Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine diatom species in Unda River, BadungRiver, Lake Beratan, estuarine and marine waters of Padang Galak, that can be used to indicatedeath scene caused by drowning. Waters collected to 50 liters by using plankton net and carriedin a 25 ml glass bottle. The results of the research found that there were 60 species diatom from26 genera, 23 families, 2 orders, and 1 class. Among the 60 species in this research, can beindicate as 12 species are typical species of Unda River, 5 species are typical species of BadungRiver, 1 species is typical of Lake Beratan, 9 species are typical of Padang Galak Estuary, and 19species are typical to Padang Galak Sea. Among the typical species in every research site, thereare one species that has higher number: Fragilaria sp. 1 in Unda River, Gomphonema sp. 3 inBadung River. Cymbella sp. 3 in Lake Beratan, Cyclotella sp., in Padang Galak Estuarine, andCocconeis sp. 2 in Padang Galak Sea.Keywords: forensic, diatom, river, lake, sea

Abstract

This aimed this study were to identify the species and the density of sea urchin at Sanur andSerangan beach. The research was conducted from Desember 2013 – February 2014. Thesamples were collected from area of Sanur beach, Merta Segara beach, Mertasari beach andSerangan beach, by using transect method within 5 m x 5 m. Speciesmens were identified atLaboratory of Ecology and the Laboratory of Animal Taxonomy at Department of Biology,Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Udayana. There 12 species of sea urchin werefound, that are Clypeaster sp., Astropyga radiata, Diadema palmeri, Diadema savignyi,Diadema setosum, Echinothrix calamaris, Echinometra mathaei, Heterocentrotus sp., Maretiaplanulata, Temnopleurus sp., Toxopneustes sp. and Tripneustes gratilla from 6 different family. The highest density of sea urchin are 0,373 individual/m2 was found which were at Seranganbeach, and the lowest density of sea urchin are 0,144 individual/m2 was found at Mertasaribeach. Keywords: Sea urchin species, density

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect red calliandra leaf extract on weight, anatomy andhistology of male mice liver. Treatment was administered orally with varying doses (2, 4, 6mg/ kg). Control grups was given 0,9% NaCl. This study used a completely randomizeddesign (CRD), consisting of 12 groups with three replications. Histological observationsshowed that red calliandra leaf extract significantly affected the damage of male mice liver.Damage level of nucleus pyknotic and fatty degeneration increased in line with the increasingdoses in treatment for 7 and 21 days, as well as the dilation of central venous in treatment for7 days. The damage increase in line with the leght of treatment in the fatty degeneration (dose2 mg/kg bw), nuclues pyknotic (doses 2 and 6 mg/kg bw), infiltration of inflammatory cells(dose 4 mg/kg bw), sinusoid congestion (doses 2, 4 and 6 mg/kg bw), and central venousdilatation (dose 2 and 4 mg/ kg bw). Keywords : Red calliandra, male mice, liver histology

Abstract

Rhodamin B is a dangerous synthetic dyes substances used as a fabric dye in thetextile industry. Biodegradation is one way that is used in the processing of liquid wasteRhodamin B. Biodegradation technique is leveraging the ability of microbial activitiesdegrade or eliminate pollutant compounds. The main objective of this research was toinvestigate the characteristic of bacteria that are capable of living on wastewater containingRhodamin B and the effectiveness of single and microbial consortium isolates to degradeRhodamin B on wastewater. The isolation of the bacteria was done by plating method and theidentification of the bacteria by using a Kit API 20E. Test of bacterial potential of RhodaminB dyes substance carried out in the Microbiology Laboratory, Biology Department, Facultyof Science, Udayana University. It was found in this research that five bacterial isolates wereobtained (Pseudomonas sp., Shigella spp., Stenotrophomonas sp., Pasteurella sp. dan Proteussp.). Pasteurella sp. had the highest percentage degrade effectiveness of 40.55%. Microbialpotential degrade Rhodamin B by Pasteurella sp. dan Proteus sp. results showed significantdifferences (P <0.05) to control.Keyword: bacteria, biodegradation, Rhodamin B

Abstract

This research aims to know the relationship of kinship in 12 cultivars Broccoli grownin Horticultural Nursery at Kembang Merta village Bedugul Bali. Broccoli leaf samples weretaken from Horticultural Nursery at Kembang Merta village Bedugul Bali. The method usedin this research is by utilizing fresh preparations of upside/downside leaf epidermal incisionor Leaf Clearing method, the incision of the preparations and also the observations werecarried out at the Laboratory of Plant Structure and Development Department of Biology,Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Udayana University. The results showed the existenceof variations in epidermal cells, stomata structure, density and density of stomata on the 12cultivars of Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.) with the range index of similarity between68,79% - 92,18% and formed the five groups that have different similarity indices in eachgroup. Keywords: anatomy, broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.), similarity index of stomata

Abstract

Indonesia has many variaties of plant which give a benefit for house, clath, meals, medicine even for beauty treatment. A beauty treatment made from chemical agent causing anegative effect, so searching for an alternative agent for beauty treatment without giving anegative side effect was needed. The goal of has research is to know find species of plants, methods of process also how to process the plants become a herbal beauty treatment agent atPuri Damai which located in Singakerta village, district of ubud, Gianyar region. They takedirect observation, description and identification methods. According to the result of theresearch were found 25 species, 19 suku of plants 3 euphorbiaceae, 2 asteraceae, 2araliaceae, 2 zingiberaceae, pandanaceae, asphodelaceae, poaceae, fabaceae, anonaceae, magnoliaceae, arecaceae, laminaceae, malvaceae, cactaceae, oleaceae, apocynaceae, agavaceae, melastomataceae, rutaceae. Hair vertilizer oil mostly was made from the leaf ofthe plant takes around 56% and for massage oil take the flowers around 53 %. The methodswas taken to produce hair vertilizer oil and ingredients was fried in 1 liter frying oil between6 – 8 hours long in little fire. Direction of use for hair vertilizer oil is rubbing the oil on thecalp and hair before is after washing the hair. The use of massage oil the oli to the body andgive a massage. Keywords : Etnobotany, Beauty treatment, Observation.
