Abstract

The role of Campus Television (TV) in a university can integrate human resources and audio visual laboratory facilities in each faculty, especially to face today’s digital communication era. The objectives of this study were: (1) to determine the academic community's needs for Campus Television media in Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) based on faculties, and the academicians status and (2) to map program types broadcasted by the Campus TV in UNY that were expected by UNY academic community. A survey to the academic community in UNY (consisted of lecturers, employees, and students) was conducted as the research method. Electronic-based questionnaires and smartphones with Google form applications were used as the technique in the data collection. The research subjects were 409 respondents. The data analysis technique was descriptive quantitative. This study concluded that (1) lecturer who agreed and doubted about the existence of Campus TV in UNY were 97.33%, and 2.66% respectively; (2) Employees who agreed was 100%; and (3) Students who agreed, doubted, and disagreed about the existence of Campus TV in UNY were 92.63%, 6.31%, and 1.02% respectively. Campus TV broadcasting programs required by the academic community in UNY included: (1) innovative work programs, (2) campus information, (3) campus activity programs (community service, teaching practice, conference), (4) talk show and (5) skills program. This study provided encouragement to academic community of UNY to support the realization of Campus TV as the integrated laboratory for learning technology.

Abstract

This study determines the effect of the Work-Based Learning (WBL) model on achievement motivation of students in the Study Program of Mechanical Engineering at Vocational High Schools (VHS) compared to the Training Within Industry (TWI) model. This study used a quasi-experimental research method with a factorial design in two groups of XII grade vocational high school students of mechanical engineering. The data in the form of achievement motivation was collected using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using two way Anova technique with α of 0.05. The results showed that (1) the students taught using the WBL model had a significantly higher achievement motivation than the achievement motivation of students taught using the TWI model; (2) students with high prior knowledge had a significantly higher achievement motivation than the achievement motivation possessed by students with moderate and low prior knowledge; and (3) there is an interaction between the use of learning models and students' prior knowledge towards students' achievement motivation. The findings indicated that the WBL model has the potential to improve the quality of learning outcomes of vocational education, especially in increasing students' achievement motivation, compared to traditional learning using the TWI model.

Abstract

Gong Kebyar is one of the group of Balinese music that has five pelog tones which the playing technique using kebyar system. Gong Kebyar serves the instrumental performances, accompanying various types of dances, and accompanying Himdu's religious ceremonial activities in Bali. But not many young people can play the gong kebyar due to lack of adequate facilities. One effort that can be done is to utilize virtual reality technology as an instructional media for playing Gong Kebyar. The purpose of the study was to design and implement the design of Gamelan Gong Kebyar based on Virtual Reality. The development of the Gamelan Gong Kebyar Game based on Virtual Reality was implemented using the ADDIE model. The main feature of this game was playing the gamelan Gong Kebyar instrument, besides that there is a feature playing the instrument accompanied by the song so that the player could feel the situation of playing it in form of sekaa. The design is using a functional model which is UML (Unified Modeling Language) and implemented using programming language C# which edited by MonoDevelop-Unity. The results of this study is a Gong Kebyar application based on virtual reality which is operated with a computer and HTC VIVE VR device. All features in this application function properly. With this application, the community can learn to play Gong Kebyar with the results of the user response test obtaining a value of 91%, which means it is included in the excellent category.

Abstract

Teachers must have three major components, including content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and pedagogical content knowledge. A teacher of Technology and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has an important role in the learning process of students in vocational education because the quality of teachers determines that of graduates of vocational schools. Therefore, the teacher candidates in TVET must have work experiences in the industry, so that they produce students who have high quality and can compete in the labour market. The teacher candidates must be prepared through a process of quality education to become professional teachers in the future. Providing professional fashion teacher candidates is not easy, for it takes a certain curriculum content and long processes. With literature review method with head-to-head approach, the paper aims to understand how to provide professional teachers for fashion department. Furthermore, the curriculum of fashion teacher candidates in Taiwan and Indonesia, the line of becoming professional TVET teacher, and future framework for establishing professional teachers in Indonesia were discussed

Abstract

This study developed and validated a multimedia package for the teaching of Electrical/Electronic component of Basic Technology at the upper basic education level. It was a developmental research design. The area for this study is Kano state, North-Western Nigeria. The population consists of 291 Basic Technology teachers, out of this, 10 Basic Technology teachers, 5 instructional technologist and 5 computer specialists were purposely selected for the product evaluation based on four instruments. The findings revealed that design procedures were followed in the development of the Electricity/Electronics component of Basic Technology Instructional Package (EECOBTIP); EECOBTIP have adequately covered the curriculum content of the subject matter; EECOBTIP have met required instructional technology standards; and EECOBTIP have met the required technical standards. The study therefore recommends amongst others that Basic Technology teachers should be encouraged to prepare some aspects of their lessons in electronic form; EECOBTIP should be utilized for classroom instruction especially when teaching the Electricity/Electronics component of Basic Technology; and that similar packages should be developed for the other aspects of Basic Technology curriculum.

Abstract

Preliminary study in Trenggalek city showed that there was a mismatch between the students’ skills learned at vocational high schools with their fields of work. It indicated that the role of vocational career center as a mediator between school and industry have not maximally yet. This study aimed to (1) describe how the vocational career center do its jobdesk, (2) categorize its performance, and (3) find the deficiency from the implementation of a career center in vocational high schools. The data analysis used a descriptive analysis from both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The result of study showed that the jobdesk of career center were collecting graduates databases, grouping the students who want to look for a job or study to higher education, and facilitating the students and world of work in the labour recruitment process. The performance of career center in Trenggalek Regency was good. From some predictors, those were job vacancy information, cooperation with world of work, alumni networking, data collection, communication between alumni, and alumni contribution, the career center’s aspect that need to be upgraded was the cooperation with the world of work.

Abstract

This study aimed at developing a test instrument to asses prospective vocational teachers’ critical thinking skills on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming. This research and development study produced the test instrument that had been trialled to 68 Indonesian electrical engineering education prospective teachers at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The method used was Research and Development by referring to the revised Bloom method and the adjusted Facione model. The instrument consisted of 40 items that were further analyzed using a classical test and item response approaches. Students' responses were analyzed using the computer program of a Test Analysis Program and ConQest. The item difficulty of classical test theory was represented by p value revealed based on prospective teachers’ correct answers. Parameter b referred to location parameter that conveyed the position of the item’s characteristic curve in relation to the ability scales. The benefit of this study was it can measure the level of critical skills, especially on the subject of PLC programming. The existing instruments only measure PLC programming skills in general but have not yet specifically reached the measurement of critical skills level.
