Abstract

Water supply of irrigation intakes are generally from the river. The system considers the lowest water level of the river on its mechanism. River groove propagation is a development of erosion at some parts and at the same time a development of sedimentation at the other parts of the river bed. This phenomenon is identified as an indication that cause the flood which might endangers the surrounding infrastructures. Analysis by KUN-QARSHOV method on Brantas river groove propagation in Mojokerto areas is acquired. Most progressive vertical meander shifting is at cross section KB63. The shift isas deep as 0.38 metres per year. The second progressive vertical meander shifting is at cross section KB64. The shift is as deep as 0.27 metres per year. The most progressive horizontal meander shifting is at cross section KB64. The horizontal shift moves toward the right cliff at 0.17 metres per year. The second progressive horizontal meander shifting occurs at cross section KB63. The horizontal shift moves toward the right cliff at 0.14 metres per year. The groove propagation could be more dangerous if there is a combination between vertical and horizontal shifts at the same time that might cause severe cliff slides. The failure of the irrigation sytem at Brantas River in Mojokerto areas was due to the water level of the river below the irrigation intake level. Among others are the intakes at Keboan, Ngareskidul, and Gedeg irrigation areas. Another is due to the erosion of river bed at the syphon of Watudakon irrigation area.

Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has attracted ever increasing attentions from construction industry stakeholders around the world including Malaysia. Numerous studies have been conducted in exploring the benefits of BIM and proposing strategies for BIM implementation. However, to convince the industry stakeholders to implement BIM technology is relatively challenging. Tangible evidences are needed to bring up the industry’s acceptability towards the technology. In Malaysia, the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP) has been developed to drive the transformation and development of the construction industry. One of the cases highlighted in the CITP is on the limited adoption of information technology such as BIM. Therefore, currently the Malaysian government is actively engaging with construction industry stakeholders to encourage the BIM implementation. This paper aims to propose a framework of BIM implementation stages in the construction industry of Malaysia. Three case studies have been analysed as a fundamental study to develop the framework. The results show that two of the companies are at the adaptation stage and one of the companies is at the application stage. At this point of time, the results indicate that the companies are more comfortable to experience only some part of the BIM benefits compared to fully utilise the technology. Fundamentally, the companies will only be at the adoption stage once the confidence level towards the technology is increasing and the companies will be categorised in the application stage when the companies are able to perform knowledge transfer related to BIM technology. This implementation stages can be used as an indicator to predict the direction of BIM in Malaysia. Thus, to ensure the successfulness of BIM implementation, there is a need to understand the current stages of company’s BIM implementation and propose the criteria needed for a company to move from one BIM stage to another.

Abstract

Optimization of system capacity electric power transmission systems requires a reliable power flow controller. The power flow controllers must be able to control the level of electrical voltage and active and reactive power flow without reducing the level of stability and security of the transmission system. Latest technology in the control of power flow is a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The entire transmission line parameters are impedance, voltage, and phase angle can be controlled simultaneously by the UPFC. The method used in the conventional algorithms based UPFC is still firmly with logic. These algorithms have difficulties to electric power transmission systems multimachine very dynamic, i.e. systems that are experiencing rapid changes in the electrical load from time to time. Therefore, in this study was developed based on neuro-fuzzy method is applied to the adaptive UPFC for adaptively controlling the power flow in electric power transmission systems multimachine very dynamic. In this study, three phase fault is applied to the multimachine system. The results are taken to be consideration of PI and neuro-fuzzy controllers. The PI and neuro-fuzzy controllers show nearly same results but there is a low overshoot occurred during the fault in the neuro-fuzzy controllers results. According to results that UPFC improves the system performance under the transient and the normal conditions. However, it can control the power flow in the transmission line, effectively.

Abstract

IT Governance is a branch of the corporate governance system focused on information technology (IT) as well as performance and risk management. IT Governance is defined as the processes that ensure the effective and efficient use of IT in enabling an organization to achieve its goal. There are many different frameworks that can be used for managing the delivery of cost-effective IT services. IT managing the delivery of cost-effective IT services does not always give the advantage to the company. There are times when the IT managing the delivery of cost-effective IT services does not provide any benefit, it can cause IT Productivity Paradox. IT Productivity Paradox can be prevented, one is to analyze the processes undertaken with IT. From this analysis we will get the significance of the relationship processes with the IT Goal. The significance will be seen which one significant process and which one are not significant to the IT Goal. If the IT process there are not significant to the IT Goal, the process does not need to be repaired because it has no effect on IT Goal. Existing IT governance frameworks are COBIT, ITIL, ISO 20000, 17799/27001, Six Sigma, etc. The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), initially developed in the UK by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), is gaining traction in the global IT community as a framework for IT governance. ISO 20000-focusing upon IT service management. ISO 17799 / ISO 27001 - focusing upon information. Six Sigma-focusing upon operational performance and defect identification. COBIT - framework for information IT management risks. Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT) provides good practices across a domain and process framework and presents activities in a manageable and logical structure. COBIT’s good practices represent the consensus of experts. They are strongly focused more on control, less on execution. These practices will help optimise IT-enabled investments, ensure service delivery and provide a measure against which to judge when things do go wrong. This research is intend to find out whether Cobit mapping Business Goal to IT Goal appropriate with case study. The result The results using SEM approach shows that the mapping of COBIT is not significant in the case studies of academic administration.

Abstract

The low-cost apartment concept was prescribed by Government to supply residential needs. The persons with disability (PwD), constituting 0.74% of Indonesian in 2000, (Badan Pusat Statistik Indonesia, 2001) also needed the housing provision. In Surabaya, approximately five thousand (5000) PwD were documented in 2010 or 0.1% from total population (Badan Pusat Statistik Kota Surabaya, 2014). Therefore, the accessible low-cost apartment concept was needed for the provision. The 36-sqm-apartment design would cater person with a disability (a wheelchair user) and spouse were designed with five principles of inclusive design of (Tanuwidjaja, Laurens, Sulendra, & Erandaru, 2016). The design was conducted with the participatory design process and several workshops with many users spectrum (wheelchair users, blind and deaf persons). The principles implemented in the design were: User-Centered, Equitable Use but Reasonable Use, Simple and Intuitive Use, Low Physical Effort, and Prohibition of Usage Error. The five principles were implemented inaccessible doors, reachable spaces, and furniture, as well as accessible toilets. All these ensures that the apartment unit to become accessible.

Abstract

In this paper, a study of flexural behavior of cold-formed steel built-up box beam which is commonly used in low rise and residential building is presented. Experimental investigation is conducted to understand about the failure mode and the load capacity of the beam in this study. Numerical analysis by using ABAQUS program was performed in order to verify with experimental result. In addition, influence of thickness, connection spacing, and web height and flange width to thickness ratio, affecting load capacity and buckling behavior of the beam, were discussed. The result shows that the finite element analysis can well predict the flexural strength of the beam and the thickness and connection spacing are the key factors to improve load capacity of the beam.
