Abstract

Experiments to evalueate the hydrolysis of crude fiber in coconut cake meal (CCM) by sheep rumen liquor enzymes for basic material fish diet. In Experiment I, the sheep rumen liquor enzymes were added into the CCM at concentration of either 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, or 125 ml/kg of CCM, and incubated for the period of 0, 12, and 24 hours, respectively. The result showed that sheep rumen liquor enzymes could effectively reduced the fiber content of CCM, while its glucose concentration increased. It was found that the application of sheep rumen liquor enzymes at a dose of 125 ml in 1 kg CCM at a period of 24 hours was the most effective treatment to reduce the crude fiber content in CCM. The crude fiber content in this treatment decreased from 13.76% to 6.98%. Keywords: coconut cake meal, sheep rumen liquor, and crude fiber

Abstract

ABSTRACT            Water is an important environmental component for life. Heavy metal water pollution comes from many industries. Heavy Metals Copper (Cu) is one of several other heavy metals that are harmful to living things. One way to anticipate the increased pollution of heavy metals Copper (Cu) in waters is bioremediation using microalgae. This study aims to determine the ability of Spirulina plantesis in absorbing heavy metals Copper (Cu) and to determine the influence of heavy metal Copper (Cu) on the growth of Spirulina platensis. This study used an experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (RAL) consisting of four treatments and five replicates, namely A (S. platensis 0 ppm), B (S. platensis 1 ppm), C (S. platensis 3 ppm), D (S. Platensis 5 ppm). The results showed that Spirulina platensis was able to absorb heavy metal of Copper (Cu) so that it can be used as a heavy metal bioremediation agent. On treatment B (1 ppm) absorption of 87,719%, C (3 ppm) equal to 97,886% and D (5ppm) equal to 95,872 % Growth with the addition of Cu affects Spirulina platensis growthKeywords: Bioremediation, Spirulina platensis, Copper, Growth

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to know the best salinity of eggs hatching period, the hatching percentage, the hatching rate, the percentage of normal larva and survival rate of baung fish larva (Hemibagrus nemurus Blkr.) until it 2 days age.   This research was conducted at Balai Benih Ikan of Gandus sub-district, Palembang, South Sumatra Province in February 2008. This research used the Complete Random Design with four different salinity treatments as like S0 (control), S1 (2 ppt), S2 (4 ppt), and S3 (6 ppt) by each three replications. Parameter observed the hatching period, the hatching percentage, the hatching rate, the percentage of normal larva, the survival rate of larva 2 days age, and  water quality. This result of the research showed that the salinity influenced evidently on the hatching capability of Baung Fish Eggs. The salinity 6 ppt had fastest time for the hatching period with of hatching time was 21.73 hours then hatch entirely after 29 hours. The best salinity for the hatching percentage (85,33%) and the hatching rate  (21.37 fish per hour) was 2 ppt. The control had the highest value (95.05%) for the percentage of normal larva. The salinity of 2 ppt had the highest value (82.59%) for the life of larva on age of 2 days. This measure of water quality is temperature (27.5 oC-28 oC), pH (7.00-7.12), DO (6.0-6.5 mg.L-1), and NH3 (0.05-0.09 mg.L-1).   Keywords: Hemibargus nemurus, salinity, egg hatching percentage
