Abstract

Background of study: Digital technology is now the main supporter of modern learning, with the internet and various digital media as popular learning resources that have great potential in increasing the effectiveness of the learning process. Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to understand students' responses in using digital media as a learning resource and to examine its impact on improving their critical thinking skills towards social media. Methods: This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach and data analysis to describe the phenomena studied systematically. Data were collected using a questionnaire, then analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to describe the results systematically and structured. Results: The results of the study show that social media is used by students as a source to find references related to lecture materials and references to work on assignments independently. Students said that social media as a source of independent learning has negative impacts, such as facilitating copy paste or plagiarism and causing laziness in thinking, which has the potential to weaken critical thinking skills. However, social media can also encourage critical skills by forcing students to choose accurate and reliable information. Conclusion: The study shows that social media helps students find useful references, making it easier to understand materials and complete tasks. While it can lead to copy-pasting and reduced critical thinking, it also encourages students to choose reliable information, improving their analytical skills. The study highlights the need for students to use digital media effectively, critically assess information, and develop paraphrasing skills for better learning and critical thinking.

Abstract

Background of study: Motivation plays a crucial role in determining students’ engagement and achievement in physical education, including in adaptive contexts for students with disabilities. However, empirical evidence examining the relationship between motivation and learning outcomes in swimming, particularly among hearing-impaired students, remains limited, especially within specialized educational settings. Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to investigate the correlation between motivation and breaststroke swimming learning outcomes among hearing-impaired students at SLB Negeri Surakarta during the 2022/2023 academic year, as well as to determine the strength and significance of this relationship within an adaptive physical education context. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach with a simple correlational design. The study was conducted at SLB Negeri Surakarta, an accredited special needs school. Data were collected using validated instruments, with reliability confirmed by a coefficient ≥ 0.7. The relationship between variables was analyzed using the Kendall Tau-B correlation coefficient through SPSS software. Results: The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between motivation and breaststroke swimming learning outcomes, indicated by a Kendall Tau-B coefficient of 0.657 and a significance value of 0.009 (p < 0.05). These results suggest that higher levels of motivation are significantly associated with better swimming performance among hearing-impaired students. Conclusion: This study confirms that motivation is a key determinant of learning success in adaptive physical education. The findings support the integration of motivational strategies to enhance skill acquisition among students with hearing impairments. Therefore, educators are encouraged to apply structured motivational approaches, while policymakers should prioritize support for training and resources in inclusive physical education settings.

Abstract

Background of study: Healthy lifestyle practices are an essential component of Physical Education (PJOK), particularly for prospective teachers who are expected to become role models for their students. However, previous studies indicate a discrepancy between health awareness and actual behavior among university students. Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to examine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and healthy lifestyle behaviors among students of the Primary School Teacher Education Program (PGMI) at UIN Salatiga. Methods: A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 112 students who completed a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, particularly mean scores. Results: The findings show that students have high levels of health knowledge, particularly regarding the benefits of physical activity (M = 4.74), balanced nutrition (M = 4.70), and awareness of the role of teachers as health role models (M = 4.57). Students also demonstrate positive attitudes toward healthy living. However, the implementation of healthy behaviors remains moderate, especially in routine health check-ups (M = 3.14) and regular exercise habits (M = 3.34), indicating a gap between knowledge, attitudes, and actual practices. Conclusion: The study concludes that although students possess strong knowledge and positive attitudes, these are not consistently reflected in their behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen behavioral support, self-regulation, and environmental factors within Physical Education learning to promote sustainable healthy lifestyle practices among future teachers.

Abstract

Background of study: Self-confidence is a critical psychological factor that influences athletic performance, particularly in Paralympic sports where athletes encounter both physical and mental challenges. Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to examine the influence of social support (namely coach, family, and peer support) on the self-confidence of Paralympic weightlifting athletes. Methods: A quantitative survey design was employed, involving athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results: The findings indicate that all variables are in the high to very high category, with coach support demonstrating the highest mean score, followed by self-confidence and peer support. Family support shows relatively lower scores, particularly in emotional support during failure or injury. Correlation analysis reveals that coach and peer support have strong positive relationships with self-confidence, while family support shows a moderate relationship. Regression results confirm that all three variables significantly predict self-confidence, with coach support emerging as the most dominant factor. Conclusion: This study concludes that a multidimensional social support system (particularly coach support) plays a critical role in shaping self-confidence among Paralympic weightlifting athletes. The integration of coach, peer, and family support significantly enhances athlete self-efficacy, highlighting the importance of a holistic psychosocial environment to sustain confidence and competitive resilience in elite disability sports.

Abstract

Background of study: Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) are essential for children's physical development and long-term participation in physical activity. However, increasing sedentary behavior among children has contributed to a decline in motor competence worldwide. Aims and scope of paper: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the traditional Indonesian game Engklek in improving locomotor skills among elementary school students. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest was employed involving 26 third-grade students (14 boys and 12 girls) from MI Al Hikmah Sendang, Indonesia. The experimental group (n = 13) participated in an Engklek-based intervention program consisting of eight sessions conducted over four weeks, while the control group (n = 13) followed the regular physical education curriculum. Locomotor skills were assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). Results: The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s mean score from 70.40 to 87.29 (p < .001), whereas the control group demonstrated only a slight increase. An Independent Samples t-test confirmed a significant difference between groups at post-test (t = 3.997; p < .001). Conclusion: The study concludes that the Engklek game is an effective and culturally relevant play-based intervention for improving locomotor competence in elementary school students. Integrating traditional games into physical education may provide a cost-effective strategy to promote motor development while preserving cultural heritage.

Abstract

Background of study: Gender stereotypes continue to significantly influence educational management, particularly within the context of religious-based primary schools.Aims and scope of paper: This study aims to analyze how gender-based perceptions dictate the assignment of non-specialist class teachers as Physical Education instructors in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Methods: Employing a qualitative descriptive case study, research was conducted at a private Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Salatiga. Data were gathered through participatory observation, documentation, and semi-structured interviews with male and female class teachers representing both lower and upper grade levels. Results: Findings reveal a systematic segregation where female teachers are exclusively assigned to lower grades based on nurturing stereotypes. In contrast, male teachers dominate upper grades due to perceived physical authority and masculine dominance. This distribution is driven by social role expectations rather than formal professional competence. The analysis indicates that these practices reproduce traditional gender schemas within the sports field, limiting teachers' professional development and reinforcing gender biases among students. Madrasah management tends to rely on intuitive gender roles rather than pedagogical standards, creating an invisible barrier to female educators in athletic instruction. Conclusion: The study concludes that such stereotypical assignments undermine the inclusivity of physical education. It implies an urgent need for gender-responsive managerial policies and cross-gender teacher rotations to dismantle these ingrained biases. This research contributes a significant perspective on the mechanism of gender reproduction within Islamic primary education management.
