Abstract

     Artikel ini berkaitan dengan kemampuan menulis karangan argumentasi siswa SMA kelas X di Kabupaten Banyumas. Rumusan masalahnya adalah adakah perbedaan keefektifan penggunaan pendekatan proses dan pendekatan genre dalam pembelajaran menulis karangan argumentasi, tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan keefektifan dalam penggunaan pendekatan proses dan pendekatan genre terhadap kegiatan pembelajaran menulis karangan argumentasi siswa SMA kelas X di Kabupaten Banyumas. Desain ekperimen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rendomized pre-tes-posttest control group design. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampel acak berlapis. Metode pengambilan data yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan menulis karangan argumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji-t dan ANAVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap penggunaan pendekatan proses dan pendekatan genre dalam pembelajaran menulis karangan argumentasi. Pendekatan genre lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan pendekatan proses.Kata Kunci: pendekatan proses, pendekatan genre, karangan argumentasi THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROCESS AND GENRE APPROACH ON ARGUMENTATION WRITING ABILITIES OF THE CLASSX SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS ABSTRACT     This article is concerned with the ability of high school students write essays arguments of class X in the District Banyumas. The formulation of the problem is how the effectiveness of the process approach and genre approach in teaching essay writing argumentation, the goal was to determine differences in the effectiveness of the use of the process approach and genre approach to learning activities argumentation high school students write essays in class X in Banyumas. Experimental design used in this study is rendomized pre-test-posttest control group design. The sampling technique using stratified random sampling techniques. The data collection method by testing the ability to write essays of argumentation. Data analysis technique used t-test and ANOVA. The results showed that there were significant differences on the use of the process approach and genre approach in learning to write essays of argumentation. Abstract

The view that poetry is one means of expressing various ideas, thoughts,and feelings applies on both adult poetry and poetry for children, which isnowadays increasingly written and published in, among others, magazines andnewspapers. Today such poetry is also written by children themselves. A study onsixty-five poems for children sampled from the Kompas daily Sunday editions of2005 has revealed that almost all of the poetry has been written by children, with3.1%, 78.5%, and 9.2% of them being, respectively, kindergarten, elementaryschool, and junior high school children (though another 9.2% of them areunidentifiable).The themes of the poems are quite various and all reflect the world ofchildren revealed through their point of view. However, there are certain recurringthemes: nature and the environment, parents and teachers, and animals, all ofwhich indicate children's closeness to them. Other themes also found are, amongothers, sports and toys, others' good deed, religiosity, money saving, and honesty.Generally the tone is didactic though the child writer means to invite or urge to dosomething. It indicates the children's innocence and directness of mind and way ofthinking. Their teachers at school or their parents at home often tell them directly todo something and they just re-express it in the same manner. In poetic aspects, anumber of the poems seem good enough but a part of the others still do not seem tobe already well processed, especially in terms of word choice.Keywords : children's literature, children's poetry, child writer, themes ofchildren's poetry

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan  untuk mengetahui: (1) keefektifan metode pembelajaran Kooperatif tipe TAI; (2) perbedaan keefektifan metode Kooperatif tipe TAI dan metode konvensional; (3) metode pembelajaran yang lebih efektif antara metode Kooperatif tipe TAI dan metode konvensional dalam pembelajaran membaca pemahaman untuk menemukan gagasan utama. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen semu dengan desain pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Gedangsari Gunungkidul. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIIA dan VIID  yang dipilih secara acak. Analisis data menggunakan teknik uji-t dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05 dan untuk menunjukkan keefektifan metode digunakan uji-t nilai gain score. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) metode Kooperatif tipe TAI efektif (sig.(p) = 0,00<0,05); (2) terdapat perbedaan keefektifan yang signifikan antara metode konvensional dengan metode Kooperatif tipe TAI (sig. (p) = 0,01<0,05); (3) metode Kooperatif tipe TAI lebih efektif dibandingkan metode konvensional dalam pembelajaran membaca pemahaman untuk menemukan gagasan utama tetapi tidak signifikan (sig.(p) = 0,07>0,05).Kata Kunci: Team-Assisted Individualization (TAI), membaca pemahaman, gagasan utama THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COOPERATIVE TEACHING METHOD OF THE TAI TYPE IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION  TO FIND THE MAIN IDEA  ABSTRACTThe study is aimed at finding out: (1) the effectiveness of the Cooperative Method of the TAI type; (2) the differences of the effectiveness of  the Cooperative Method of the TAI type and the conventional method; (3) the more effective teaching method between the Cooperative  Method of the TAI type  and  the conventional method in teaching  reading comprehension to find the main idea. The research was quasi-experimental with the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The research population was grade VII students of SMPN 2 Gedangsari Gunungkidul. A sample of VII-A and VII-D students was established randomly. The data analysis was conducted using the t-test. The score difference was significant at 0.05, and the t-test gain score was used to show the effectiveness of the method. The results of the study show that (1) the Cooperative Method of the TAI type is effective (sig (p) = 0.00<0.05); (2) there is a significant difference between the conventional method and the Cooperative Method of the TAI type (sig (p) 0.01 <0.05); (3) teaching  reading comprehension to find the main idea using  the Cooperative method  of the TAI type is more effective than that using the conventional method but not significant (sig.(p) = 0,07>0,05).Keywords: Team-Assisted Individualization (TAI), reading comprehension, main idea

