Abstract

Teacher professional development is a critical component for enhancing educational quality, and the integration of deep learning technologies has emerged as a transformative tool, although its implementation presents challenges. This study aimed to analyze the acceptance and usage of deep learning technologies in professional development programs using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by investigating associated challenges and opportunities. Adopting a convergent parallel mixed-methods research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and surveys measuring Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) from 30 participants comprising teachers, school administrators, and policymakers. Qualitative data underwent thematic analysis, while quantitative survey data were analyzed descriptively. Key findings reveal significant challenges such as technological infrastructure gaps (including internet access issues and inadequate hardware), limited digital literacy (compounded by training complexity), and resistance to change (including fear of being replaced by AI). Conversely, opportunities include personalized learning paths (such as personalized training recommendations), enhanced pedagogical insights, and scalable training programs. Although stakeholders perceived deep learning platforms as generally useful and easy to use, concerns about practical usability among policymakers and the impact of external barriers persist. The study concludes that deep learning offers substantial potential, but its successful integration necessitates addressing these structural, systemic, and human-centric barriers. It also offers actionable insights for educators, policymakers, and technology developers to foster more effective and inclusive deep learning-enhanced professional development.

Abstract

Pesantren has a strategic role in building the national spirit in Indonesia, especially in forming a generation with morals and national insight. Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, one of the leading pesantren, implements an education system that integrates Islamic and national values in every aspect of learning. This study aims to analyse how the education system in Gontor shapes the national spirit of santri through curriculum, pesantren culture, and leadership activities. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with pesantren caregivers, teachers, and santri, and document analysis related to the curriculum and values taught in Gontor. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the findings. The results show that Gontor instills nationalism through various methods, such as character-based learning, discipline, and independence education, and extracurricular activities that foster a sense of unity and nationalism. The santri leadership system also plays an important role in shaping social responsibility and love for the country. In addition, the integration of Islamic values and nationalism in the curriculum teaches santri about the importance of maintaining the integrity of the nation within the Islamic frame. Thus, education in Gontor can be a model in building a generation that has a strong religious understanding and a high national spirit. Pesantren can contribute to strengthening national unity through value-based education. These findings provide a practical framework for integrating civic and religious education and contribute theoretically to the discourse on nationalism within Islamic educational contexts.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the influence of Android-based electronic comics on tenth-grade vocational students’ understanding of the concept of mixture separation. A quantitative approach within a quasi-experimental design is utilized to conduct the study., involving two groups: an experimental class using e-comics and a control class using conventional learning media. The research subjects were 10th grade students at SMKN 7 Kota Batam, while the object of research was students' conceptual understanding of mixture separation material. Data were collected using a conceptual understanding test administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the treatment.  The analysis of the data included normality and homogeneity tests, along with an independent samples t-test to evaluate differences in posttest outcomes between the experimental and control groups. Findings revealed that students in the experimental group achieved notably higher posttest scores than those in the control group. The t-test result was t (78) = 9.042 with a p-value of 0.000, which is below the 0.05 sig level, and the mean score difference was 14.800. These results confirm that the integration of Android-based e-comics sig enhanced students’ understanding of the concept.

Abstract

This study examines the governance framework of educational waqf in West Java, Indonesia, through a philosophical-empirical mixed method analysis. West Java, hosting the largest concentration of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, provides a critical case study for understanding waqf governance dynamics. Using quantitative descriptive analysis of 9,310 pesantren and qualitative exploratory discussion, this research reveals that West Java contains 49.4% of Java's Islamic boarding schools, with an estimated 10,884 waqf-based educational institutions managing 45,000 hectares of waqf land valued at 2.85 trillion IDR. The study identifies significant governance challenges including legal certification (85/100 severity index), management capacity (70/100), and financial transparency (65/100). Findings indicate that while West Java demonstrates substantial waqf utilization (78% rate), integrated governance frameworks are essential for optimizing educational waqf potential. The philosophical foundation of waqf, rooted in Islamic jurisprudence and maqasid al-shariah, requires contemporary govern models that balance traditional values with modern administrative efficiency. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of waqf governance while providing empirical evidence for policy development in Islamic educational finance.

Abstract

The growing concern over student behavior, including bullying, lack of empathy, and dishonesty, underscores the inadequacy of current character education practices in Indonesian elementary schools. This study aims to provide an empirical foundation and conceptual justification for a new instructional model Action Feeling Knowing (AFK) designed to improve character formation. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from ten teachers at SDN 1 Labuhan Ratu through observation instruments aligned with the five core PPK values: religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The results reveal an overall character competency score of 43.98%, with integrity and mutual cooperation being the weakest domains. Qualitative narratives highlight disconnection between moral teaching and real-life application, limited emotional engagement, and inconsistencies between school and home environments. In response, this study proposes the AFK strategy, which begins with student action, followed by emotional reflection and cognitive understanding. Supported by behaviorist, constructivist, and humanist theories, this reversed sequence better aligns with the developmental stage of primary students. A bibliometric analysis using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer confirms the limited scholarly attention to this specific model, reinforcing its originality. The study concludes that AFK holds promise as an actionable, integrated, and developmentally sensitive approach to character education, meriting further research and classroom-based implementation.

Abstract

This study explores how teachers across different educational levels in Indonesia perceive the ideal characteristics of a school principal. Using an exploratory descriptive design, data were gathered from 1,594 teachers in Lampung Province through an online semi-structured survey. The open-ended responses were thematically analyzed to identify the dominant traits teachers associate with effective leadership. Six recurring themes emerged: assertiveness, wisdom, nurturing, discipline, responsibility, and open-mindedness. However, the emphasis on each trait varied by school level. Elementary teachers prioritized emotional and nurturing leadership; junior high teachers emphasized firmness and structure, while senior high teachers favored democratic and wise leadership. Findings suggest that leadership expectations are shaped by contextual factors such as school level, teacher maturity, and institutional culture. These results align with Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and Hallinger’s instructional leadership model, highlighting the importance of adaptive, relationship-based leadership. The study calls for leadership development programs that are differentiated and context sensitive. By integrating teacher perspectives, educational leaders can better align their practices with school-specific needs, enhancing both teacher engagement and school climate.
