is non-random sampling, with the type of purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The method of data collection used observation techniques and in-depth interviews with 4 male informants who had worked for more than 7 years as corpse management officers. This study provides the result that the description of the meaning of work for the four informants initially varied according to the interests of the interviewees at the beginning of working as corpse handler, and continued with the meaning of work as a career, until finally interpreting the work of corpse handler as a calling or calling and job. The interpretation of the meaning for the corpse management officer is dynamic because it adapts to the factors that occur and influences the life of the resource persons. For further research, it is expected to involve female informants who work as caretakers of corpses, and informants who work in hospitals as corpse handler.

Abstract

Dating violence is a deep-seated issue that has significant impacts on its victims, especially among female students who live away from home. This study aims to explore the experiences of victims of dating violence using the photovoice method, which allows victims to express their experiences through photography. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with six female students who live away from home in Malang, Indonesia. The results showed that dating violence includes physical, psychological, behavioral control, and sexual coercion. Identified risk factors include patriarchal attitudes, promiscuity, and lack of understanding of dating violence, while protective factors include positive self-concept and social support. The impacts include psychological trauma, social isolation, and obstacles to self-development. This study highlights the role of social media in normalizing violence and the phenomenon of silent toxicity in relationships. Personalized interventions and broader education are needed to increase awareness and prevention of dating violence.

Abstract

Empirical research shows that infertility can lead to psychological and social impacts, as well as marital problems, creating a challenging situation for couples. The aim of this study is to deeply explore the concept of couple resilience in married couples experiencing infertility, as well as the factors that contribute to couple resilience. Couple resilience refers to the process by which couples engage Sin behaviors that support positive adaptation during stressful life situations. This study employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach involving three couples who meet the criteria of having been married for at least 12 months without having children, not delaying the arrival of children, and being between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Data were collected through interviews and observations, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that couples exhibit positive behaviors in coping with their infertility experience. The influencing factors include risk factors such as social issues, and protective factors such as a positive outlook, couple communication, spirituality, relationship flexibility, social support, maximizing daily togetherness, routines and rituals, financial management, and shared recreation. Balancing risk and protective factors ultimately enables couples to recover and face difficulties effectively.

Abstract

The School-to-Work transition is one of the crucial milestones during the developmental phase towards adulthood. This phase poses unique challenges for young people, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. This study explores the psychological well-being of underprivileged youth during their transition into the world of work. This research is a phenomenological study with data obtained through photo-elicitation interviews from three participants. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis is used to analyze the data.  The findings are presented through three main themes: (a) the school to work transition, encompassing their initial experiences in entering the labor market; (b) the state of psychological well-being; and (c) traces of self-change, which illustrate both adaptive and maladaptive responses developed throughout the transition. The study reveals that two participants became trapped in unfavorable working conditions and struggled to manage responsibilities in professional settings, further complicated by disharmonious relationships with colleagues, contributing to low job satisfaction. In addition, all three participants expressed difficulty in accepting their current life circumstances. These factors collectively impacted the psychological well-being of the participants.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks third among countries with the highest number of fatherless children. The lack of paternal involvement in a child's life can lead to various long-term negative impacts. The consistent presence and involvement of a father figure plays a fundamental role in shaping a child’s personal identity, enhancing social skills, and helping the child cope with emotional challenges. This study aims to explore the common characteristics found in children who experience fatherlessness, as well as how these characteristics are formed as a result of the absence of paternal involvement in parenting. The method used in this research is a systematic literature review by analyzing a number of scientific articles obtained through Google Scholar and ResearchGate using the keywords “Fatherless,” “Child Characteristics,” and “Indonesia.” Based on relevance criteria, 10 journals were selected as the primary sources for analysis. The findings indicate that children experiencing fatherlessness tend to display characteristics such as difficulty regulating emotions, aggression, lack of empathy, low self-trust and trust in others, dependency, and high resilience. These characteristics are influenced not only by the absence of a father figure but also by parenting styles, modeling from the primary caregiver, and the child’s social environment. This study contributes to a broader understanding of the impact of fatherlessness on child development and may serve as a foundation for designing psychological interventions to support fatherless children.

Abstract

Qualitatively, 15 national-level athletes were found to fear failure in facing a match. The fear experienced by national-level athletes also varies from one another. The importance of measurement of the concept of fear of failure in a competition, this initial study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument for measuring fear of failure specifically for athletes. The instrument construction method used is a rational/theoretical approach to test construction which describes the internal validity test of an instrument. The instrument developed is the Fear of Failure Scale-16, based on the theory of a figure named David E. Conroy. The participants were 108 national-level athletes from various sports who practised at one of the Sports Centers in Bandung. The data obtained were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis techniques and the Rasch model. The multidimensional confirmatory factor analysis shows all items are valid for measuring fear of failure. The Rasch model analysis also indicates that all qualified items meet the constraints. The application of the Fear of Failure-16 Scale cannot be generalized, but it is used to describe the condition of athletes before competing.
