Abstract

Through the experimental work on dry end milling of an aeronautical material Ti-6242S, the extended Taylor models for volume of material removal (Q.Vc 2.2- .fz 1.98.aa 1.96=3.318x103) and tool life (T.Vc 3.3.fz 2.97.aa 2.80- =1.531x106) are resulted for characterizing the performance of the off-centre ball end milling alloyed carbide tool (W-(Ti/Ta/Nb)C-Co). Further analysis on the models result the optimum cutting conditions (Vc 88 m/min at fz 0.20 mm/tooth, Vc 113.5 m/min at fz 0.15 mm/tooth, and Vc 163 m/min at fz 0.10 mm/tooth) as the best compromise among cutting speed (Vc), material removal rate (MRR=Q/T) (cm3 /min) and T (min). Moreover, it can be interpreted that the tool failure mode, tool wear mechanism and the behaviour of tool performance are changing at the optimum cutting conditions given by the models that plot in a chart of MRR-T-Vc. By utilizing the FEM simulation, the chip morphology, contact length at the tool-chip interface and the tribological aspects (temperature, pressure) in machining at the optimum cutting conditions can be evaluated. The results of simulation support the interpretation of experimental results.

Abstract

Membrane technology is one of the alternative solutions to overcome industrial wastewater treatment developed nowadays. The addition of PAC (Powdered Activated Carbon) in the activated sludge using Submerged Membrane Adsorption Hybrid Bioreactor (SMAHBR) is expected to increase the organic material removal. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of submerged membrane bioreactor and activated carbon adsorption capacity of organic materials in wastewater. This study used SIER (Surabaya Industrial Estate Rungkut – Surabaya, Indonesia) waste as activated sludge operated at Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid (MLSS) concentrations of 8000 and 15000 mg/l, and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentrations of 1500, 2500 mg/l, Sludge Retention Time (SRT) of 10;20; and 30 days and activated carbon variables of 0%; 2.5%; 5%; 7.5%; 10%. The results showed that the fouling potential occurred at high MLSS where the COD removal occurred at PAC addition of 10% reaching 91.86%. High Soluble Microbial Product (SMP) accumulation (± 10 mg/l) occurred in short SRT and high MLSS concentration. PAC addition resulted in decreased microorganisms in the reactor and better effluent of SMAHBR, as a result, the performance of the submerged membrane bioreactor would be restored.

Abstract

Recent development in the security world, video surveillance system has been used widely to protect the most valuable properties or restricted areas in the world. However, the old monitoring system usually only watch the Region of Interest (ROI) without any embedded systems that can trigger automatically the alarm when there are some suspected things happen. By using Virtual Tripwire, video surveillance system can protect safely and effectively the restricted area such as seaport, banking, jail, warehouse, automatic teller machine etc. Virtual tripwire is an algorithm to control the value of some certain pixels in fix position. Virtual tripwire is made of several points which make a rectangle in a captured frame. For the first time, system will take automatically one frame as reference by calculating each point in that rectangle and save them in some arrays. The second step is that in every second system will evaluate all points in the same position to measure weather there are some differences or not. These differences will trigger the alarm automatically. Virtual Tripwire is like a virtual border in the form of rectangle that can avoid everything to pass in a frame grabbed by producing sign.

Abstract

This paper is dealing with the engineering design of a gang drilling machine with jig & fixtures to make a prototype machine. This effort has been done in order to solve the problem which aroused in small business enterprises producing birdcages. The problem was how to minimize the production time in making a lot of holes that have same distance and straightness. Hopefully, the prototype machine can help the small business enterprises to increase their production rate. The design engineering process has been carried out by variant approximation on dowel pin modular fixtures in order to simplify fixtures design. CAD CAM software has also been used as fixtures synthesized method including geometric analysis and three dimensional fixtures assembling. The resulting prototype machine can be well operated and based on the running test, it can be concluded that the greater the motor rotation the greater the power needed. As for teak wood, at 250 rpm motor rotation the power needed is 26.5 watt, and at 400 rpm the motor needs power of 43.6 watt while at 600 rpm the motor needs power of 600 watt. The power consumption is also depends on the type of material, the better the mechanical properties of the materials, the higher the power consumption. For cast iron, the 400 rpm motor rotation needs power as high as 569.7 watt. This prototype of gang drilling machine needs power of 350 watt to make five holes on teak wood while ordinary drilling machine needs total power of 1350 watt.

Abstract

Disposal of either industrial or nonindustrial wastewater into a river has a potential to cause river pollution. Because each load of wastewater discharged into a river contains physical, chemical, and biological parameters that determine water quality, so that it can affect the dissolved oxygen concentration in a river. Therefore the conducted research was aimed to determine the pattern of pollutant dispersion in Surabaya River within the section that is closed to the Karang Pilang Monitoring Station - Surabaya. Parameter used in this research was Total Suspended Solids (TSS). The method used was the finite volume method with Quadratic Upwind Interpolation Convective Kinematics (QUICK) scheme by means of developing models of dispersion water pollutants in a river. The governing equation was controlled by the laws of mass conservation, momentum conservation, and pollution transport equation. Further, these equations were solved using numerical calculation and followed by numerical simulation. From the numerical simulation results, it can be concluded that the magnitude of pollutant dispersion is determined by the initial discharged TSS concentrations into the river, however the longitudinal direction is more dominantly influenced than in lateral directions.

Abstract

Modified Poschl Teller potential is a potential model used to describe behavior of inter moleculer forces. The spectrum energy and wave function of the particle affection in modified Poschl Teller potential are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation, using hypergeometric equation and supersymmetric method. The energy spectrum and wave function are obtained from hypergeometric equation, which is constructed from Schrodinger equation through variable substitution. The energy spectrum and wave function are obtained using raising and lowering supersymmetric operator and applying shape invariance property. The solution of those equation of the energy spectrum and wave function obtained using these two methods are exact solution. Further, the wave function and density probability are visualized using computer simulation.

Abstract

In this paper, a dynamic model of the container crane which represents simultaneous traversing and hoisting motions is discussed. The model is derived using Lagrangian modeling techniques. The problem is to minimize the transfer time of a container, where the optimal trajectory should satisfy the specified initial and terminal conditions and some constraints. The optimal control problem is transformed into sequence of nonlinear constrained optimization problems by discretising of the state and/or control variables. Numerical examples are provided, including the case where there is a singular-arc on control.

Abstract

Segmentation is the first step in osteoarthritis classification. Manual selection is time-consuming, tedious, and expensive. The system is designed to help medical doctors to determine the region of interest of visual characteristics found in knee Osteoarthritis (OA). We propose a fully automatic method without human interaction to segment Junction Space Area (JSA) for OA classification on impaired x-ray image. In this proposed system, right and left knee detection is performed using using Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and template macthing. The row sum graph and moment methods are used to segment the junction space area of knee. Overall we evaluated 98 kneess of patients. Experimental results demonstrate an accuracy of the system of up to 100% for detection of both left and right knee and for junction space detection an accuracy 84.38% for the right knee and 85.42% for the left. The second experiment using gabor filter with parameter α=8, θ=0, Ψ=[0 Π/2], γ=0,8 and N=8 and row sum graph give an accuracy 92.63% for the right knee and 87.37% for the left. And the average time needs to process is 65.79 second. For obvious reasons we chose the results of the fourth to segment junction area in both right and the left knee.
