Abstract

This study aims to reveal the views of kindergarten teachers about science learning, the form of activities, the methods used, and the difficulties faced. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews with six kindergarten teachers who were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles & Huberman. The results showed: 1) all teachers were of the view that science learning in childhood was very important to implement, 2) activities in science learning are carried out according to the learning theme, but two out of six teachers add activities spontaneously and follow natural phenomena, 3) the children's most preferred experimental method when doing science activities, and 4) difficulties faced by the teacher regarding tools and materials.

Abstract

The complexity of science topics makes it difficult for students to understand all science concepts correctly. Mobile devices can help students to be more focused and efficient in learning. The study aimed to develop the android - based mobile application about the earth layer and include its natural disaster concept. The development model used was the 4D Model. This research produces a product in the form of Earth Panel Cellular Application. The expert validation average score of 3.38, which is in the excellent category, shows that the earth layer application is suitable for usage. The application's effectiveness can be quite effective in enhancing students’ cognitive learning outcomes based on the gained sig. The significance of application is said to be quite effective in improving cognitive learning outcomes with a value of 0.000 less than 0.05

Abstract

This study investigated the types of vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) employed by Indonesian college students. The study specifically aimed to find out (a) the most and the least frequently used VLS, and (b) the most useful VLS. A total of 105 nursing students who attended a virtual exchange program during the odd semester of 2021/2022 academic year participated in this study. This was ex post facto research which used a vocabulary learning strategy questionnaire to collect the data. To answer research questions, the collected data were analyzed by using SPSS statistics 25.0, including the descriptive statistics. The overall findings revealed that in terms of five categories, determination strategies were reported to be the most frequently used strategies and social strategies were the least ones. In terms of individual strategies, the most frequently used vocabulary learning strategies were ‘using bilingual dictionaries either print or electronic’, ‘guessing word meaning through the context’, and ‘learning new vocabulary items through vocabulary videos”. The least frequent ones were ‘asking the word’s synonym to the teacher’ and ‘communicating with native speakers. Furthermore, the participants assumed that ‘using bilingual dictionaries either print or electronic’ and ‘taking notes of new words’ as the most useful strategies. Considering the results, both students and lecturers must be more aware of the effective learning strategies to achieve better results

Abstract

STAI (Islamic Higher Education) Denpasar Bali is the only Islamic religious college in Denpasar City. As a university located among most of the Hindu community, this institution has a special course, namely memorizing section 30 of Al-Qur'an in Balinese translation, as a form of implementation of an ethnopedagogy approach. This study aims to describe the ethnopedagogy of STAI Denpasar Bali during section 30 of Al-Qur'an memorization in Balinese translation. This study used the descriptive qualitative method, and the data was collected through unstructured interviews with informants. For the informants, we involved the Head of STAI Denpasar Bali, the Head of the Academic Sector, the coordinator of memorizing section 30 of the Al-Qur'an course, the lecturer of the Al-Qur'an to Balinese translation course, students, relevant stakeholders, and Aswaja Dewata as well as the General Chair of the Indonesia Clerical Council (MUI) in Bali. Our findings suggested that 1) this course has only been implemented for two years since 2020 to participate in preserving local wisdom and symbols of the Islamic religion in Bali. In practice, this course consists of memorizing section 30 of Al-Qur'an, and translations in Balinese, which are carried out at different times and by different tutors, 2) Ethnopedagogy in the Qur'an section 30 translation course of Balinese language is taught by internalizing cultural values and language levels, and 3) actualization of Balinese language in the Qur'an section 30 Balinese language aim to recultivate the recently degraded Balinese language

Abstract

Learning in madrasah tends to teach concepts and materials related to that science alone, without paying attention to other sciences. Thus, there is a need for innovation in learning that can link various fields of science, one of which is by applying integration-interconnection-oriented learning. The research aims to develop insights into integrated-interconnected mathematical learning modules with a scientific approach to rational and irrational materials of one variable is valid. The type of research used is research and development (R&D). This research was designed by following the steps of Richey and Klein's development, namely the PPE development model (Planning, Production, and Evaluation). The instrument used is a product validation assessment sheet given to two expert validators. The results showed that the integrated-interconnection-oriented mathematics learning module with a scientific approach that had been developed got an average product validity score of 0.82 with a high category. Thus, it can be concluded that this learning module has met the valid criteria.

Abstract

Writing scholarly papers that meet international standards, such as those indexed by Scopus, has been a source of concern for lecturers at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatra Utara (UIN SU) Me-dan, thus, became one of the factors that prompted this study. Employing R and D approach through ADDIE model, this research involved 20 lecturers from different educational backgrounds, skills, and units that represented the demographic site of UIN SU Medan as the participants. The results showed that the effective steps of training program for UIN SU Medan lecturers include the followings: 1) Conducting the training program for at least seven meetings; 2) Going through all the six steps of training; 3) Identifying the targeted journals; 4) Going through peer re-viewing process; 5) Improving writing ability: and the last, 6) changing perception. Those findings concluded that an effective training model that is also suitable for the lecturers’ needs is a training model that is like the findings of this study

Abstract

The present study focuses on the implement of online learning in special education and how Information and Telecommunications Technology being used to strengthen and support the achievement of learning and the learning goals at special needs junior high school students (SMPLB) Jambi. The research method used in this study is a case study where the researchers observe how the patterns and processes of online education in the learning of SMPLB students, distributing questionnaires on the use of ICT to the teachers, interviews with parents/guardians of the students, and interviews with special junior high school teacher Sri Soedewi Maschun Sofyan, S.H Jambi. The results of the research indicate that the students in special needs schools have difficulty in obtaining technology that suits with their needs in learning. The learning process cannot be carried out as expected because the teachers have difficulty in making technology-based learning materials for the students, especially for students with the deaf and the blind. Reading and writing skills are also very limited, and the student learning is very low because the online method greatly limits opportunities for direct interaction between the students and the teachers. The involvement of parental assistance is also very low because the parents do not understand how to aid with children in online learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the achievement of the mastery of science process skills of students who are trained in integrated learning disaster risk reduction efforts. This research is an experimental research design with one sample control group design. The sample in this study were 60 students of 7th grade student in SMP N 2 Cangkringan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. SMP N 2 Cangkringan is located near Merapi Mountain areas. Science process skills data were obtained using a process skills observation sheet that was filled in by the observer. Data analysis was performed descriptively. The results shows that the scientific process skills profile of students who were trained together with the training of volcanic eruption disaster mitigation increased at each meeting. The most significant improvement was observing, followed by predicting skills, communicating skills, and drawing conclusions
