Abstract

Utilization of abundant sunlight in tropical climates as daylighting can help to save energy consumption in the flats building. Based on daylight conditions in tropics, there is a need for a dynamic shading to be applied in façade which can be transformed to respond to the environmental change. Folding shutter is a dynamic shading device which can be operated by using folding and rotation motion. This paper aims to discuss the impact of folding shutter on the daylight performance in the context of flats buildings in tropical climates. Simulation using Radiance was conducted to test the sub-variables of folding shutter, including the folding configurations and shutter’s rotation angles on different conditions in tropics. The results showed that folding configurations results in high increase of daylight intensity and should be applied moderately. Meanwhile the shutter’s slats can help to diffuse and reflecting incoming light to the deepest areas of room. A closed configuration with shutter’s angle of 0° and 45° performed the best to face the inconsistent cloud movement in partly cloudy sky. The integration of folding shutter and 60 cm overhang produced the most stable performance which can meet the visual comfort standard in the longest period in tropics.

Abstract

The coastal area has an important role in supporting the community development and economics. The problem occurs when the tidal flooding has almost completely engulfed human activities for instance in human settlements. Tidal flooding has a negative impact on physical, social, economic, and environmental conditions, as an example the coastal settlement in Tanjung Mas Village. Tidal flood, in addition, can cause damage on infrastructure and housing areas, also, it has an impact to the live of communities, households, and individuals simultaneously. This research aims to examine on how to determine the vulnerability of community settlements to the danger of tidal flooding and how to build the adaptation efforts among the community to deal with tidal flooding disaster in order to keep the buildings and public facilities in safety. This research uses interview and observation methods, then, by using qualitative descriptive techniques to gain result underlined in the object research. The result shows that Kampong Tambak Lorok can be divided into 3 zones at high, medium and low. This zoning concept is obtained from flood vulnerability assessment related to the high of tidal flood, inundation duration and its impact. The first zone is represented by a high tidal flood with an average threat duration of inundation ranging from 3 to 5 hours. The depth of the tidal flooding can reach around 70-80 cm from the floor in a house. The second zone is represented by a medium tidal flooding with an average threat duration of inundation ranging from 3 to 4 hours. The depth of the Tidal Flood can reach around 50-60 cm from the floor. The third zone is a low tidal flooding with an average threat of inundation ranging from 0 to 1 hour. The problem of settlements on monetary and non-monetary factors lies in the economic capacity of the community which is classified as very low, affecting the value of expenditure for settlement needs. This has an impact on the response of the community in dealing with tidal flooding. Adaptation to settlements by elevating the level of floor in the house, changing the position of electricity, elevating the height of the house, making dykes on the front of the house and suctioning the flood by pump.

Abstract

The SAVGS as active low bandwidth retrofitted in the double-wishbone arrangement is studied. In this study, two configurations of arm linkages and variations of single-link are investigated. A linear equivalent model of the quarter car is presented based on energy conservation principles. The estimated results captured that the spring stiffness and damping coefficients of the equivalent model behave smaller when lengthening the lower arm geometry. On the other hand, the spring stiffness, damping coefficients, and linear actuator speed of the equivalent model increase when lengthening the single-link.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities run given by cigarette industrial companies in Indonesia. Although CSR activity is a form of responsibilities which every company has to do, there are many rules and regulation which limits the scope in cigarette industrial companies can act in. There are four subjects on this research: receiving end of the CSR activity, big three cigarette industry in Indonesia (Sampoerna, Gudang Garam, Djarum), union of cigarette industry that called GAPPRI, people who near with cigarettes. This research uses a qualitative research and interpretivism paradigm in which it focuses on revealing stakeholders point of view on activities that refers to rules and regulations, CSR principles, and strategies which cigarette industrial companies use for CSR activities. There are a lot of perspective in public about CSR activities from cigarette industrial: it’s just a campaign for promote cigarette to children, it’s an activities that built to “pretend” they’re care with others but behind that cigarette industry which causes the problems. Besides every issues, this research found that social responsibility from cigarette industry are pure for serves public, very transparency for every activities, there are no cigarette’s brand, and not looking for benefit.

Abstract

Flat design has evolved and taken many shapes and forms. Most of the arrangements are arranged in a double-load layout where the units are positioned face to face along the corridor. Another type is two single-loaded flats that are configured to face the courtyard. Building façade also varies from those with shaded surfaces to those with minimum sun protection. Modification in design clearly has an impact on the thermal performance of the buildings. The aim of the study is to investigate the facade configuration on the thermal performance of the building. This study uses simulation software, namely, Design Builder, to predict the thermal performance of the buildings. Several variants of window areas, sun shading, balconies are arranged to explore their effects on thermal performance. Flat with yard selected as a reference model. The results showed that the smaller the window area and the greater coverage given to the window with a shading device, combined with the balcony, can provide a decrease in air temperature up to 0.57 ⁰C, with a reduction in cooling degree hours percentage of 36.97% comparing to the reference model.

Abstract

This study aims To measure the level of technology readiness level (TRL) and to assess user acceptance to use the transportation management system software utilizing technology acceptance model (TAM) approach. Technology acceptance model (TAM) is used to describe the three components, i.e., perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and behavioral intention to use . To ensure that these 3 components are important factors of TAM, authors utilized factor analysis method, whereas t-test calculations were carried out to find out the relationships between components. The results show that the TRL of transportation management system software readiness is 9 which means that it is ready to be used widely in the company. The factor analysis shows that TAM is influenced by the three components, which is able to explain about 66.8% of variations. In the meantime the t test shows that all hypotheses are accepted, so there are significant relationships between components analyzed. To summarize, the authors conclude that the company can benefit the usefulness and ease of use of the transportation management system software developed, so that the behavioral intention to use and the utilization of this technological innovation can be optimized.

Abstract

The support of the Indonesian government in encouraging the achievement of renewable energy targets is to impose a Feed in Tariff (FiT) rule as a benchmark purchase price through the State Electricity Provider (PLN). The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2013 determined that, the FiT for the Aceh region was $ 17 cents, where the highest FiT in Indonesia could reach $ 30 cents. In 2017 a new regulation was issued, in which FiT was set at 85% of regional production costs (BPP). In fact, currently BPP available on Weh Island reach more than Rp. 2,500 / kWh, with an average selling price to the community of Rp. 900, - / kWh. This BPP is more expensive than the price setting by the Government in 2017 of Rp 1,733 / kWh. In measuring the FiT's effectiveness, the evaluation solved based on economic valuation. Simulations were carried out for the capacity of 1 and 5 MW solar farms using 2 different panel components by comparing the prices of FiT BPP determined by the government and BPP in actual conditions. The results showed that, simulations with a capacity of 1 MW, using 85% of the government's BPP, were ineffective and not feasible based on economic calculations. whereas with FiT based on actual BPP, the profit to be achieved is about 42-45% / kwh with return-on-investment capital in the 10th year. The simulation with 5 MW capacity shows an effective and feasible profit if it use the actual BPP condition of the FiT with an effective profit value around 49-56% / kwh.
