Abstract

The development of learning media in this research is part of the development of Sprechen A2 learning tools based on the case method and team-based project. The development model used is the Richey and Klein (2007) development model with planning, development, and evaluation stages. This research produced five sets of vocabulary cards played in groups. This game trains vocabulary mastery according to the A2 theme and sentence formation. The development results were reviewed by experts and given input. The results of the expert review stated that the developed game cards are suitable for use with a score of 92 or with a category of excellent. This result indicates that the word game cards are suitable for use. Expert input regarding adding vocabulary sets will be carried out as further development. The game cards are then played alternately in the Sprechen A2 learning class according to the discussion theme. At the end of the learning process, a questionnaire was distributed to students to determine their response to the use of game cards. The questionnaire contains five questions, all answered with 100% agreement. This means that the student response is positive and worthy of further development

Abstract

Extensive research on speaking English as a foreign language has been carried out in the last decades. However, little is known about the exploration of speaking anxiety experienced by pre-service English teachers situated at a private Islamic institute, particularly in the Indonesian setting. This case study aimed to investigate the factors that influence six pre-service English teachers’ anxiety in speaking English and how they overcome such hindrances. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis, including (1) familiarizing we with the talking data, (2) creating transcripts from the data, (3) reading the transcripts multiple times, (4) creating codes for salient data, (5) creating categories from the codes, and (6) creating themes from the categories. The analysis reveals factors that influence the participants’ speaking anxiety, including 1) feeling embarrassed, 2) fear of mistakes, 3) lack of confidence, 4) feeling nervous, and 4) rarely speaking. In addition, the participants enacted multiple ways of alleviating their anxiety when teaching, such as asking motivation from friends, starting the class with English, engaging, students in a game-based learning, preparing materials before the class, and asking students to focus on the class

Abstract

This study aims to explore how implementing a reflective learning model affects students' metacognitive awareness in the context of Islamic Religious Education. A single-group pretest-posttest experimental design was employed, involving 62 participants divided into experimental and control groups. Data were gathered using a metacognitive awareness questionnaire comprising 20 items. The findings from the t-test analysis with a significance level of 0.001 revealed a significant disparity in metacognitive awareness between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group, which utilized the reflective learning model, exhibited a considerably more significant enhancement in metacognitive awareness compared to the control group that employed a traditional learning model. These suggest that using a reflective learning model positively influences students' metacognitive awareness in the context of Islamic Religious Education. The implications of this research emphasize the necessity of integrating reflective learning models into the teaching practices of Islamic Religious Education to promote students' metacognitive awareness

Abstract

The Tamiang Islamic Kingdom is one of the oldest kingdoms on the east coast of Aceh, bordering Haru Bay and Kampai Island of Pangkalan Susu. Its north serves as the front line of defense in the Malacca Strait, part of the sovereignty of the Samudra Pasai Islamic Kingdom, in the 12th century AD. In 1350, the country of Tamiang faced the challenge of the expansion of Majapahit commandeered by Patih Gaja Mada, who wanted to unite all regions in the archipelago following the "Palapa Oath" during the authority of King Hayam Wuruk Mahapatih Ratu Tribhu-wanatunggadewi. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method, then collected data through literature study, document analysis, and utilizing historical evidence of the Tamiang kingdom on the east coast of Aceh. The results showed that the students' poor skills in reading and analyzing historical sources were due to the lack of usage of historical evidence as a source of local history learning. Therefore, this research also contributes to the adoption of historical evidence of the Tamiang kingdom on the east coast of Aceh as a historical learning source for high school students to improve the Use of Primary Source Evidence skills.
