Abstract

Coconut is one of an important plant to fulfil human’s life needed. This study wasconducted to determine the benefits of coconut plant parts. The study was conducted in someareas of Denpasar and Badung from 27 January until 4 February, 2012. The method used in thisstudy is exploratory survey method by using a questionnaire and interviews. The results showedthat the mostly used parts of the plant are fruit part of 53% (35% bungkak water, bungkak meat12.9%, 4.7% shell) root 2.3%, 22 % stems, and leaves as many as 23%. The coconut tree is usedas an upakara (31%), drugs (24%), construction (14%), consumer (13%), crafts (2%), fuel (8%),roofs (2%), broom (2%), and household items (4%).Keywords: Cocos nucifera L. etnobotany, exploration survey

Abstract

This aims of the research was to determine the structure and pollen viability of RangdaCoconut (Cocos nucifera L. “Rangda”) stored at different time and temperatures. Pollen sampleswere collected from Gianyar, Klungkung and Negara. The experiment was conducted at theLaboratorium of Forensic and the Laboratorium of Plant Development and Structure, UdayanaUniversity, from October 2012 to January 2013. Pollen structure was analyzed with acetolysemethod, while pollen viability was analyzed in-vitro. The results showed that the structure of thepollen of “Rangda” coconut was circular, media, monosulcate, Subferoidal-Prolat, Sferoidal.Pollen viability of “Rangda" coconut was low (less than 3%). Pollen stored in the freezer has thebest viability, which continually increased until the 2nd weeks, then declined after that, whiepollen viability stored at room temperature tend to decline up to the fourth weeks. Keywords: structure, viability, pollen, time, storage

Abstract

The research aims to determine the anatomical structure of the leaf stalk fiber Coconut(Cocos nucifera L. "Rangda") on the seedling and parent plant. Sampling was conducted atSanghyang village Melaya district, Regency of Jembrana. Preparations and microscopicobservations made in the laboratory of Plant Development Structure Biology Department,FMIPA Unud. The research was conducted in October 2012 - April 2013. Maceration methodused for preparations sklerenkim fibers and xylem elements. The results showed that theanatomical parent plant and seedling petiole were torque and mostly composed bysclerenchym fibers but in the parent plant more torque than seedling. In the parent plant about81% the sclerenchym cell was torque but in seedling only 13%, with an average number of17 ± 1 torsion of the parent plant and 6 ± 1 in seedling. Keywords: the fiber structure, torque

Abstract

The black orchid (Coelogyne pandurata Lindl.) is an epiphytic orchid spesies that iscurrently endangered. To protect and maintain the genetic resources it is necessary to find theproper way to store seeds in a long time. The purpose this study is to determine the viability ofthe black orchid seeds sowed in organic medium with different storage period. The result showedthat the seeds sown in fresh condition has the highest percentage of growth up to 60%, seedswith storage period of 2 weeks has growth percentage of 20%, while the storage period of 4weeks has growth percentage of 2.5%. The growth phase of sowed seeds in fresh condition andseeds storage in 2 weeks periode is phase 4 (second leaf formed embryo) and seeds storage in 2weeks periode is phase 2 (green embryo). This suggest that the storage condition of black orchidseeds is influence physiology and seed viability. Keywords: Coelogyne pandurata Lindl., seed viability, storage periode

Abstract

Research have been carried out to calculate total colony of fungi, determine fungispecies, and the rate spread of the fungi in rhizosphere a cashew plantations (Anacardiumoccidentale L.) at Sukadana Karangasem and Sendang Buleleng for 4 months (October 2012- January 2013). Samples were taken from two different areas in which five point weresampled. Results data were analyzed qualitatively by identifying the species of fungi that is adescription. The quantitative data was taken to calculate total colony of fungi. The researchfound 11 species of fungi taken from two different locations, namely: Aspergilus flavus, A.niger, A. parasiticus, Botrytis cinera, Cladosporium sphaeospermum, Fusariumsporotrichioides, P. brevicompactum, P. citrinum, P. chrysogenum, Rhizopus stolonifer, andSynchephalastrum racemosum. Total fungal colony in Sukadana Karangasem was : 33.6 x103 - 35 x 103 CFU /g, in Sendang Buleleng 22.6 x 103 – 37.6 x 103 CFU/g. Abundance offungi in Sukadana Karangasem is relatively uniform (0.85) and in Sendang Buleleng belongto cluster (1,03).Keywords: Cashew rhizosphere, abudance of fungal species, Karangasem, Buleleng-Bali

Abstract

The research observed the type of pollen shape, development of microgametophyte, andpollen viability of Cocos nucifera L. “Ancak”, that is the pollen structure Cocos nucifera L. usedpreparation with acetolysis method. Development of microgametophyte, and pollen viabilitywith germinated pollen in vitro used 0,8% of agar media in sugar solution 0%, 50%, and 70%.The result showed that the type of pollen shape Cocos nucifera L. “Ancak”: circular, sulkus, media, Subferoidal, P/E: (1.12-1.18). Development of microgametophyte Cocos nucifera L.“Ancak” the flowers are ripe generally at the level of uninucleate (> 60%) and binukleat (<40%).Male gametes (trinukleat) started on day 2,4. percentage of pollen viability in vitro low average(< 2.5%).Keywords: Pollen structure, microgametophyte, viability test, in vitro
