Abstract

(Title: Needs Analysis of Learning Materials For French Academic Writing). This study aims to describe the needs of material for French academic writing courses. it shows 66.70% of respondents need to learn specific grammar to increase its effectiveness; 54.20% of respondents need special learning about essential terms for linguistic, literary or language teaching; 79.20% think that specialised terminology is needed to write research background. 54.20% thought that writing practice was very necessary, while 70.80% hoped there would be reading cativity for some scientific articles. 53.40% of respondents consider it necessary to master the logical connector of French. In addition, 50% of respondents think that a French scientific writing course is required and 25% want this to be mandatory. 62.50% expect this course to have at least 3 credits: 1 credit for writing theory and 2 credits for writing practice. Abstract

This article is about a research study conducted to describe and clarifypoliteness in speech acts using Indonesian in the talk done during a lesson in theclassroom at SMA PMT Hamka, a senior high school in Padang Pariaman,Sumatra Barat, focusing on representations of (1) the forms of politeness in thespeech acts, (2) the functions of politeness in the speech acts, and (3) the strategiesof using politeness in the speech acts. It was a case study with communicationethnography and pragmatics as its starting points. The data consisted of two types:data from utterances and data from field notes. The two types of data, compiled bymeans of recordings, observations, and interviews, were analyzed with aninteractive model of analysis.The research findings are as follows. First, in the context ofrepresentations of the forms of speech-act politeness, it is found that (a) suchrepresentations using Indonesian use the declarative, interrogative, and imperativemodes, (b) the use of the declarative mode represents command, request, advice,and praise, (c) the use of the interrogative mode represents requesting, asking forwhat students have promised, clarifying whether students have understood, andgiving a warning, (d) the use of the imperative mode represents invitation to dosomething, request, and command, (e) a softening of the illocution power is foundin utterances using the declarative and interrogative modes so that the utterancesare felt to be polite, (f) utterances using the interrogative mode, however, tends tohave a strengthening effect on the illocution power so that the utterances are feltless polite. Second, in the context of representations of the functions of speech-actpoliteness, it is found that (a) the functions of politeness in directive acts consist ofrequesting, permitting, advising, commanding, and forbidding functions and (b)the functions of politeness in expressive acts consist of praising and thankingfunctions. Third, in the context of representations of the strategies of speech-actpoliteness, it is found that (a) utterances can be direct, realized in completeimperative form and imperative form with incomplete phrase and (b) utterancescan be indirect by (1) being with expressions of politeness used in a positive way,(2) being with expressions of politeness used in a negative way, and (3) beingunclear.Keywords: politeness, speech act, directive, expressive, classroom instruction120

Abstract

The study aims at developing a valid and reliable test to measure students' Englishpronunciation mastery. To meet the objective, two kinds of instruments were developed,namely recognition and production tests. The instruments were tried out to students fromthree pronunciation classes, and the results were then analyzed through validity andreliability tests and an item analysis. Statistical analyses showed that the instruments wereunsatisfactory and needed revisions. After some revisions and try-outs, the revisedinstruments proved to be valid and reliable with reliability coefficients of 0.940 for theproduction test and 0.889 for the recognition test, and difficulty indices of 0.538(moderate) and 0.546 (moderate) respectively.Keywords: pronunciation, validity, reliability, difficulty indices

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan identitas diaspora dan hibriditas tokoh utama dalam kedua karya amatan. Sumber data penelitian adalah roman Salah Asuhan karya Abdoel Moeis dan Keberangkatan karya Nh. Dini. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara membaca objek amatandengan tahapan survei, terpilah dan terpilih. Analisis data dilakukan dengan memilah kategorisasi mana yang termasuk ke dalam diaspora dan mana yang termasuk ke dalam hibriditas. Setelah memilah kategorinya, data tersebut dipaparkan dengan teknik deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (l) bentuk hibriditas tokoh Hanafi dalam roman Salah Asuhan karya Abdoel Moeis dan tokoh Elisabet Frissart dalam novel Keberangkatan karya Nh. Dini meliputi: a)  hibriditas bahasa, b) hibriditas sistem kemasyarakatan, c) hibriditas gaya hidup, dan d) hibriditas mata pencaharian (2) Diaspora yang menyangkut tokoh Hanafi bukanlah dalam pengertian yang sebenarnya. Dia tidak pernah terusir "secara fisik" dari tanah leluhurnya. Sementara itu, Elisabet Frissart adalah diasporian murni. Baik secara "fisik" maupun secara "mental" dia terusir dan tercerabut dari tanah asalnya dan dari tanah tempat dia lahir. Kata kunci: diaspora, hibriditas

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan ketepatan indikator dalam kisikisisoal, keterwakilan setiap kompetensi dasar dalam soal, kesesuaian antara kisi-kisisoal dan soal, serta capaian daya serap setiap kompetensi dasar. Penelitian ini merupakanpenelitian deskriptif kualitatif-kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kisi-kisi soal, soal,dan capaian daya serap dari soal uji coba I bahasa Indonesia di SMP kabupaten Wonosobotahun 2013. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca dan catat.Hasil penelitianini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) ketepatan indikator dalam kisi-kisi soal termasuk kategoritepat (86,4%) dengan rincian ketepatan indikator pada kategori sangat tepat sebesar 22%,tepat sebesar 68%, cukup tepat sebesar 8%, kurang tepat sebesar 2%, dan tidak tepatsebesar 0%; (2) keterwakilan setiap kompetensi dasar dalam kisi-kisi soal uji coba I bahasaIndonesia Kabupaten Wonosobo dalam kategori sangat terwakili (96,7%); (3) kesesuaianantara kisi-kisi soal dan soal uji coba I bahasa Indonesia Kabupaten Wonosobo tahun2013 termasuk kategori sesuai (86%); dan capaian daya serap untuk seluruh kompetensidasar dalam soal uji coba I bahasa Indonesia Kabupaten Wonosobo tahun 2013 termasukkategori rendah yaitu sebesar 56,89% dengan rincian capaian pada kategori sangat tinggisebesar 0%, tinggi sebesar 14%, sedang sebesar 24%, rendah sebesar 30%, dan sangatrendah sebesar 32%.Kata Kunci: telaah, kisi-kisi soal, soal, daya serap

Abstract

This article is about a study conducted to describe the visualization ofIslamic colors (or nuances) in Layang Mursada Pesisiran, one of the classical textsresulting from the development of coastal literary work.Layang Mursada Pesisiran, the subject of the study, was written (or,rather, copied from the original) in 1879 and published by Badan Pekerja KongresBahasa Jawa, a working body for a congress on the Javanese language. Themanuscript was edited by Bambang Purnomo and transliterated by Suwarni andRatih Retno Hartati in 2001. The data for the study were obtained by repeated textreading. Words, phrases, and sentences in the text containing Islamic colors werewritten down and analyzed descriptively and referentially by referring to verses inthe Al Quran.Results of the study indicate the occurrence of visualization of Islamiccolors in the form of (1) concept of Allah as God with praised character qualities,(2) belief in the Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet Sulaiman, and KhulafaurRasyiidin, (3) concept of heaven and belief in the non-physical substance ofangels, spirits, and devils, (4) acknowledged presence of social figurescharacteristic of Islam who take care of religious matters such as the pangulu,marbotoh, ketib, and modin, (5) concept of the unbeliever, and (6) commandmentto the unbeliever to pray.Keywords: Islamic colors, Islamic concepts
