Abstract

The operation of computer program for acoustic simulation is an alternative for acoustic analysis method which is fund, time, and energy saving. ECOTECT v.5.20 is one of the computational building performance simulation integrated program with fully 3D, that is able to simulate and analyze acoustic performance of an auditorium. Accordingly it can be used as a program to design the position and area of absorption surface. With consideration to simulation activities, a computer program that makes a model of a real environment always faces the problem of simplifying a model. This problem definitely will affect the precision between the field assessment result and the parameter simulation result of a room acoustic impulse response. Verification of simulation result on the field assessment result has to be done in order to show the computer program validation to be used as a simulation tool for the next research. The simulation result shows that the Reverberation Time (RT) computation is the most equal to the field measurement result with

Abstract

A performance can either be enjoyed or not depending on the acoustic system of the room. The quality of the acoustic system can be measured based on an objective parameter that includes background noise, sound pressure level distribution and reveberation time. The measuring result in a case study shows that an auditorium that has problems relating to background noise level has to consider its ventilation system to avoid high background noise levels. It is important to consider the position of outdoor condensers, ducting joints and openings because the resulted low sound frequency can truly be disturbing during performances, especially to the audiences. Observations drawn on the acoustical performance show that some factors in interior design have to be considered such as room shape and dimension, finishing material and its arrangement in interior elements, to avoid uneven sound distribution and reveberation time that exceeding the standard criteria multifungsional auditoriums.

Abstract

Abstract

Flat design has evolved and taken many shapes and forms. Most of the arrangements are arranged in a double-load layout where the units are positioned face to face along the corridor. Another type is two single-loaded flats that are configured to face the courtyard. Building façade also varies from those with shaded surfaces to those with minimum sun protection. Modification in design clearly has an impact on the thermal performance of the buildings. The aim of the study is to investigate the facade configuration on the thermal performance of the building. This study uses simulation software, namely, Design Builder, to predict the thermal performance of the buildings. Several variants of window areas, sun shading, balconies are arranged to explore their effects on thermal performance. Flat with yard selected as a reference model. The results showed that the smaller the window area and the greater coverage given to the window with a shading device, combined with the balcony, can provide a decrease in air temperature up to 0.57 ⁰C, with a reduction in cooling degree hours percentage of 36.97% comparing to the reference model.

Abstract

Lack of education and training facilities for youth people who are in accordance with the visual learner's learning system makes one aspect of the lack of interest of youth in developing and increasing their productivity. Therefore, this research is conducted to provide an architectural concept that can adapt to the visual learner's learning system for youth. The design concept of the design uses a multisensory theory approach to create attention, sensation and memory into the visual learner learning system for youth. In addition, the direct analogy approach to visual functions becomes one of the design strategies to give attention especially youth in better understanding the stages to be carried out, namely the professionalism stage. Architectural factors that influence the productivity of youth are the shape, scale, color, and materials used in rooms and buildings. This was obtained by means of observation and participatory questionnaires with youth of productive age. Besides the professionalism factors that can assess the productivity of youth are knowledge, skills, and attitude. This was obtained by the questionnaire method with the HRD manager. The method used in the idea uses the concept base framework design method. To present a moment in the design framework, it is necessary to have a research method in it, namely participatory qualitative methods, literature observation and environmental mapping on selected land. The moment presented will limit the exploration of elements that have a role in increasing visual perception in youth’s productivity. Moment will evaluate architectural factors that can be adapted to existing environmental conditions, so as to create the perfect concept in increasing the productivity of youth.

Abstract

Rumah susun (walk up flat) are one of the buildings that rely on natural ventilation. However, the application of natural ventilation in rumah susun (walk up flat) in urban areas is influenced by tropical climate problems such as high temperatures and low wind speeds. The design of the openings in the facade has not been able to distribute air into rooms properly. In addition, the layout design makes single-sided natural ventilation the only strategy possible for double loaded corridor type flat. This study aimed to determine the effect of a combination of pivot window designs and wing walls in directing and distribute air into room. The study was conducted in two stages, that was field measurements and experimental with Computational Fluids Dynamics simulations. Simulations were conducted on a combination designs of wing walls and pivot window with 45o and 90o opening angles to determine their effects on the distribution and indoor air velocity. The combination design of wing walls and pivot window created a pressure difference so that it could increase indoor air velocity under both oblique and parallel to the opening. In the direction of the wind that was not oriented to the openings, the combination of wing walls and vertical pivot windows with 90o opening angles increased indoor air velocity up to five times in the corner room. While the 45o opening angle increased the indoor air velocity up to seven times than base case condition in a middle room.

Abstract

House presents special problems for design in relation to climate as it accommodates variety of uses over 24-hour period. It is widely known in the tropical countries that traditional houses are more sensitive to the prevailing climate and able to provide comfortable internal environment for the occupants. Tambi as one of traditional houses in upland Central Celebes Indonesia is believed to be thermally comfortable, yet there still no empirical evidence to approve it. Present study conducted empirical studies on typical traditional Tambi houses to evaluate their thermal performance. External and internal climatic conditions were measured in each house and were analysed. Results of the study showed that typical traditional Tambi house are not able to maintain the internal temperature within the comfort range for a preiod of 24- hours. Thermal quality of the house, however, were improving as indicated by internal temperatures which were more satisfactory than the external temperatures.

Abstract

Facade is a main component to reduce noise impact from the outdoor area. A room is considered as a cozy place, if the condition is set with Noise Criteria (NC) of 30-35 dB (A). The standards of room comfort should be applied in each area, one of them is Hotel Sahid Surabaya building located close to the railway. Acoustic insulation is certainly necessary and applied in some elements of the facade building. A way to improve the comfort in the building is with selection of materials that will be applied to the interior wall. In addition there is reference such as the use of diffuser on the exterior wall. This research is about the increasing of acoustic insulation on the hotel room facade with case study of Sahid Hotel Surabaya by measuring level of acoustic insulation on the inner wall and outer wall in one of the hotel room. The research study is focused on the noise impacts caused by airborne sound. This research use quasi experiment. The research objectives of this paper are to inform the wall insulation material in buildings and as a reference of the use exterior wall diffuser which are suitable for outdoor area. According to the earlier research, the use of a diffuser on the exterior facade is able to reduce noise until 30-35%. As for the results of an alternative design, the use of insulation material in the form of fibers with fiber type-800 on the inner wall has produced good insulation levels. This study is expected as a reference for designing especially buildings located close to the rail to support the acoustic comfort.