Abstract

This article is about a study describing several writers' perspectivestoward the phenomenon of polygamy based on some novels of theirs and theideology of feminism serving as the background of the perspectives. The novelsstudied are Fira Basuki's Biru, Abidah Al-Khalieqy's Geni Jora and PerempuanBerkalung Surban, and Dewi Sartika's Dadaisme.The result of the study indicates the following. (1) There are three patternsof polygamy in the novels. The polygamy in Al-Khalieqy's Geni Jora and Sartika'sDadaisme is conducted openly with the first wife's permission, her inability tohave a baby being the cause, and both wives have good mutual relationship. Thepolygamy in Al-Khalieqy's Perempuan Berkalung Surban is also conductedopenly but with the first wife forced to give permission, the husband not living inharmony with the first wife and having a love affair resulting in the other woman'spregnancy being the cause, and the wives do not have good mutual relationship.The polygamy in Fira Basuki's Biru is hidden polygamy, that is, without the firstwife's permission, with her relationship with the second wife not being good andthat with her husband not having been good, either, causing him to commit theadultery. (2) Based on the novels, the writers' perspectives toward polygamy are asfollows. Abidah Al-Khalieqy's views polygamy as an emergency and it can beconducted with some requirements being met, among which are economicalcondition and a sense of justice, which are to be seriously considered. If thehusband cannot fulfil the requirements, disharmonious relationship will occur,resulting in divorce. Fira Basuki tends to reject polygamy, viewing the husbandconcerned as doing some injustice. The possible resulting hate in the first wifetoward her husband and the second wife may result in conflict and divorce. DewiSartika allows polygamy, depicting characters who can love more than one person(and consequently commit adultery). (3) There are two streams of feminismserving as the background of the writers' perspectives: radical feminism, reflectedin the works of Al-Khalieqy and Fira Basuki, and liberal feminism, reflected in thework of Dewi Sartika. Radical feminism views polygamy as a form of maledomination over females that results in family problems. Liberal feminism tendsto allow polygamy as a form of patriarchal domination; those committingpolygamy do not always have problems resulting from it and polygamy can be asolution for the problem of not being able to have a child from the first wife.Keywords: polygamy, female writers, feminism

Abstract

(Title: Social Values that are  Reflected Through the Female Characters of "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell: Sociology of Literature Study). This study aims to find and explain the social values in Trifles as reflected through the female characters in it, through the description of the social situation they face and also to analyze how the social situation influences all decisions and actions taken by those female characters. The results of this study are (1) female characters in Trifles have to face the society that tend to be prejudiced and underestimate the role of women, (2) They do not pay attention to their surroundings, and (3) they use certain appropriateness values to accept or reject others. The situation described above gives an influence on all decisions and actions taken by them, i.e. (1) they decide to take unlawful actions by removing evidence of murder, (2) withdrawing from the community, (3) doing vile deed that is committing murder.Keywords: sociology of literature, social values, play.

Abstract

As a product of media, advertisements in both print and electronic media withtheir hegemony are made to persuade readers or listeners to act as the advertisements wish,namely buying the advertised products. Based on an analysis of mass media, inadvertisements by cellular phone operators, there is a price war as a strategy to attractconsumers. Each cellular phone operator tries to show an image that the company offersthe lowest price. This may influence and deceive consumers as the party that is forced touse the company's service. In practice, an offer with a low price usually needs a conditionand requirement that consumers have not known before. Therefore, it is necessary thatconsumers should be selective and critical in digesting an advertisement made by a cellularphone operator offering a low price.Keywords: advertisement, cellular phone operator, mass media

Abstract

(Title: Development of Teaching Materials By Integrating Listening and Speaking Competency For PBI Students). This study aims to produce teaching material models by integrating listening and speaking competencies. This research is a type of research and development (Research and Development). The research subjects were 5th semester students who had taken the Listening for Academic Purposes and Speaking for Academic Purposes courses. The integration of learning material in the Listening for Academic Purposes (LAP) and Speaking for Academic Purposes (SAP) courses for PBI students in semester 4 is very necessary. The steps that have been carried out in this study have reached the stage of needs analysis and have succeeded in identifying several important things needed in developing teaching materials such as types of texts, activities needed and liked by students, types of media that can be used, reaction patterns and assessments . The learning material in the LAP course is prioritized on providing exposure to prepare students to be able to produce appropriate speeches and expressions in the SAP class. Keyword: bahan ajar, listening, speaking, academic purposes
