Abstract

Digital entrepreneurship has become a key driver of business innovation and economic transformation in emerging economies. However, existing studies have primarily focused on entrepreneurs or firms, providing limited understanding of how broader institutional environments collectively shape digital entrepreneurship ecosystems. This study aims to explore the characteristics of digital entrepreneurship ecosystems in emerging economies by synthesizing evidence from government and industry reports. A qualitative research design employing Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) was adopted to systematically examine publicly available documents published by government agencies, international organizations, and industry institutions between 2020 and 2025. The analysis identified five major ecosystem dimensions: institutional support, digital infrastructure, human capital development, innovation networks, and financial accessibility. These dimensions interact dynamically to facilitate digital business innovation and create an enabling environment for entrepreneurial growth. The findings suggest that digital entrepreneurship is not solely influenced by individual entrepreneurial capabilities but is fundamentally embedded within an interconnected ecosystem involving governments, educational institutions, financial organizations, technology providers, and innovation intermediaries. This study contributes to the literature by extending digital entrepreneurship research from a firm-level perspective toward an ecosystem-based perspective and by demonstrating the value of qualitative content analysis of secondary documentary sources for theory development. The proposed conceptual framework provides practical insights for policymakers and business support organizations seeking to strengthen digital entrepreneurship ecosystems and promote sustainable digital business innovation in emerging economies.

Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) has emerged as a transformative technology that is reshaping digital business innovation by enabling organizations to enhance creativity, optimize decision-making, redesign business models, and improve operational efficiency. Despite the rapid growth of research in this area, existing studies remain fragmented across different business contexts and disciplines, limiting a comprehensive understanding of its strategic role. This study aims to synthesize the current body of knowledge on Generative AI for digital business innovation through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus and published between 2024 and 2026 were systematically identified, screened, and analyzed using thematic content analysis. A total of 50 articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis. The analysis identified six interconnected themes: Business Innovation, Organizational Capability, Organizational Intelligence, Human–AI Collaboration, Responsible AI Governance, and Business Performance. The findings indicate that Generative AI functions not merely as an automation technology but as a strategic organizational capability that supports sustainable digital transformation and competitive advantage. This review contributes by proposing an integrated conceptual framework that explains how Generative AI creates organizational value through the interaction of technological capability, organizational readiness, knowledge management, innovation capability, governance, and human collaboration, while also identifying key research gaps and directions for future studies.

Abstract

The convergence of digital transformation and environmental sustainability—termed the "Twin Transition"—presents both strategic opportunities and paradoxes for early-stage technology ventures. While digital startups possess structural agility, they often struggle to reconcile rapid economic scaling with ecological stewardship under severe resource constraints. This study addresses this tension by examining how digital startups architect green business model innovation through specialized organizational capabilities and platform ecosystems. Employing a qualitative literature synthesis based on 26 peer-reviewed articles, this research integrates Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT) with digital platform governance perspectives. The findings reveal that successful sustainable startups develop "Green-Digital Dynamic Capabilities" across three micro-foundations: green sensing, green seizing, and green transforming. Furthermore, digital platform architectures act as core enablers by driving dematerialization, eco-optimized delivery, and outcome-based value capture. These synthesized dimensions are unified into a novel conceptual model: the Sustainable Digital Startup Architecture (SDSA) framework. Ultimately, this study offers startup founders an actionable roadmap for building born-green digital ventures and provides impact investors with qualitative frameworks to evaluate sustainable tech ventures.

Abstract

Sustainable Digital Business Innovation: Integrating Circular Economy and Industry 4.0 Paradigms. The modern global business landscape is undergoing an unprecedented and complex twin transition, driven by the rapid, disruptive development of Industry 4.0 technologies and the critical, existential need for sustainable Circular Economy (CE) models. As ecological crises deepen and resource scarcity threatens traditional linear economic models (take-make-dispose), organizations are compelled to innovate. Simultaneously, the digital revolution offers tools of unprecedented power. This comprehensive study conducts an in-depth Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to thoroughly explore the intersection of these two macro-paradigms and their profound impact on digital business innovation. Analyzing an extensive body of contemporary research, this paper meticulously identifies how advanced technologies—such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics (BDA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Digital Twins, and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS)—act as fundamental catalysts for sustainable business model innovation. These technologies enable unprecedented resource efficiency, extended product lifecycles, closed-loop supply chains, and the dematerialization of value propositions through servitization. The expanded findings present a highly detailed conceptual framework mapping specific technological enablers to the 9R Circular Economy strategies (Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle, Recover). Furthermore, the study outlines the primary multidimensional barriers—organizational, financial, technological, and regulatory—inhibiting this integration. Ultimately, the study provides significant theoretical advancements and actionable practical contributions to guide managers, industry leaders, and policymakers in leveraging technology-enabled transformations to achieve resilient, sustainable competitive advantage in the 21st century.

Abstract

Financial Technology (FinTech) has emerged as a disruptive force, fundamentally altering the global e-business landscape by modernizing transaction systems, fostering financial inclusion, and eliminating friction in online buyer-seller interactions (Thakor, 2020). Despite the rapid proliferation of FinTech solutions—ranging from mobile payment gateways and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) schemes to blockchain-based smart contracts—there remains a fragmented understanding of how these innovations systematically drive strategic value creation within e-business models. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA framework to synthesize existing academic literature from the past five years (2021–2026) (Al-Sharafi et al., 2023). By analyzing 25 high-impact, peer-reviewed journal articles across major databases (Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect), this research addresses four key research questions. First, it identifies the dominant FinTech solutions currently shaping e-business ecosystems. Second, it investigates how FinTech adoption enhances operational efficiency, user experience, and transaction security. Third, it outlines the critical strategic and technological challenges—such as cybersecurity vulnerabilities and regulatory compliance—that arise during integration. Finally, it highlights emerging trends and research gaps, notably the rise of AI-driven embedded finance in cross-border e-commerce. The findings culminate in a structural classification matrix that maps FinTech capabilities against e-business performance metrics. This study contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive conceptual framework and offers actionable managerial guidelines for e-business practitioners seeking to leverage modern FinTech stacks to achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
